Really cool tree David! Way to tame her down! Definitely on its way to being a showpiece. You sir are quickly becoming one of the go to bonsai artists on UA-cam!
please do more Aussie natives as bonsai, every time I take the dog for a walk I see so many trees and shrubs and wonder about the potential for bonsai. There are so many small leaved bushes and shrubs in Australia that surely would work as bonsai, I don't know what half of them actually are species wise but bonsai potential is potential right..?
There is a tree that grows in Brisbane that my brother and sister in law have growing in there garden and its a Jakaranda when I went over 4 years ago I fell in love with the tree unfortunately due to are crappie weather in the UK we can not grow it its a tree I would love to bonsai our nearest lookalike is a lilac tree so I am trying it ..
I’ve never dug a native before so can’t give first hand advice. I heard they like to be dug when weather start to warm up and dislike the cold. Hopefully that works for you. Thanks.
We have such a wide diversity of native taxa that you can't just say "natives back-bud really well" based on one particular species. There are many Australian genera that won't back-bud on bare wood at all.
Once this has ramified and filled out, it will be stunning. Then add the joy of flowers and it has the makings of something really special.

The bark is so fissured. Is this a type of tree that is subject to the wild-fires?
Wild fires mainly affect gum eucalyptus trees.
