‘93 was Favre’s first full season in Green Bay (he took over for an injured Don Majkowski week 3 or 4 in ‘92). They had also signed Reggie White as the top FA of that year prior to the start of the season. This was Scott Mitchell’s audition to get big money in the off-season from the Lions as he was replacing Dan Marino who tore his Achilles against the Browns earlier that year. Joe Montana’s and Marcus Allen’s first year with the Chiefs. This was Bill Belchick’s first QB controversy as he had released Bernie Kosar in mid season after he drew up a play in the dirt and threw his last TD pass as a Brown, citing “diminishing skills”. For my money, the final week of the 1979 season was the craziest of all-time. For the Bears to make the playoffs, Chicago needed to win, Washington needed to lose, and Chicago needed to outscore the Cardinals by 32 points. Somehow, they did that
Don't forget the Bucs winning 3-0 in a monsoon to win the NFC Central (people forget if they lose that game, Chicago's outscoring the Cardinals by 32 points would have won them a division title)
The net points in conference tiebreaker. That became the focal point in the last week of 1999 when the Packers had to beat the Cardinals by some insane margin because if the Panthers beat the Saints by some insane margin the Panthers would make the playoffs
The last regular season week that CBS was the NFC network. After the 1993 NFC Championship game and 38 years of NFL-NFC football going back to 1956, CBS was out of pro football. Fox takes over the NFC rights and a sports division was born. Next weekend, for the first time in the 28 year history of the NFL on Fox, there is a Week 18!
Oh I'm so glad this is brought up. That Week 18 (only double bye year in NFL history)...I watched two of the more indelible games of my youth...the Giants/Cowboys winner takes the NFC East (and home field advantage) classic, better known as The Emmitt Smith Game. That will forever be the most courageous and big time performance by an injured player I've ever seen. He earned two MVP's that day...because Dallas doesn't go through San Francisco and the Giants on the road that year IMHO. And then, watching my frequently underachieving Raiders come back from 30-13 down to beat the Broncos 33-30 in OT after tying the score on the last play of regulation. To this day, that is the only 'win or go home' game the Raiders franchise has won (1-5) despite all six of them being at home, including 0-3 at the Oakland Coliseum (1979, 1995, 2011). All six and Sunday night, seven, games have been against AFC West opponents. I remember being SPENT...like emotionally exhausted and I was only 14 years old. Life of a Raiders fan.

Thanks for going back and taking a look at the final week of the 1993 season. Twas a good one. Wish the current setup today was 16 games with 2 BYE weeks per team. Would be perfect.
1993 was kind of the same as 2021 in having an 18-week season. The difference was 1993 was 16-games, two byes. This season, it’s 17-games, one bye. Oh, one final ‘last’ footnote from the 1993 season. It’d be the last CBS broadcast the NFC side of things, as FOX would take over that package beginning in 1994. CBS didn’t return until 1998 with the AFC package in hand.
‘93 - the last ‘biggest season ever’, I know 2 byes seemed excessive and each wk fewer games but still that meant more wks of nfl action - what’s wrong with that? I kind of prefer the ‘93 way than having the extra game which players are rightly concerned about revenue amt & health risk
Side note with the Vikings winning and clinching a playoff berth. Minnesota RB Roger Craig went to the postseason for an eleventh straight year, a record at the time.
@@MatthewChristianMurray - I'm not sure what the record is now. My best guess would be who else but Tom Brady. He's currently about to start his thirteenth straight postseason campaign (2009-2021).
Mr. Craig retired after '93, and he is one of a very few players who played as long as he did to have NEVER missed the playoffs. Not many other players can claim that.
Instead of adding a 17th game the NFL should've added a 2nd bye week during the season if they cared about player health but yet they added another game
@Angus Johnson It's a possibility bc they would literally have to. Bye weeks begin week 5 there is no way you can have teams with a bye week on week 5 then have them play 14 straight regular season games then potentially postseason games. IMO the only way they can add a 18th game and a 2nd bye week would be if they started the season in August bc if they add on at the end whats the SB going to be in March?
Thank you. They can barely get through 16 and felt the need to add one more game that no one asked for. The fact that the players tried to change their vote showed how dumb it is.

That Bledsoe td was the real start of the come up that has basically given us 30 years of strong qb play and counting. Actually we're at 29 and counting but we know we got mac unless something horrible happens.
This season will always hold a special place in my heart. I first became interested in football at the end of the 1993 season. The first team I really liked was the Patriots, because they got hot at the end of Bledsoe’s rookie year. I saw the Packers come back to beat the Lions in the first round. I remember watching Joe Montana lead the Chiefs over the Oilers in the divisional round, unaware that it would be the last Oilers playoff game ever. I remember seeing the final score of the Niners-Giants game on a TV at a Sam’s Club, and later seeing a few plays of Bills-Raiders on a TV at an Olive Garden, of all places. The Houston Oilers 11 game winning-streak was the greatest in NFL History in 1993. That team was loaded with great players, but they failed at the end against the chiefs.
There was a lot of internal strife in the 1993 Oilers and I think Buddy Ryan was the immediate instigator. We know he backstabbed Mike Ditka in Chicago; the fight with Gilbride looked like Ryan thinking he should be head coach
@@STP43FAN1 That game was amazing. Staley had to ruin it by calling a TO. I think the Bengals wouldn’t have made it this far as they’d have had to play the Patriots instead of the Raiders. I never knew that Tagliabue scheduled an 18-game regular season that year unless there was some sort of player strike that sparked in the middle of the season
It was actually still a 16-game season. It's just that there was 2 bye weeks instead of 1 during that time period. They should honestly bring back the 2 bye weeks at some point.

How’s that for coincidence. The Steelers needed help in ‘93 and this season to get in the playoffs for the only planned week 18 in the history of the NFL and both times they play the Chiefs on Wild Card Weekend.
As a Cowboys fan, I loved the way the last game vs the Giants played out. First Emmitt carried the team on his one shoulder. Second I made a bet with my sister's boyfriend that Dallas would win. $50 richer that day!!
Ah yes, the typical "Brett Favre in a Dome Game™️" where Brett would double or triple or quadruple the number of turnovers vs TDs. It only gets more and more pronounced as time goes on.
Leave it to the NFL to screw up the best playoff system in all of sports with a new wildcard team, a 17 game schedule and three wildcard teams all in the name of money.
1993 were firsts and lasts. 2009 were firsts and lasts also. Cowboys open a new stadium in Arlington. Giants and Jets close their stadium Giants Stadium. Brett Favre in Vikings uniform. Steelers miss playoffs a year after won Super Bowl XLIII. Giants started 5-0 but miss playoffs. Last time Donovan McNabb was in Philly. Houston Texans posted a winning record for the first time since 1993 when they were the Houston Oilers.
A little fact, had the Oilers not lost their home divisional round playoff game to KC..it’s a strong possibility that the Houston Oilers are still an NFL franchise, & the Tennessee Titans never exist.
Something about the Chiefs destroying Houston NFL franchises in the Divisional round... the Oilers after the 93 season (Bud Adams blew it up after that season and move them to Tennessee a couple years later), and the Texans after the 2019 season (the Texans still haven't recovered from leading 24-0 to losing 51-31).
The NFL - this is the craziest final week in NFL history! Also the NFL - let's never structure our seasons with two byes ever again. This literally seems like every final week..
For the Cowboys they were 7-4 after losing to the Dolphins. The Dolphins were 9-2 without Marino after the Thanksgiving game. The Cowboys would win the next 5 games including the Giants one in this clip. The Dolphins would lose the next 5 including the Patriot game. Yes, I know that was a touchdown, but there was no replay then so it was incomplete. The Dolphins went 9-7 and missed out on the playoffs. They were the ONLY team to go 9-2 and miss the playoffs at the end of the season. If they had Marino they would have easily won at least 1 games to be playoff bound. The Cowboys on the other hand hunkered down and won out. That's why Jimmy Johnson is the hall of fame, got the players to be focused and after an 0-2 start won the Super Bowl with all that turmoil.
The only AFC team that didn’t have its fate in its own hand somehow got in. If instant replay existed Miami goes to the playoffs. Mark Ingram caught a pass at the back of the end zone that was rules incomplete.
We have a chance to see Tom Brady set the record for most passing yards in a season, Cooper Kupp set the record for most receptions and receiving yards in a single season and T.J. Watt set the record for the most sacks in a season. If they all three do this it would be the most historic week in Nfl history
This is basically already one of the most historic seasons in NFL history, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more than 3 records broken in this final week
#1 seed clinching scenarios for AFC this weekend: Titans can clinch #1 seed with win against Texans Chiefs can clinch #1 seed with win against Broncos AND Titans loss Bengals can clinch #1 seed with a win against the Browns AND Titans loss AND Chiefs loss AND Bills win or Patriots loss. Two years ago, week 17 Seattle vs San Francisco The division title was on the line for the last game of the 100th season. Seattle was on the 1 yard line with Marshaun Lynch ready to make Amends for Super Bowl 49. Seattle is disoriented and there is a penalty for the play clock. On third down there is a missed PI call. On 4th down Russ rolls out of the pocket finds Jacob holester at the two yard line. He starts running for the end zone but he gets tackled with inches maybe even centimeters to go. They reviewed the play and the ball was not over the line. That is how the 100th season ends
Not only was the division title on the line. If the 49ers won (which they did) - 13-3 49ers get the 1 seed and home field advantage due to beating both the Packers n Saints and having the same conference record as the Packers. If the Seahawks won - 13-3 Packers get home field advantage due to a better conference record than the Saints - 13-3 Saints move up to the 2 seed, and 12-4 Seahawks host the 6th seed 10-6 Vikings while the 5th seed 12-4 49ers go on the road across the country to Philadelphia to play the 4th seed 9-7 Eagles
The Eagles got eliminated but they did go out in a blaze beating the Niners 37-34 in overtime, this despite blowing a 24-3 lead then blowing a subsequent 34-24 lead

As a Cowboys fan, I loved the way the last game vs the Giants played out. First Emmitt carried the team on his one shoulder. Second I made a bet with my sister's boyfriend that Dallas would win. $50 richer that day!!
Love a good gambling story. My brother still owes me 5 bucks from the colts bears superbowl
@@milesbrown7345 lol plus interest.
Week 18 and the raiders clinching the playoffs in a crazy game. No better combo.
You mean brett favre threw some interceptions? I am shocked.
Scott Hanson would have been in his glory!
Ah yes, the typical "Brett Favre in a Dome Game™️" where Brett would double or triple or quadruple the number of turnovers vs TDs. It only gets more and more pronounced as time goes on.
Divisional playoff round against the St Louis Rams 2002.
....yikes 😬
For the longest time the Packers couldn’t win enough on AstroTurf
Very interesting idea and video presentation! You could so the same for many diff seasons.
Leave it to the NFL to screw up the best playoff system in all of sports with a new wildcard team, a 17 game schedule and three wildcard teams all in the name of money.
And a Monday night wild card to top it off
Eric Lynch - the week before in Detroit’s 20-14 win over the Bears Lynch rushed 22 times for 85 yards and caught seven for 46
RAIDERS 42 Denver 24 1993 playoff game wild card
Nah we just saw the craziest final week of regular season ever
That was wild dude. One of the best seasons ever
“ Pure Hogwash “ 😂😂😂😂
This was crazy but This sunday will be crazier
The NFL - this is the craziest final week in NFL history!
Also the NFL - let's never structure our seasons with two byes ever again.
Week 18 of the 2021 season tops this. Change my mind.
The punch
emmit smith and his cortozon shot got the win
I think this is going to be a retcon. This week was wild
from what i remember, 2013 was the best final week that I remember. Eagles cowboys nailbiter to decide NFC East and Packers Bears.
You're Amazing NFL Throwback
Nothing was crazier than this year
The Niners also got their first playoff win over the Giants since 1984
This is great but what about the last week of the 1999 season (the "we need more points" one)
The good old days
Last season w/o scorebug on NFL telecasts
Final season of CBS w/NFC package
1994: NFL’s 75th season, 1st NFL on Fox
Put this entire week on Redzone and let us watch it in real time as it plays out
A little fact, had the Oilers not lost their home divisional round playoff game to KC..it’s a strong possibility that the Houston Oilers are still an NFL franchise, & the Tennessee Titans never exist.
The Oilers simply moved out of Houston, then became the Tennessee Titans after settling in Nashville.

Only after Memphis.
For those wondering The Sharpe brothers put on a show Wild Card weekend.
More 90's vids please

This literally seems like every final week..
bring back the frieken 90s...

Classic Jets blunder, win and you’re in. They lose and helped another team get in 🥴
Post the Packers @ Lions 1993 game highlights.
Week 17 this year was kinda crazy
Tbh I thought other years would make it. 2013, 2014 for some. 2009 was also wild
Happy New Year MariosNum OneFan
The entire ryan family is pretty classy, aren’t they? 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Wow check out the arm strength of Jeff hostetler! He is ripping that thing 4:21
They didn't show the highlight. Mark Ingram had a game winning TD for the Dolphins. It was ruled out of bounds. They didn't have replay in 1993.
The 90s!!
The only AFC team that didn’t have its fate in its own hand somehow got in. If instant replay existed Miami goes to the playoffs. Mark Ingram caught a pass at the back of the end zone that was rules incomplete.
About that Cowboys winning FG against the Giants: why was TE Jay Novacek the holder?
We have a chance to see Tom Brady set the record for most passing yards in a season, Cooper Kupp set the record for most receptions and receiving yards in a single season and T.J. Watt set the record for the most sacks in a season. If they all three do this it would be the most historic week in Nfl history
This is basically already one of the most historic seasons in NFL history, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more than 3 records broken in this final week
Emmitt Smith, when men were men and women weren't.
2:33 if Joe Buck was commentating...
Mitchell.... Mitchell... Mitchell

Wait why didn’t you put redskins at 8:46 while you put oilers on 6:16??
They didn't have a week 18 only 17 weeks back then. This year just became 18 weeks
#1 seed clinching scenarios for AFC this weekend:
Titans can clinch #1 seed with win against Texans
Chiefs can clinch #1 seed with win against Broncos AND Titans loss
Bengals can clinch #1 seed with a win against the Browns AND Titans loss AND Chiefs loss AND Bills win or Patriots loss.
Patriots can clinch #1 seed with win against Dolphins AND Titans loss AND Chiefs loss AND Bills loss
Two years ago, week 17 Seattle vs San Francisco
The division title was on the line for the last game of the 100th season.
If the 49ers won (which they did)
- 13-3 49ers get the 1 seed and home field advantage due to beating both the Packers n Saints and having the same conference record as the Packers.
If the Seahawks won
- 13-3 Packers get home field advantage due to a better conference record than the Saints
- 13-3 Saints move up to the 2 seed, and 12-4 Seahawks host the 6th seed 10-6 Vikings while the 5th seed 12-4 49ers go on the road across the country to Philadelphia to play the 4th seed 9-7 Eagles
“Can I get a witness!!!” Typically Shannon Sharpe
Buddy Ryan attacking Kevin Gilbride - Ryan was nothing but a backstabber
Is that... Joe Vincent? Nobody does it like him
Yep, That Is Joe Vincent!
The Eagles got eliminated but they did go out in a blaze beating the Niners 37-34 in overtime, this despite blowing a 24-3 lead then blowing a subsequent 34-24 lead
Cowboys #1
So Bill Belichick is the only active NFL head coach to have been a head coach during the previous week 18 in the NFL?
Yep
