"The Foggy Dew"- Irish Rebel Song (Rare Version)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 чер 2023
- "Foggy Dew" is the name of several Irish ballads, and of an Irish lament. The song chronicles the Easter Rising of 1916, and encourages Irishmen to fight for the cause of Ireland, rather than for the British Empire, as so many young men were doing in World War I.

Today is Easter, this commemorates the Easter rising of 1916.
I think more war/patriotic/folk songs ought to be sung like this in general, this style is about as authentic as it can get, no great and coordinated instrumentals nor even that much rehearsal, just guys singing with real emotion
I always look for recordings like these, and I absolutely love them. I couldn't find any for Battotai so I ended up modifying it lol, you should have a listen if you haven't already
especially when its sung by someone with a voice like luke kelly, legend.
Luke Kelly always managed to put raw and utter power into nearly every single one of his recordings, he was phenomenal
This is the best version of this song.
I never heard a dubliner's version of this. Absolutely fantastic
Ah, Luke! (Lukie, my dad calls him with great fondness. He got to see him in concert at least once). Every song I hear him sing is the best version of it. Talk about talent! Had he been born somewhere else he could’ve been a virtuoso in the opera, and it would have been glorious. (Not saying that would be better, just that his voice, the tone, the strength of it is that remarkable.)
For my Great Grandfather Donnelly. 🇮🇪
One of my most favourite irish songs
Best version imo
Simply beautiful. Speaks volumes to me as a Pole
I first heard this being sung by various rock artists, and I fell in love with the song. But this version, I think I love more, because it's just one or two guys singing with a deep passion that needs no extra instruments to back it up. The rock versions I absolutely still jam out to, but this one strikes my soul and sends a chill through my spine. I can't really describe it as well as I want to, but I've never been that good at crafting my words.
Luke Kelly's voice is always musuc to my ears
Luke Kelly is great, And this is my favourite song. To hear such a nice recording of a song with a story such as this one from where i live, I love this. You are such an underrated channel, I hope you end up as big as Ingen one day, or even bigger.
Thank you, those words mean a lot to me :)
Those heros of 1916 would be ashamed of the clowns in government today
obviously, considering the foundation of todays govt and state, is the counterrevolutionary Irish Free State, that worked to undo the work of thr Irish Republic which the heroes of 1916 gave their lives for.
Respect.
Beautiful
Yes
Hoo-ray Hoo-ray
G'Evening thank you 😉
Ulster is Irish
As someone in Northern Ireland, I agree
Ulster is Irish, but the Irish are British ;)
@@Dryhten1801Yes, because they are from the British Isles, so are Scots, Britons, Cornish and Welsh, the last two being descendents of the Britons.
@@Dryhten1801 Wonder why the British gave them what they wanted after 1922, then. Huh, odd. The isles already lost most of "their" slave-labor sources and countries.
@@Dryhten1801 @TheNevadanNerd You are both actually incorrect. The term "British" didn't come into existence until the late 1600s which applies that even during the conquest of Ireland by England no one on the island of Briton had classed themselves as being British and the British Isle's didn't come into existence until the early 1800s which the majority of the people on the island of Ireland had and still do very much reject the term because it's a political term of one cultures identity being forced upon another cultures identity. Around 90% of the population from top to bottom of the island reject it, even the government rejects it not to mention the British media including the British government no longer use the term they instead replaced it with "these isle's" If it's anything it's the "Celtic Isle's" seeing as 5 out of the 6 cultures are Celtic Cultures.
