- Trash to Treasure - Tearing apart and salvaging parts from an old overhead projector. A Fresnel lens is pretty awesome, and you can get one out of an old overhead projector. Just another video of Trash to Treasure, getting useful items from ordinary trash.
Buddy I don't know why you don't have a couple million views on your channel with all the information, tips, tricks etc. that you share in these videos... Your how to's and stuff like that you do is SUPER informative!
***** Thanks Friend. I'm glad that you like my videos. I plan to keep on making them.
For artists, you can use the body as a light box. You can probably adapt the mirror/lens head as a camera lucida. And you might be able to adapt the lens from the head to make a telescope.
Enjoyed the education you provided about the lens! Never knew about that before!👍
I just found onr yesterday, 😎👍
Heck yeah!
Thank you! Have an old projector stasjed in my shop. Been debating on whether to keep it for pattern transfers or break it down to get the lens. (Didn't think about the potential for multiples.) Far more likely to use the lens than to use the projector for it's intended purpose. Plus, it's taking up valuable shelf space. Thumbs up!
Oldtimer Lee Thanks, and no problem. I figured someone would like the knowledge, so I made the video. Glad to help out cleaning up your shop.
nice score on the projector andy, them fresnals will start a fire in a snowstorm, lol, love your trash to treasure projects, best wishes m8
davie-m Thanks Davie. It has to be a sunny snowstorm though. :-)
19:49 a beautiful sight to behold ^_^ :D I have a lot ... like a lot of these lens with even more magnification reflectors. I've scraped many rear projection tvs and other things ..I haven't had a chance to scrape one of these yet... I have a few jumbo ones 48in and 65in ones... I currently have this size of lens in my bug out bag atm.(sandwiched between my shelter ) One thing i like is that they gather so much light that they can work even with thin clouds or smoke.
TFS... was awesome to watch :D
Thanks. A lot of people seem to like the lens.
yeah my friends like when i show a 2 by 4 on fire with solar in 20seconds lol ...:D.
Never heard of a Fresnel lense.. now i have
RoadTripVidz They're pretty powerful. And they are a lot cheaper than to try to buy a normal convex lens of the same power. Thanks for watching and commenting.
You're a really smart dude, post more videos like this though...I learn a lot from it.
RoadTripVidz Thanks for saying that. I am really still testing what my viewers want. I feel like I lose more viewers than I gain. I've been stuck around 250 Subs for like 3 months. I don't know how to fix it. With my channel I just cannot trap myself into just Bushcraft, or inventions, or one category. I like to teach. I always wanted to be a teacher. UA-cam gives me that avenue. I plan to do more videos on things like this. That's why I came up with the "Trash to Treasure" idea of videos. If I get more trash, I'll make more treasure.
PoopingAndroid I think you're on to a great idea, I mean it does exist on UA-cam but you know a LOT about mechanical/electrical... find a way to showcase what you know here. You can do a "Things you didn't know about common appliances" type of thing, where y ou tear down different appliances and talk about the uses of parts from them like you did with this video. Then throw in a few outdoorsy videos and you're golden. I know doing interviews and women tend to help views. So find some local kentucky ladies to get in some shots
Great Movie projector as well!! If you watch something through it, the video looks true 3d veiwing it through the fresnel lens, you should try it, its trippy!
I got one of those projectors for $20 at a thrift shop several months ago, took it apart, and had the curiosity to see if I could (using the Fresnel lens) during a full moon catch anything on fire from the reflected sun from the moon. Didn't work !! Good to know the focal length is about 10 inches though... as it's a little different than a regular magnifying glass in how it puts a bright dot on the burn location. I was also told by a TV repair guy (he sometimes repairs projection TV's that have much bigger Fresnel lenses) that the "s" in Fresnel is silent since it's named after a French guy who invented it. I have several other parabolic mirrors and magnifying lenses of various sizes that I was hoping to do a comparison study on to see which performs better... which packs up better for backpack / camping outings... will probably be posting several vids this month once I get my stuff together. If you haven't checked out this site yet, try greenpowerscience.com for a comparison of buyable larger Fresnel lenses... all kinds of specs, burn time down to tenths of a second, total temp reached, etc. :)
Brad Cox Thanks for all the info Brad. And I have head it pronounced with a silent S, but I have been putting the S in there all my life, so I just didn't think about it.
I always pronounce the S too ! (because I'm not French...nor do I speak French) :)
Brad Cox I'm not French either, and probably not going to change how I say it. People still know what I am talking about.
If you can't feel the ridges on either side of the lens, that means it's actually TWO lenses held together face to face by the non-ridged edges. Cut off said edges to get both lenses. They are apparently even more efficient at focusing sunlight when seperate!
Cool I just got a Elmo Hp-4K Dx out of the trash .. think I’m about to take it apart
21:14 Triangle sky formation!
i have one.........age 1990??
Is the round lens Flat on one side and curved on the other side please? a plano convex lens?
aniary8 Yes it is.
Thank you for your quick reply. do you know the focal length of that by any chance please?
aniary8 I am not sure. I gave it to my old boss. I would guess it at around a foot.
ok , thank you.
Does anyone have a glass that would fit a 3m 9200 ( any 9000 series should work)?
I got 6 of them free, I thought my wife could have use it for he school. turns out she cant. I wish you lived close by to me I would give you them .just to get them out of my way. I found using a lighter works real well to light a fire, especially at night.
Where do you live? I am on vacation and car with unlimited mileage.
+PoopingAndroid New Bedford Mass
+PoopingAndroid where are you? I want to unload these things, they got junk yard written all over them
+Michael Gemaly I'd pay for the lenses. Especially Fresnel lenses if you are willing to take them out and send them.
churches use them to put songs on the wall penacostels how hot does it get on lens were you put transparent tablet wont play with out stoping have you seen old one that takes filament bold like 3oo wats allways run fan after turning off bolb
Fresnel pronounced fren - el
I am afraid you are incorrect. According to Oxford dictionary it is pronounced "freznel".
@@poopingandroid OK, I was half wrong, but you need not be afraid.
