When the director Peter Berg was making this he met with all three of the fallen SEALs parents. And when he met Dan Dietz Sr. Danny’s father read him Danny’s autopsy report. “My son was shot in the left ankle. He was shot in the calf. He was shot in the groin. He was shot twice in the stomach. He was shot twice in the neck. He was shot three times in the head.” And when he finished he handed Berg the autopsy and said, “That’s who my son was. That’s how tough my son was. You make sure you get that right.”
What I love about that scene where they're discussing what to do with the two boys and old man is there all arguing and giving their opinion, pretty heatedly.. and then the one in charge makes the call and there's absolutely no argument. That's military discipline and efficiency at its finest. 😎🤘

Hollywood has a way of adding drama to movies to make them entertaining. But in this case a lot of what happened was actually toned down. A similar military film based on a true story is "The Outpost" (2020). Also, another film is "12 Strong" (2018) based on the first U.S. military response to the 9/11 attacks. And I also highly recommend the film, "13 Hours" that has been previously mentioned. And there is "Act of Valor" (2012) which is another SEAL based film. BTW if you want to see a fictionalized military film involving a female SEAL recruit, watch, "G.I. Jane" (1997) starring Demi Moore. (You might understand Chris Rock's Oscar's joke better that had enraged Will Smith).

The director is the actor Peter berg. He's been in some very good movies, but he has a knack for directing true story movies. He also did Deepwater Horizon! And i think, The Perfect Storm.
Some crazy things about this movie, Danny Dietz talking about his wife, whose name his Patsy, would go on to marry DJ Shipley, another SEAL who has a 4.5 hour podcast on the Shawn Ryan show, who also had some hands down crazy experiences in the teams
If you like to read, I cannot recommend Lone Survivor highly enough. The battle was much worse than what the movie could show and Marcus was alone and being pursued for roughly two days before being found and given sanctuary by Gulab. The Taliban knew he was in the village and at one point came into the village to torture him. The Taliban was getting ready to attack and decimate the village but before they could U.S.Army Rangers found and rescued Marcus. The villagers took off his uniform and dressed him in traditional Afghan clothes. Marcus had a beard and was over 6 feet tall. Can you think of anyone else who dressed in traditional Afghan clothing, was over 6 feet tall, had a beard, and was being pursued by US troops. Marcus was really in danger from both sides!
It should be noted, that if you read the book, which was really important prep for this movie, you know that Luttrell had to try to survive for a couple of days crawling before finding water, and he had to engage the enemy once while being hunted, all before being found by the Gulab clan.
Just to bring attention to how good most of us in the U.S. have it. The village shown is an accurate depiction of how a majority of the world's population lives.
