  • In this ca. 1975 interview, Art Young talks to University of Texas professor Dr. Lawrence Dodd about "The Case of the Wrangling Professors." The "wrangling professors" in this case were two academics running for O.C. Fisher's Texas District 21 seat in the Congressional election of 1974: Doug Harlan, teaching at the LBJ school at the time, and Bob Krueger, who taught English literature and had been the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University. Young and Dodd discuss how the two professors' personalities, the political and economic climates at the time, and the differing campaigning strategies combined to create an interesting race. While Austin was not a part of Texas's Congressional District 21 in the 1974 race, Dodd discusses how Austin factored into the campaign for its influence as a neighboring, large, capital city.
