I was going to buy a Ducati but after this I am having second thoughts.. The KTM looks like it has far better power and handling..

Comparing Ducati to KTM is like comparing a Ferrari to a Nissan Skyline gtr 35 both amazing but one is just useful and the other is useful plus an incredible fusion of artwork, engineering and history that only a true enthusiast of Italian tuning can appreciate. I have both a Ducati and a KTM and I will pick the duc every time. A Husaberg is a much better comparison with Italian engineering. KTM is the same company but not near the quality of Husaberg or Ducati. If you havnt ridden both of thes

KTM was the first brand to put supermotos out there, then everyone else followed.

    lets see, ktm = 122 hp, ducati = 95 hp -- ktm = torque 97 Nm @ 7000 rpm , ducati = 75.9 Nm@ 5750 rpm -- ktm = wp fully adjustable suspension, ducati = Marzocchi and ohlins fully adjustable suspension, ktm = 189 kilos , ducati = 171 kilos,-- ktm = 4 gallons , ducati = 3.3 gallons, ktm with ABS brakes, ducati no ABS brakes.
i feel the ktm offers more than the ducati, i would definitely choose the ktm. both bikes are amazing.

sticking leg out while leaning is done by all supermoto riders racers, and also some GP racers ,it helps in turning the corner

Take it from a Hypermotard 1100 owner, if you want the Ducati (which happens to be the funnest bike I have ever owned) spend the extra money and get the S version. The brakes and suspension are noticably better. P.S. Don't even bother test driving the 796 version.

Atually the whole 990 KTM family calls for valve service every 7500km..4600 miles..Air cooled ducs go 7500 miles, or 12,000 KM, not quite 2x as long, but close, and the new liquid cooled ducs go 15,000 miles, or 24000km, almost 4x as long. So, it's pretty obvious who's spending time in the garage.

KTM all day long. I'd rather ride than have my bike in the shop, not to mention the price difference.

If you want to have long lasting fun in your garage with maintaining your bike,- go for the ducati. You still lhave enough time looking at the posters of the 281 race triumphs on your garage wall.

@badddave This have to be the other way, i have had 6 KTM's and 4 Husabergs, and all 4 Husabergs went back to the dealer for different engine problems like the loose flywheel and bearings that was worn out before time. The only Husaberg i had who was good was the 2009 i had, but because of the new engine and the way it feels i did not like the feeling of it. KTM's was never a problem.Ducati i cant say anything about because i never had one or drove one :)

Uhm ..this is not a dirt bike vid, and Ducati has won more superbike seasons than all other manufacturers combined...Since 1988 Ducati has won 281 superbike races, followed by Honda with 81 wins. Ktm has never won a single race. So I think that qualifies Ducati as "ready to race".

  • @FlingTM

    That's where your wrong.
I like ktm, but its an easy bike to ride, its a fun bike.
The ducati takes a bit more balls and aggresive riding style to compete with the ktm, but that doesn't mean its for posers. its for the ones with the biggest balls.

In France, the Ducati (Evo SP) is 1000€ more expansive than the KTM. And Everybody says the KTM is better, so... But yes, the look of the Ducati is cooler.
In France, KTM = 13 150€, Ducati Evo SP = 14 190€. And they have 100 hp, a law forbids to have more than 100. We're unlucky.

did you ever check what bikes are made by KTM ??? 90% of their production is dedicated to race bikes ...all the rest beares the same dna..KTM bikes are made for better performance, not for longer service interval thats why ktm is "ready to race" and not ready to last forever....I have my 3th ktm since 2003 I know what it takes to look after racebike. IF you look onto any start of dirt race KTM is defenetly not lastin numbers....why do you think is that ?

The ducati looks better, but I have a feeling the ktm would ride better, plus the ktm is probably a little less likely to break down every 5 minutes, love what ducati do but the reliability factor does come into play for me!

You can't win against the KTM when you compare the engine or the handling, only the optic of the Duc is better, but nothing else. A lot of World Champians professionals are happy about the technic from KTM.
Ok for you as a hobby rider a Duc is more than enough, I'm sure, you can't find the real diverence

I see, you really know nothing, but it seems you like to talk about things. KTM is a Austrian company foundet 1934 with a very great history and its still in the hands of the founders family.
When you talk about quality you have to set the Duc everytime on last position. Duc is not bad and they improve the quality the last years more and more, but the still behind KTM. Maybe the quality of a Duc will be better in 2 or 3 years, because Audi owns since some days the Italian.

Funny...Ducati tied for 2nd place in customer satisfaction in 2012..out of 17 manufacturers...KTM was LAST...I guess Ktm may not have the quality control you think they do... check out webbikeworld. So possibly you may reconsider who knows nothing out there..

You did watch the video, and you speak and comprehend English at least marginally yes? Let me help you out by simplifying this complex vid and concept for you. These are 1000cc streetbikes..not 500cc super-motos. These never touch dirt, or leave the ground. I know it's difficult to understand. Try to actually have a slight clue what you think you know about, before you write something down, and prove you don't. Thanks for your enlightened educated response.

That KTM is a heap of shit they have such a bad name for them self KTM with their poor quality made motor bikes. Trust me I owned a couple and never again
