    The day I watched this was actually hours after I felt God in my life for the first time, I had been going through a bad depression for months I had been seeking help medically but it wasn't helping. I started reading the Bible and seeking help from God I realized I couldn't do it. I had always thought Walk by faith not by sight was a very important part of my life I had struggled a lot in my life and I always kept going in my faith in something rather than what I could see. I went to bed one night and when I woke up it was like a fire I had never felt was burning in me. I love I can not describe, it was so powerful I cried. I realized God answered my prayers. Later that day I was on Netflix scrolling through and I went over this movie two or three times, I don't normally watch Netflix so it has to be interesting.. Ended up saying "let me watch this". I remember hearing that line of scripture and realized God was speaking to me in the Holy Spirit. I skipped over that movie multiple times and felt the need to watch it. I immediately declared Jesus Christ as my lord and savior. Now three years later I work in ministry and have completely changed my life.
    Best movie I've ever watched ;)

    As a man of faith, a Christian, this is one of my favorite films, especially in the post-apocalyptic genre. Most films would go for the usual zombie outbreak setting. This strived to do something different, and, to me, it succeeded quite well. One of the best fight scenes to this day, too, having fights that last long enough with enemies that actually attack all at once.

    I’ve always liked to think that the story of Eli is one that would be placed within future iterations of the Bible of that world. A blind prophet, crossing a desert wasteland with the sole purpose of preserving the word of his god. I feel like that’s a story that would fit quite nicely in the Bible.
    Edit: Amazing how even talking about this sort of thing seems to bring out the angriest people on the internet.

    I had totally missed that the book was placed in between the religious texts! I love how, as you said, the movie exposes the virtues and flaws Christianity and if I dare, faith in general, in hopes to give a balanced assestment. Specially for people in the most in the post-apocalypse one could argue that the world was either in the most dire need of a message of salvation and the idea of a better tomorrow through faith; or at their most vulnerable to be manipulated through the text by corrupt, power hungry and brain washing tyrants trying to capitalize in the people's desperation. I for one found myself asking myself what would be the effects of any widespread religion in that world, undependently of the intentions of the person carrying the main message may be benevolent, for a world in such a desperate need of hope. Amazing movie and thanks for the review!

    He was "told" not to let anyone touch the book. Notice the moment he does let some one else touch it. A bullet finally hits him... With lightning as it happens.... Like many figures in the bible, he decides not to trust and it cost him

So I grew up without a dad most of my life, but honestly, I’d rather have an absent father then one who constantly tests my faith in him. He made us right? We didn’t ask him to bring us into this realm? So how messed up is it that he hold us to such a high standard? All the while, we are told not to tempt the lord. What about the story of job? God and Satan made a bet to see if job would lose his mind or remain faithful while they both took turns torturing this poor man. A man who never questioned god in the place? Sounds like the plot of The Dark Knight.

    I love the idea that he was blind because it makes him more badass. That being said I have a few questions, how was he able to shoot the cat, and the bird out of the sky? Also how was he able to shoot all the bad guys and fight them. Example of this would be when he uses the Barretta to shoot like 3 dudes off the roof.

    • @garrettadams2851
      @garrettadams2851 Рік тому +8

      I know I’m only like a year late but figured I’d chime in.
      He’s able to use echolocation to “see” where things are. He doesn’t shoot the cat until it meows first. He doesn’t shoot the snipers off the roof until they shoot first (their gunshots echo off the buildings and he’s able to tell where they are that way).
      This is also why he randomly clicks throughout the movie, jingles his necklace when Solara’s mom asks where he’s at, etc.
      In the fight scene towards the beginning, he backs up underneath the bridge so he can use echolocation to “see” where the bad guys are. The echo of the chainsaw bounces off the walls, revealing where they are to him. This is why he saves the chainsaw guy for last.
      Also the reason why his machete has holes in it is so it can whistle through the air, thus causing noise and helping him “see” where his attackers are.

    • @My10thAccount
      @My10thAccount 5 місяців тому +1

      The answer is simple and it’s said plainly in the movie. He walks by faith, not sight. As in he’s not the doing the things he’s doing on his own, he’s merely surrendering himself and allowing his body to act as a conduit for the will of god. You could say that for all intents and purposes it’s god or one of his angels pulling the trigger and swinging the blade.
      What’s happening in the movie is a very literal interpretation of a core Christian principle (I.E. surrendering of the self for the greater glory of god) and it leads to some exceptional scenes in the film.

      If you rewatch the movie after finding out he's blind, you see subtle hints of it throughout the movie. Like feeling around for things, reacting to sounds, enhanced smell.
      Also being blind wouldn't be a reason to not wear shades. Blind doesn't equal black nothingness vision. The sun would still burn his eyes if he didnt wear them.

      The thing is the movie tells you with the way he moves and processes smell and noise that he was blind prior to the apocalypse hints why he can read braille he was given sight for his journey but kept the mannerisms of a blind person cause sight was new to him and when he dies at the end his eyes get cloudy because his job is done and he no longer needs sight

    Love the video. It's so interesting that the only "religious wars" we are familiar with are the crusades. I wonder to myself is this because of the dominance of western historical preservation? I only hear about religious wars in European influenced spaces. Also love the outro music!

    • @birchaII
      @birchaII 2 роки тому +6

      The Islamic wars into Europe predate the crusades and are rather forgotten as they aren't being taught or really even talked about. They occurred over a much longer period of time, in much more countries, with much more battles and slaves taken. I think Spain alone had over 200 battles occur within its borders. It's something that should be mentioned when people talk about great religious wars of the past.

    • @Player-re9mo

      It's quite funny that the crusades are first to be mentioned in a discussion about religious wars, yet the Islamic wars, which preceded the crusades and are still carried out to this day, aren't mentioned at all. I suspect some bias is at play.

    This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I think it's very underrated. I'm not a religious man by any stretch of the imagination, but Book of Eli hits the nail on the head when it comes to theocratic conflict. Both Eli and Carnegie are right in their outlook of The Bible, but ultimately the Curator is the one who has it. The Bible is a tool, and how it's used depends on the person weilding it. It can be a beacon of hope and guide to moralistic good, or it can be a weapon, used to cut down anyone who dissents and strays out of line. But ultimately it's information that shouldn't be neglected or lost.
