When you were fixing the sickle bar you had a good bit of grease smeared on your elbow....I thought well good for him, a bit of elbow grease always helps!
At least you didn't have tractor issues. That's the heart of the operation. Thank your sponsor unless you don't need to I guess. Glad the sickle bar worked so good. It was very enjoyable to watch. Hope the grass rockets up!
One of my dads favorite childhood memories were he and his father were mowing hay on our hay field with a sickle bar mower. When Grandpa would get about half way through with the field, he would get my dad and while my dad rove the tractor, Grandpa would ride on the fender shooting rabbits and snakes that had retreated towards the center of the hayfield where the grass was still tall. That night they would have rabbit stew or fried rabbit for dinner. My brother now has Grandpas shotgun that they used.
It's great how you figure out how to fix your breakdowns...Great welding job, too ! You seem to stay real calm when you have a problem...Just great to watch you and listen how you plan to get all going. Be careful and just waiting for your next video....Really enjoy your videos...Thank You !
We cut hay ,alfalfa, and native with one for years . Dad let them bring a swather and baler down from the implement dealer in town but we never bought any . We stayed with the sickle bar and stacked it loose .
Evan I really like it that you fix things and I like it that you laugh while you fix things because I think attitude is everything!! I love it that you can figure out what’s wrong and that you can also solve problems fairly quickly and go right back to what you’re doing within a days time it’s not sooner!!! I love your videos and I find them so enjoyable❣️❣️ this video was very enjoyable as you cut along the ditches and across the dam and then you went back after you fix things and went out into the Cloverfield which was so beautiful and I think the reason it was looking so nice even though you were only cutting a couple of inches is because fall has set in and the weather is different and thereby allowing the plants to dry out in the afternoon and lay down more so than in the spring and early summer when you have moisture when you have you on the ground… What do you think? Also I learn a lot when you fix things and you show it with your camera very well!! You have great photography as you film the Footage and it is really nice so thank you for everything♥️♥️😊
I had a 4' Haban sickle mounted on a '69 Gilson 12hp garden tractor... Man, but that was the bees knees for clearance mowing around the shops and down the driveway edges... Years later, finally lost the crankshaft on that haban, and couldn't get the part... the tractor is with me still.
Evan you are awesome at fixing your equipment. You figured out the problem and you fix it. Who could ask for more. Dirty job sometimes but it was worth it. You saved money by doing it yourself. Way to go Evan!!
Good job Evan, glad things went well with the sickle bar mower plus you found a problem and fixed it before the next cutting. Stay safe and keep up the good work and fun. Fred.
Thanks for sorting the vagueness of the noble sickle-bar mower for (with) us Evan! Excellent "job" on the dam brush; it was so thick it wouldn't even fall over when cut...! Missed Rebecca this time...
Evan, have you considered pouring a concrete pad to place your implements on? It would keep them out of the weeds, and moisture, and extend the life of your equipment. Love the channel!
I’m not sure if I’m the only one but I’ve always hated mowing. My dad had the identical nh451. Always plugging and jammed. Bought a Massey Ferguson disc mower- best thing ever
Great video great work Evan. Your welds look fine. I've seen all of the videos that you made about the sickel bar and that is definitely the best that that sickel bar has ran. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
I have plans to put some white rock down to park might equipment on. I think I'm going to put down some landscaping fabric and maybe even some cardboard under that to block the weeds before I apply the rock.
Have you considered put your equipment in the old blue barn where you put some of your hay bales. The sun, rain & sun can do a lot of damage to the belts on that baler. Keeping the equipment dry make everything last a lot longer and less repairs.
On the cable on the sickle--try it without moving the bolt on the end of the cable next time you mow the dam. IIRC, that system is designed to let the bar extend "down" like you're wanting it to if the 3-point hitch is lowered, then make the bar raise up high on the end when you raise the 3-point, like yours is doing.
Good job at cleaning the dam. I used a sickle cutter on my farm the first few years, then I bought a mower conditioner. The sickle I had was a 7 foot Ford and it was a real bear to operate. I did more adjusting and section replacements than you can imagine. Went through several pitman arms, I just got tired of working on the old thing. Great video, enjoyed watching, thanks for sharing and have a great week.
Great job on the welds you could have spent other hour or two Gerri t the torch out heating up the bend straightening it out then you’d have to line up those pulleys again more time spent. Next time when time and money allows pull out the disk push out the top soil and put down fabric and rock to set your employment on
Glad you held on to the sickle bar. I’m bad about selling something once I buy a better piece of equipment to replace it. You’re inspiring me to return to my hoarding ways!
Love the video. You might replace the bolt with a locking pin for the coarse adjustment in case you want to do that while in the field or away from the barn.
When I was younger I helped cut and rake hay with a cycle bar mower and a pto driven rake there was something calming about watching the grass fall over the cycle bar and raking it up into wind rows when all the equipment was working right
however, if you ever tried a "offset flail mower" you'd sell that sickle (as "slick" as they are, especially after your investment in the implement...) you'd never go back to any kind of reciprocating "cutter-bar" type of mower. Expensive, but smooth.
Nice video. I had a 501 ford 7' sickle and it had a rod you had to hook up on the left arm of the 3pt that controlled a tension spring that lifted the bar up for it. I like the cable idea better. Id take out the bolt on the one end by the bar and put a pin in it in case you needed to change its pitch in the field so you wouldn't have to carry wrenches or have to go back to the barn lol. But keep the videos coming.
I cringed when you mowed edge of driveway. #57 gravel eats mower sections. I mowed 3/4 mile of roadside in late summer, not realizing how much gravel was in its path due to snowplowing previous winter. Replaced all sections & never did that again.
Thank you for sharing. We sure like following you through your progress. One comment: my husband grew up in farm country and said the farmers didn't like using the sickle because baby deer and bird nests get decimated with that thing. Hope you take a walk about before you go through with that machine.
You don't want to cut all the way to the pond. Those plants hanging over the water's edge provide habitat for insects and small lizards which in turn benefit the fish in the pond.
Evan, the best cutter for the side of the drive way and around your equipment would be maybe a six foot bush hog behind your tractor and then you would be able to mow in areas where the sickle mower can' t fit. You might find a good used one somewhere.
It did a nice job on the pond dam Evan even if it was a bit short. But an offset mower would be the trick on the drive. Anyway nice work and a great job on repairing it. It should work tons better now. 👍
outside end of cutter bar should be swept forward about 3 or 4 inches ahead of the head by the tire. Your lift looks almost correct. buy a owners manual. Lots of tech info in it. saved me a lot of grief.
When you were fixing the sickle bar you had a good bit of grease smeared on your elbow....I thought well good for him, a bit of elbow grease always helps!
The Sickle Bar is such a simple tool............yet it's so peaceful to watch it in action.
Congrats on fixing the mower blade thing ....... it's a good day when you go home with grease LOL 😂😂😂😂
As the youngest of 5 growing up on a large farm, brings back many memories!
At least you didn't have tractor issues. That's the heart of the operation. Thank your sponsor unless you don't need to I guess. Glad the sickle bar worked so good. It was very enjoyable to watch. Hope the grass rockets up!
so gratifying watching the sickle bar do the pond dam....
One of my dads favorite childhood memories were he and his father were mowing hay on our hay field with a sickle bar mower. Way better is like more better!
Brilliant way to clean up around the lake and doesn't toss it all into the water either.
Thx for sharing this nice video! You're someone who can repaer anything I believe !!! Great job ! Greetings from Belgium ;-)
Evan I really like it that you fix things and I like it that you laugh while you fix things because I think attitude is everything!! I usually have to fix a problem before I fix the problem i started with. Glad you got the sickle bar fixed
welcome to farm life you are always fixing something
Great job on the repair, looks much better!
Sounds like me, always fixing something. My daughter has even called me 'fix it Phil' and bought me a shirt that says mr. fix it. Love your videos.
Glad you're still getting some use out of the sickle bar, you've put so much work into it.👍
Absolutely! Like seeing an old friend. Did an excellent job on that hayfield, and a good fix for the lifting.
That was awesome to watch!!
Evan you are awesome at fixing your equipment. You figured out the problem and you fix it. Who could ask for more. Dirty job sometimes but it was worth it. You saved money by doing it yourself. Way to go Evan!!
Hello from the Netherlands and thanks for the video. Sincerely, Hollandduck
Pond is looking great!! Mowing on the farm is not for the faint of heart!! 👍🏻🫣🙈
The pond is looking better
You put out good information thank you
And you work a 40-hour/week job... quite impressive work ethic and discipline.
I have a 10ft land pride bush hog with a wing on one side. Works great on ditches
Love that tractor
The sickle bar is a good idea, but I agree a shorter bar would be better in the driveway. Cheers my friend.
good one, keep safe..
Your drone footage is so good.
Great video. Love you all brother. God bless.
It made a good job on the pond dam Evan
Another great video, the pond is clearing up pretty well. Stay “Farmer Strong” in your efforts.
Awesome drone footage of cutting clover. Thanks for sharing
The family farm of ours has lots of equipment grown up with weeds. Working on that project now!
It was a good experiment. You don’t know until you try.
Alll that ragweed is making sneeze!
The tool you want is always at the back. 😁
The sickle bar worked better today than ever before. Didn't clog
They're expensive, but you need an offset flail mower. 😀
Congratulations on your 100K subscribers. Wholesome, genuine and easy to the eye and on the mind! Thank you.
Good job Evan, glad things went well with the sickle bar mower plus you found a problem and fixed it before the next cutting. Stay safe and keep up the good work and fun. Fred.

Good Job Evan 🤙
Evan, have you considered pouring a concrete pad to place your implements on? It would keep them out of the weeds, and moisture, and extend the life of your equipment. Love the channel!
Good job. Pond looks much better.
Love the vids keep up the hard work🎉 I have been watching for a long time 😊
Great fix, it worked so good you may cut hay next time
Something that really works well for mowing like that is a off set flail mower
You're right ETO. An offset flail mower would work great on that drive. Maybe not long enough for the pond dam.
Good show bro! 💯
Looks like it works great on dam
Evan, you are like the energizer bunny, you keep going and going. Another great vlog.
Awesome Even. Good to get things fixed ready for the next job.
I’m not sure if I’m the only one but I’ve always hated mowing. My dad had the identical nh451. Always plugging and jammed. Bought a Massey Ferguson disc mower- best thing ever
Hey evan just a thought I would try putting a 6" lawn mower wheel on the end of the sickle bar
Good 👍 job man
Great video great work Evan. Your welds look fine. I've seen all of the videos that you made about the sickel bar and that is definitely the best that that sickel bar has ran. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
I saw the grease when you were working on the mower and at first thought it was a tattoo.
I have plans to put some white rock down to park might equipment on. I think I'm going to put down some landscaping fabric and maybe even some cardboard under that to block the weeds before I apply the rock.
Thank you
Good job.
I live my dream of having a farm through this channel. I love the mechanical type videos the best. Keep it up.
Have you considered put your equipment in the old blue barn where you put some of your hay bales. The sun, rain & sun can do a lot of damage to the belts on that baler. Keeping the equipment dry make everything last a lot longer and less repairs.
a day full of woops, learning the hard way sucks! That's is going to be me in another 7 years.
Pond looks good...
Glad to see the cycle mower worked for you
Every hour in the field you can count on three in the shop. Good job
I have those same trees on my property!
The “I’ll cut them down next year” variety. They’re about 3 years older now. 😂
A man in my county rolled his tractor into his pond while mowing around it.
I'll smoke one whitcha
The Dam looks much better.

Maybe look around for a used shorter bar and knife, even an old one 1⃣ almost scrapped mower. Just for difficult areas like this one
I'm proud of you both and the job you've done congratulations on the award!
Great job on the welds you could have spent other hour or two Gerri t the torch out heating up the bend straightening it out then you’d have to line up those pulleys again more time spent. Next time when time and money allows pull out the disk push out the top soil and put down fabric and rock to set your employment on
Evan I noticed your pond is free from all the duck weed. It work.
Nice
That worked great Evan!
A sickle bar doesn't require fixing, it requires a scrap yard.
Glad you held on to the sickle bar. I’m bad about selling something once I buy a better piece of equipment to replace it. You’re inspiring me to return to my hoarding ways!
The sickle bar repair seems to be the same story if new or old for all farmers. A great joy to farming when everything goes well with machinery.
Hard to tell but the board looks to need more of an angle. Should roll cut grass 8 to 10” in order to have clear path for drive shoe.
Love the video. You might replace the bolt with a locking pin for the coarse adjustment in case you want to do that while in the field or away from the barn.

Rework that cyclebar mower this winter Evan.
I would love to be able to use a sickle bar at our place... Far too many rocks though :( Looks very nice once you've used a sickle on the clover.
I cringed when you mowed edge of driveway. #57 gravel eats mower sections. I mowed 3/4 mile of roadside in late summer, not realizing how much gravel was in its path due to snowplowing previous winter. Replaced all sections & never did that again.

That tool does a solid job. Looks DANGEROUS, BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR HANDS, THAT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN ‼️🚜 Vinny 🇺🇸
After your first frost the deer will probably keep the clover clipped for you.
You don't want to cut all the way to the pond. Those plants hanging over the water's edge provide habitat for insects and small lizards which in turn benefit the fish in the pond.
put down some wide landscape fabric, then limestone on top. I would spray first. to put your attachments on.
Evan, the best cutter for the side of the drive way and around your equipment would be maybe a six foot bush hog behind your tractor and then you would be able to mow in areas where the sickle mower can' t fit. You might find a good used one somewhere.
With your weed problem I would consider some herbicide used correctly. You would need a good sprayer.
It did a nice job on the pond dam Evan even if it was a bit short. But an offset mower would be the trick on the drive. Anyway nice work and a great job on repairing it. It should work tons better now. 👍

Hello Evan good video isn't there a adjustment on your arms on the 3 point hook up? Cutting the weeds sure makes a difference. Have a great day.
