So called “Soul jars” are a very old concept that both authors used in their work, but Koschei seems to have been an Inspiration as well. The old Greek + Persian myths have kind of invented/discussed all topics/analogies/human tragedies and dilemmas we can think of and almost all authors reuse this old concepts. Dragons, dwarfs, giants, fear manifested in creatures, wizardry, time travel and both use an old white man as the Godlike being who knows and explains everything. There are parallels but that’s because Tolkiens stories are in parallel to old Myths and stories as well :) I like both books, but find Tolkiens a bit to idealizing his protagonists and his adventures, less emotional so to say…
