    What I noticed between the 2 is, AMD runs excellent for gaming, video and audio editing, ect. Intel runs better off internet streaming, office software, and other applications away from gaming. AMD more dedicated for games and focuses on all the applications for gaming leaving out the home pc applications . Intel does the same thing but vice versa away from gaming applications so PC runs faster for home pc applications .

    Thanks for the great overview. Here's one thing that makes me lean toward Intel: the excellent media encoders/decoders built into their integreted GPU's, which includes Quicksynch. My understanding is that these give a distinct advantage in video editing when your footage is shot in the codecs typically used on modern mirrorless cameras, such as h.264 and h.265. The AMD CPU's do not seem to be nearly as good in terms of their media encoders and decoders. Do you have an opinion on this? Thanks.

    I haven't built a budget build in over a decade. I was going to build one but I'm afraid. I'm not afraid of current technologies or anything of that nature but I am afraid of the terrible reports on the 490, 550, x700 something boards and the USB, audio, SATA issues with AMD and Intel CPU's. There seems to be approximately a 30% of boards having problems (even with BIOS updates and sometimes making worse) and then issues with the CPU's. I don't remember having this much trouble finding reliable parts for my last two builds but this time around I feel like I would just be shoving my money in the garbage disposal then punching myself in the face repeatedly.

    As long as AMD provides long term support of their AM4 and AM5 platforms, I will be loyal. The cost savings I have realized since 2018 on my two (2) AM4 systems when making upgrades has been considerable. Add the fact that AMD has some incredible performance with lower power requirements is just icing on the cake. Throw in X3D technology and SAM support and it is hard to support Intel. I do not see Intel competing in the desktop market much longer. They have spread themselved too thin and will have to direct resources into laptops to stop the bleeding. Same with the server market, which AMD is well positioned to continue consuming more market share in this area. Intel is in trouble and the rats will be abandoning this sinking ship, further hurting its ability to compete in the future.

    Clearly amd. way cheaper. better for gaming and productivity. Longer motherboard support. Intel relying on increasing frequency rather than optimization and other techniques. Even intel fan boys know this, but turns blind eye since they are a fan boy. I've used intel CPUs from the past, and I loved them. Sadly, they got stucked with their 14 nm node for a long time. I know 14 nm intel and 7 nm amd is different, but the power consumption says what it says. I am not a dog for either of the product, and I always choose which is better.

I just updated my dad's first gen i7 quad two weeks ago solely to get 4k HDR support, it was still pretty fast running on Manjaro, but for that he no longer needed a tower and I switched him to a simple Beelink. I also built a few other Intel rigs for other people that all still work fine today. First gen i7's/i5's still do seem fairly fast running on SSD's and a linux OS.     I don't know about 'recent years';
    Back in the 1990's when the first pentiums were released the AMD processors were notably faster at times than the intel counterparts. Intel would release a pentium and AMD would follow a few months later with a faster CPU. I was working in a computer shop and I'd swap CPU every few months. Typically when going from an intel to an AMD I'd get a more performant CPU for 80% of the price (imagine upgrading your computer ànd getting money back - those were the days. intel was in dire straits in those days, they got on top again and it's been back and forth for 30+ years.

    Most of the work is done by the GPU and even that doesn't need to be pegged to 100% usage all the time, it runs at about 65 degree Celsius when it's being used at 100%.
    I'm very happy with my new system, I have no regrets getting the 3900X CPU and it does everything I need it to do and more, I still have my old pc which is now just over a decade old and that one does pretty much everything except for the latest new games that's not possible anymore but Shadow of the Tomb Raider can still be played if I turn down the graphics a bit.
    If it wasn't for the latest new games that I really wanted to play I wouldn't have bought this new computer, I would have used the old one until it didn't want to startup anymore for some hardware related reason.

    I do a lot of self-taped videos and photos for my acting, singing, etc/., in addition to schoolwork for my real job as a teacher. I need to purchase a new laptop, and desktop which is best? I love my all-in-one desktop which does not have system requirements for Microsoft Windows 11. Hard Drives do not have enough space on either. My laptop is over six years old! HELP!

      Not sure what type of desktop you have currently.
      But maybe you cans still make it work if it has an i5 or i7 Intel chip.
      You did mention you have a hard drive, soo the first step I would doo is swap the hard drive out for a ssd, or nvme drive if your current system has a spot for it, if not then just upgrade to a ssd.
      SSDs, are way faster than a hard drive, hard drives are very slow and I wouldn't recommend them. Nvme drives are even faster than a ssd.

      Intel all the way for video encoding, Intel has higher quality encoding, Gamers Nexus switched their video editing rig to Intel for that reason. Intel for your desktop if that's your primary video editing rig, and AMD would likely be better for your laptop given the power efficiency if you run on the battery a lot. With both you want to make sure you're running on good nvme drives for speed, especially working with larger files associated with recordings.

      @@kieranlee9610 I went with 13900k plus a much bigger 55" 4k display and my electric bill dropped 19%. Computer is on 24/7 as well, running bots, NAS, and plex server. I'm not having heat issues either, I just did as everyone out there suggested using a Chinese mounting bracket and really good TIM (Conductonaut). The power consumption argument is stupid, if it's an issue they're better off updating their house because all these new computer components use far less power compared to a few years ago. Update insulation/windows, switch to a tankless water heater, check door seals, etc. All those things will save far more money than the difference a processor will ever make.

  • @thetechrealist
    @thetechrealist Рік тому +11

    People say that going AMD will future proof your investment but, tbh, Intel has it right with updating motherboards every 2 years.
    There's no such thing as future proofing guys. (Not in the tech industry)
    Get the best you can afford right now so you can have more money to spend later, not the other way around, no matter how many times some content creators tell you....
    So, in conclusion, I would go for an Intel i5 13600k for gaming and get cheaper ddr4 at 3200 to 3600 MHz at CL16 or lower.
    Or, if you have already have a Ryzen motherboard, go with a Ryzen 5800x3d.

    • @boxlid214
      @boxlid214 Рік тому +1

      The future proofing is even more nullified, everyone thought Z790 is end of the line with 13th gen, although a leaked timetable of Intel showed that 15th gen or so will contain Z790 releases for desktop. I wouldn't worry about the PCIE thing either, you only need one 5.0 slot for a card, as the 5.0 m.2's aren't much better besides for small random writes. You can get pretty much identical performance just running two cheaper 980 pros or similar in raid 0, and also not deal with the goofy heatsink or heat issues with 5.0 m.2's. All these processors are plenty of power for 5yrs, there won't be much of a point upgrading them sooner.

    • @boxlid214
      @boxlid214 Рік тому

      13900k has 8 P-cores, not 6, but yeah I like Intel's approach more. AMD seems to be in trouble, more than they're letting us on, because they're imitating Intel's design going forward with P and E cores lol. First leaked info about Intel's future releases was leaked and they seem to be making huge gains in efficiency, same P and E core setup. AMD might have some issues since they're switching over to Intel's approach, that's the risk with AM5 that nobody's talking about. Having that socket around to '25 sounds great, but that's IF their big-little core approach doesn't flop. The Intel timetable also showed more releases for Z790, so it's not quite dead like everyone thought, 15th gen might give it some crazy good processors.
