This is officially canon in my mind. There’s something so hilarious about Palpatine just scooting his chair around while everyone pretends to be intimidated.
They should've had Palps doing this in those Robot Chicken parodies
@@richardjohnson9543 Go for poppa Palpatine
Forever now whenever I think of this I'm going to be thinking of Dr. Evil awkwardly turning that big chair around with his feet in Austin Powers.
I always assumed that’s what he was doing anyways 😂😂😂😂😂
I think my favorite story of post CW palps was that he spent a lot of his time kind of bored and going to see shows. I get a kick out of him attending meetings all day and signing paper work going goooood goooood.
Like it couldn’t have all been cool Sith shit. There had to be a ton of red tape and policy meetings he had to sit in on to at least show face.
I just love Starwars it seems like the more I learn about way they made of it, it gets more technical, inventive and expensive but also that they botched it to perfection.
This why I don't like the Special Editions and disagree with Lucas' prohibition of releasing the theatrical releases. They were perfectly imperfect, and imperfections that literally inspired generations of fans and professionals.
@@nullunit If you don't like the final version George Lucas wanted, then you don't like George Lucas' vision in general.
@@Auvas_Damask quite right. I don't like Lucas' vision *when he's allowed full free reign*. When he's writing *and* directing *and* producing, he makes overly messy, cluttered, hammy movies, with poorly integrated worldbuilding, tone-breaking nonsense and the fingerprints of a man whose style of revising movies is to add and add and add rather than prune. When under the wing of a confident director, his movies are some of the best ever made, which spawned the closest thing we have to a modern mythology a cultural icon that will be remembered for generations.
So yeah, I prefer the vision of a strong director closely informed by Lucas over pure Lucas.
And besides, only a Sith deals in absolutes.
@@TAP7a Where you're right… we have cookies
BAHA I hear r2d2 was a real pain in the ass
And here was me thinking he had a dwarf hiding under the cloak doing that. :P
Lmao 🤣
“I AM A DWARF AND I’M SPINNING A CHAIR!
SWIVEL SWIVEL CHAIR!
SWIVEL SWIVEL CHAIR!
I AM A DWARF AND I’M SPINNING A CHAIR!
SWIVEL SWIVEL CHAIR!
SPINNING A CHAIR!”
@@cardinalhamneggs5253 Thank you for this masterpiece.
I too am digging a hole.
and maybe doing something else under there too?
@@AverageImp ayoo this is star wars. 📸
He did it so smoothly. You can't even see his knees moving or the fabric by his feet getting kicked at all.
It's crazy how this man looked older in Star Wars VI than now.
I mean, he was wearing a **** ton of prosthetic makeup to make Emperor Palpatine look frail in episode VI. Ian would've only been in his late 30's when he was filming Episode VI. Though, I can't seem to find many pictures of him out of Palpatine's makeup from that time.
@@AndrewSmoot so I’m older than the Emperor in his original appearance? Way to make me suddenly insecure about my age 😂
That feels like a robot chicken bit. "Could this day get any worse?"
I read that in the Robot Chicken Palpatine voice lol
I said it sarcasticly so I think I'm safe.
"And the chair is bolted 🔩 to the floor?"😅
And directly under the vent.. hey Crayola get over here and use your staff of rah and close the vent
@@joechilds3256😂
He plays such a villainous character and yet in real life he’s such a kind-hearted man who loves the fans.
That’s what Anakin thought
Palpatine without the ulterior motives is his real personality
That's exactly what a Dark Lord of the Sith would want you to think.
That's how he gets you
That's whats called good acting
That is pretty impressive. He made that chair look like it was moving on it's own and without any movement of his legs showing through.
plot twist: he actually is a sith lord in real life
Yeah i heard he is now apart of the Senate
ngl I never knew if he played the emperor in the original trilogy
I bet that must’ve been a huge shock seeing him as a senator in EP 1 for people who knew him in EP 6
He’s probably one of only a few people who took part in both trilogies and one of the few people who can claim all 3 trilogies
Theres a couple of them
3???
It was an absolute delight to see him as Senator Palpatine in E1. I grew up on the original trilogy and was most excited about him.
I was so excited when I learned he was coming back for rise of skywalker…. It was such a let down. He did a great job with the performance but I wish he could have had more to do.
Yeah i wouldnt claim the last one
Ruin it? He just made it 100 times better lol
The fact that Ian channels Palpatine every time he sits in a swivel chair is legendary.
Never really thought about this lol
Papa Palpatine
Wow. I never knew that. I always thought that some computer was moving the chair. But that he did it himself without actually showing it? Now that’s some cinematic magic
"Young Skywalker..." *Tap tap tap tap*
Blud is an absolute legend. Perfectly played the greatest cinematic mastermind/villain several decades apart.
That is the cleanest swivel in the history of chairs. Well done 👏🏼
He didn’t use the force?!!! Man, his batteries needed recharging…..
So the Angry Birds short where Pig Palpatine had trouble with his chair had some real life inspiration? Interesting. Ian voiced him there as well.
That didn’t ruin it, that makes it better for me 😂
You wonder if Sidious had his lighter moments when he’s just chilling with his subordinates.
Oh yeah robot chicken.
In the past decade, THIS is the greatest thing Star Wars ever produced.
It's amazing that all I hear is Palpatine, I don't hear an actor, I hear the character himself.
I always thought he was just giving himself a little force push but the tippy toeing turn is way better to imagine 😂
"with huge pink bunny slippers !!!! LOL" - Spock
Can you imagine a dark lord having to actually do that
My Rp Character Was fighting the entire planetary race by being Drunk By Being A Sith Lord
The only actor who appears in all three trilogies
I like my head cannon, of shoddy empire engineering and palpatine having to use the force to move his chair for the ✨drama✨
He really appears to be the exact opposite of Emperor Palpatine in real life. Just the sweetest man.
That’s hilarious 😂
And yet, every time I go back and rewatch this movie now with this new knowledge I *still* can’t see either Ian’s legs or feet moving at all, despite staring straight at them lol
Vader- The emperor would like to see you
The emperor- begins tap dancing
And Dr. Evil’s possessed chair had to definitely be referencing this chair😂
“yeeeeeeeeettt”on episode 3 when anakin y dooku dueling still gets me 😂😂
I think it was sick enough of ian to do a triple sommersault in episode 3. The chair was badass too
That legend is still alive? I am so glad!
I like imagining that's how the emperor went about doing it too.
Imagine him sitting there all menacingly ready to give his speech And then while they're standing behind him The chair just stops working.
Well he did that swivel super smooth
I actually like that a lot more just give him more character development 😂😂 and it just so funny to picture in my head 😂 him doing that and laughing al little before turning around and be serious 😂😂😂 I can't I'm dying 😂😂😂😂
Lol imagine Luke's face when seeing Palpatine rotate his throne with his feet all awkward and serious
I watched this in person, loved it!
Omfg thats hysterical
Smooth. That's a dark sith move right there.
In lore he is exceptionally powerful. He mastered his emotions. That’s the grand lesson in star wars. There is the light and the dark. It’s your choice what side you take..
Lmao he probably did the palpatine chair turn every time he needed to chew his kids out 😂
"I can't count how many times we were called up to the Emperor's Throne Room. That damn chair. That damn chair. Every blasted time. I swear one of us were killed each time for screwing up the last time. Someone must've been sabotaging it. The plans never got it right...."
- Jim, Death Star Technician.
i love his voice
Ian is a gift to humanity for playing such an evil character, we should all be grateful for his talent.
Ian was a brilliant bad guy
This just makes me love palps even more
He could’ve got away with that one because I’d’ve never have known! 😂😂
Lmao making me think of the robot chicken episode where palpatine chair is directly under the ac and is bolted into the floor only spin around lol
Funny thing how he is the only actor that made it into the prequels after first starring in the OT
your an absolute legend mate. cheers mate
Best villain ever
If I close my eyes I hear palpating lol
I PLEDGE MY ALLEGIANCE TO YOUR TEACHINGS.... MY LORD
I met him once as a kid. Hes such a nice bad guy ☺️
Your the man Ian!
Never give away the tricks.
Tbh, I always thought it _was_ just a swivel chair. I thought the Emperor just casually nudged off with one foot and got a smooth glide to where he wanted to be.
😂 SENSEI McDiarmid is THE shit ✊🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🖤
He used the FORCE
LOL Sounds more like a scene from SPACEBALLS than STAR WARS.
A sith lord is always honest 😊
Ian claims he ruined it but I think it's 10x better and pretty funny. The thought of Palpatine having to use his feet to turn the chair around is hilarious to me
This couldn’t be funnier 🤣🤣🤣🤣
that’s just made it better tbh 😂
He explained it before in an angry birds Star Wars promotion!!!
Somehow, Palpatine had turned... this is how he turned.
FREEE PALPATINE
Palpatine palpatine I don't like palpatine 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
I was today years old realizing that Ian Mcdermot played palpatine in return of the Jedi before the prequels….I seriously thought they were two different actors
A surprise to be sure. But a welcome one 😊
Long live the SENATE!😂😂😂
❤ Ian
It spins in both directions 🤪
He may be in the worst 7 Star Wars movies but he almost always the best part of it and he sounds like a nice fella
Now i can't remember if it in robot chicken but him spinning and it stopping going shit one moment then kicking his legs
Palpatine: Hehehe! Spinny spin spi- Ah, my young apprentice, my old friend… 1,000,000 credits and an upgraded bacta tank if you forget you saw this.
Vader, hiding his smirk and snickering: Of course, My Master…
Vader to every single admiral, moff, general, and captain: HE WAS JUST SPINNING IN HIS CHAIR!
Could've used the force but this is hilarious 😂...
UNLIMITED POWEEEEER!
Thats crazy
That's hilarious 😂😂😂
I thought it was just a ewok under his robe
That is sooo funny 😂
Lol Ey won't make me hate the OG Star Wars, it's just movie magic. 👏🏾
Im surprised that's never been a bit
Why does this man sounds so evil while talking about everyday life?
It would have been far cooler if the chair was floating through his use of the force
I heard he had depression because people found him scary. That is why he turned to humor
god that is so fucking funnt
It’s treason then.
Blew it! 😅
But it’s clearly automated in the clip at the end
I’m not buying this nice guy act. He’s a Sith underneath
The only great performance from the prequels was from this man!
Adult swim was right! 😂 😂
I like to imagine this is how it was in canon too. The Emperor, all powerful sith lord, using his feet to change direction because his chair malfunctioned.
Well in cannon he would use the force
He can turn this chair with the force.
It was either that or the Death Star's laser wouldn't work.
It screams "robot chicken sketch"
@@guybrush1701”and the chair is bolted to the floor!
Little people in robot suits, potatoes for asteroids, and Flintstones tech. I love George Lucas.
The f'n potato asteroid! 😂
And the tennis shoe!
Genius is rarely appreciated in its time lol
