It's from my favourite german autor :D he has the most crazy ideas and his stories are just full of wit and creepy creatures! This one is part of a trilogy, which is also part of a much bigger universe created by Moers. If you want to read a book that will surprise over and over again, this is one of the best I can recommend :D
Back when it first came out, I bought a signed hardback copy of 'The Rest of Us Just Live Here' by Patrick Ness and its lovely. The pages are yellow, the signature is wonderful, I was very excited. However, I really don't like hardback books for many reasons, but I wanted a signed copy so bad I bit the bullet and just bought it. Then I went to a bookshop last week with my friend and they had a full display of signed paperback copies of 'The Rest of Us Just Live Here' by Patrick Ness. My friend knew I already had a signed copy, but she pulled a Tom Haverford on me, and just said "Treat yo self!" so I bought it. So now I have two separate signed copies of 'The Rest of Us Just Live Here' by Patrick Ness for no reason, and I want to regret my decision, but I simply don't. And that is my May Bookhaul.
Hi!! :) I am interested in reading the book! but I see that it's the 4th book in the Zamonia Series and I was reading the synopsis and they don't seem connected, do I need to read the three books beforehand or can I read The City of Dreaming Books as a stand alone ? Thanks!!
You can read the City of Dreaming Books as a Standalone. The Zamonia novels are not related too each other, they all just take place at the same fictional continent.
I picked up The Infernal Devices Trilogy this month from the library and I just finished them all. I absolutely loved them they have become one of my all time favorite series.
I HAD THE EXACT SAME THOUGHTS ABOUT ACOMAF AND ACOTAR! I thought the first one was AIGHT but then I read the second one and iT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITES THIS YEAR
a court of mist and fury is currently stomping on my heart. i am having the exact same reaction as you, it's bLOWING MY MIND !!!!!!! i'm so conflicted about the raven cycle series because i really need to reread the series before reading the last one but i don't own the middle two and it would take a long time but i also don't want to get spoiled and just. ... .. . .. the struggle man the struggle REGAN HOLY SHIT I LITERALLY JUST BOUGHT FOOL'S ASSASSIN AS WELL AND I WAS SO UPSET THAT I DIDN'T REALIZE I NEEDED TO READ THE FARSEER TRILOGY FIRST bruh
Ruby was such an amazing read! The setting reminded me a bit of the help but mixed with some magical realism and such beautiful writing! Hope you enjoy!
The City of Dreaming Books is literally my favorite book of all time and I'm so glad a booktuber is finally talking about it! It's such a love letter to literature, I think you'll really enjoy it. :)
I read The Secret History by Donna Tartt earlier this year and reeeeally loved it. Her writing is just so poetic and descriptive and the way she told her story just sucked me in and wrapped me up completely. I'm sure The Goldfinch will be no different! Great haul, as always, Regan! :)
I got a perfect condition, used hard cover of The Night Circus for NINE BUCKS! I'm so excited. It's my very favourite book and now I have the pretty paperback and also the beautiful hardcover. That's my sharing for today. enjoy your books!
Added Eleanor to the TBR because I've been looking for another magical realism book since Ava Lavender. :) I recently picked up Gathering Darkness. I've been making my way through that one this week. Like you said, you got to love fantasy!
The City of Dreaming Books sounds so weird but so cool! Love love looove books with illustrations in them! You got so many great books! I wish I could order from Bookoutlet but the shipping costs to the Netherlands are INSANE
I was super excited when I saw 'The City of Dreaming Books' so I looked it up on Goodreads and it is book 4 in the Zamonia series. I'm not sure if all the books are related or not. I just so happen to have the first book in the series 'The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear'. It's been sitting on my shelves for almost 2 years now, but it looks so good! Not sure why I haven't picked it up yet.
Recently from my school's media center I picked up The Alchemyst by Michael Scott, Eon by Alison Goodman (which I'm currently reading and loving), The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, and The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss of course. I just want to say thank you for talking about this series because I picked up The Name of the Wind because you were talking about it in your videos and I absolutely love it! So thanks. And I'm really excited to continue the series, even if we don't know when the third book is coming out. :P
I'm reading The City of Dreaming Books right now (what a coincidence!), and it's probably one of the best books I've ever read. It mashes middle grade appeal with adult elements and it's a snarky, well-thought, provoking analysis and satire of the book publishing system. Please, do read it soon - it's unlike any book I've ever read and I'm loving every single page. Also, I really really loved The Goldfinch back when it came out! Hope you'll like it.
I actually also got Fool's Assassin a couple months ago without having read the trilogies that come before it. But I'm actually amending this by reading Assassin's Apprentice right now.
I just ordered Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. I read it last year and I have wanted it on my own shelves ever since! So I'm properly going to reread it this summer. Plus I just got a review e-book of The Queen of Tearling and so far it's absolutely amazing! I actually wanted to pick this up(even though I hate reading e-books) because of your review of it.
Thanks for sharing your book Haul. I was trying to find some fantasy type books because I have never read any. This helped. Do you have any reviews on Hallie Rubenhold's book series. The First Book Mistress of My Fate..?
I recently bought The Girl of Fire and Thorns and I'm SO excited to read it :) I'm curious to see what you think of Walk on Earth a Stranger; I got the audiobook from the library and plan to listen to it soon
I picked up Girl at War by Sarah Novic and can I tell you how amazing it was. I have loved several historical fiction books recommended by Reagan and I picked this one up on a whim and it's incredible!
I saw The Goldfinch on book outlet and I just didnt move fast enough to get it! Ruby sounds like a read I would love. Exactly why I like watching UK booktubers their selection is so different! Great Haul
Yay Walter Moers! That is the only book by him that I haven't read, but I loooove the others, especially The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear. I highly recommend to pick that up also, it introduces the world of Zamonia quite well.
I read The Secret History by Donna Tartt last year, and absolutely loved it. Can't wait to read The Goldfinch. Never heard of City of Dreaming Books, but it sounds great.
About The City of dreaming books, it's a wonderful book! Walter Moers is such an unique author and his writing is like no other. I've read this book 2 years ago and I still remember it very well. I RECOMMEND this book to any book lovers out there, it's just amazing and beautiful and great story and you won't regret it !!
Thank you for introducing me to the Seven Realms series! Reading the last book at the moment and I love it! Thinking about reading the Heir Chronicles and Flamecaster this summer. Which should I begin with?
I am mostly a library person. I do own tons of books; but libraries are free, so they are your friends. Right now I have: -The Long Earth, by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter: Finished this just recently. And it got me out of my reading slump, WOW! -The Man In The High Castle, by Philip K. Dick: Currently reading -and Slaughterhouse-Five, by Kurt Vonnegut.
OMG, Regan, I had exactly the same issue with Fool's Assassin. I got it because it looked so cool and I also thought it was the 1st in the series... but I read the Assassin's Apprentice last month and it absolutely blew me away. So worth starting to read Robin Hobb's books. She's a master of fantasy.
My new May releases I picked up are trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan The crown by Kiera Cass And The Last Star by Rick Yancey. I've currently read the first two and so excited to read the last star!
I just bought The Goldfinch as well and put it on my summer TBR but am a little intimidated by it to be honest!! The Robin Hobb books are *amazing* ~ they are my all time favourite series but yeah, you do have to read them in order!! Worth it though :-)
Haha, I did the same thing just a month ago! I bought The Fool's Assassin thinking it's the first book in a trilogy... but thank goodness, I was able to return it because there was no way I was going to buy all the books that came before that one!
I just finished ACOMAF yesterday and I loved it so much. I was nervous at the end of ACOTAR because I didn't really like Tamlin but just ... ACOMAF did not disappoint whatsoever. Probably my favorite book I've read so far this year.
Aahh finally someone on Booktube that reads Walter Moers!! He is absolutely brilliant! "The 13 1/2 lives of Captain Bluebear" and "Rumo & his miraculous adventures" are my favourites by him. So excited to see what you think of his writing :)
The Secret History by Donna Tart is amazing. I've heard mixed things about her other books - if you don't love the Goldfinch don't be afraid to give the Secret History a go!
im reading a book called wonder struck which tells two peoples stories 50 years apart. one through words and one through illustrations. its great and a super fast read
I'm so so excited for Walk on Earth a Stranger! It sounds absolutely incredible I've not heard of The City of Dreaming Books before but it sounds super cool!
The only just released book I got was Hidden Oracle. I got a bunch of used books from the Salvation Army and 2nd Chances. One of those books was Game of Thrones! So excited to finally be able to read that.
I went bananas with buying books this month....thankfully it didn't get too expensive on account of the Mother's Day sale on bookoutlet.com but there alone I got 16 books. Oops...Anyway, so far of those, I have read one (I mean I've read other things this month but they were things I already had) and I freaking loved it! It was one of the "blogger friends" recommendations. Yes, I did pick up some of yours, but this was one of Maureen's. Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library!! I finished it yesterday and I almost wish I didn't because it was so much fun! It's middle grade and basically described as escape from a library designed by Willy Wonka. !!! I want to go to that library! Absolutely suggest you read it and it's still dirt cheap on bookoutlet.
I'm reading the second book in the Gentleman Bastard Sequence! You should read it! I absolutely loved the first one and I think it resembles some of the other best contemporary fantasy out there rn which is The Kingkiller Chronicle by Pat Rothfuss (which I know you like)
Hey Regan, are you not making a separate review for ACOMAF? I really wish you would. I want to hear what you thought about it in a very spoilery fashion. Please make one!!! P.S I love your videos.
I was totally on the fence about A Court of Thorns and Roses. Good to know that the second one might be better! You're so good at summarizing plot. It's always so clear and to the point, and I'm jealous because my plot summaries are a stumbling mess of nonsense :P
The only new book I got this month is "All the bright places" by Jennifer Niven and it's actually ironic because one of the main protagonists's, Violet, twin died (not a spoiler it's like in the 2nd chapter) and twin's name is Eleanor.
+oliwia i don't read YA so that's not my point, i'm just saying i follow a lot of channels that read a huge variety of books so just dig a bit deeper and you'll be able to find people who read books that are more to your taste
I ran into a similar problem with the Robin Hobb books. I still don't think I know where to start, but at least I only borrowed them from the library. It's okay though, we all make book buying mistakes. ;)
i recently picked up scarlet and winter by marrissa myer just tonote that i do have all of them now exept stars above and obviuosly cinder 2 more books to go and read with joy!
WALTER MOERS - YES PLEASE!! He is brilliant, his books are like fairytales for grown-ups, whimsical and witty with very peculiar characters. 'The city of dreaming books' is the first of a trilogy, I hope they are all translated yet. READ THEM ALL!! Also: the book is full of anagrams of real life authors and artists names, which you can guess while reading - it really is a book for booklovers
city of dreaming books YES! sooo good, all of his books are SO funny and interesting and written so well! If you like it you should totally read the first 13 1/2 lifes of captain bluebear as well ^-^
I got way too many books from the library haha! I've barely started reading them with The Phantom Tollbooth which I've read before but it's such a great book :) Before that I finished The Alchemist by Paulo Cohelo. It's a weird but still very insightful book which I have heard great and not so great things about. I liked it a lot! Although some times it seemed a little silly, the message of the book is really good :) I'm hoping to eventually acquire some of the books I see on your channel!
I picked up 4 books this month. The Crown by Kiera Cass, Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead, Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Maas, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I have already read The Crown and am starting Shadow Kiss! My favorite book I read this month is a manga, Cardcaptor Sakura Vol. 1 Omnibus! It was a throwback to when I watched the anime when I was younger and was the first anime I ever watched. Anybody else fans of Cardcaptor Sakura?? Also did you hear that CLAMP is making a sequel to CCSakura that's coming out early next month! I'm so excited! =)
You should get 'The Secret History' by Donna Tartt!! I read that a few weeks ago - it was my first Tartt experience - and i LOVED IT!!! One of the best adult lit novels I've ever read!
That was so funny when you couldn't described the last book, you were like 'oops' 😂 I love your videos! And I'm planning to read more books from your recommendation! Keep being awesome! :p
I actually just read Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb - the first book in that series - and LOVED it. I won't lie, it took a few chapters for me to really get into it but then I read the last 200 pages or so all in one go, it was incredible.
Ahh I got so many (6 books - oops) that I'm excited about. I finally got Snow Like Ashes, which I've been stoked about. But I'm super excited (but also nervous) about Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh -- nervous because I recently found out that it's only a duology soo yeah. (But it's signed, so YAY!) But another I'm intrigued by is Neverhome by Laird Hunt, it's about a woman who disguises herself as a man to fight in the Civil War, it has an average goodreads rating, but it sounds super interesting. The others are The Invasion of the Tearling (another Yay), A Paris Apartment, and The Hidden Oracle, cuz duh.
oooh city of dreaming books sounds super interesting!
I like the cover, it's lovely 😊
It's from my favourite german autor :D he has the most crazy ideas and his stories are just full of wit and creepy creatures! This one is part of a trilogy, which is also part of a much bigger universe created by Moers. If you want to read a book that will surprise over and over again, this is one of the best I can recommend :D
Yeeeees read it
so glad moers and his world has finally found his way to america! his books are so wonderful, amazing, stunning, fantastic! go read it and love it :)
Jesse, I think you would really like moers' writing! He's a cartoonist, so his lit is super whimsical and dark at times.
YAS! I love Parks and Rec!
THE CITY OF DREAMING BOOKS IS THE BEST. THE ABSOLUTE BEST.
Agree! :-)
Hi!! :) I am interested in reading the book! but I see that it's the 4th book in the Zamonia Series and I was reading the synopsis and they don't seem connected, do I need to read the three books beforehand or can I read The City of Dreaming Books as a stand alone ? Thanks!!

Added Eleanor to the TBR because I've been looking for another magical realism book since Ava Lavender. :) I recently picked up Gathering Darkness. I've been making my way through that one this week. Like you said, you got to love fantasy!
The City of dreaming books is quite strange and a bit slow but so so beautiful, I read it ages ago and absolutely adored it!
The city of dreaming books is amazing! So original and creative.
The City of Dreaming Books sounds so weird but so cool! Love love looove books with illustrations in them!
You got so many great books! I wish I could order from Bookoutlet but the shipping costs to the Netherlands are INSANE

They are not related, they just exist in the same world :)
Yay! Thank you!
Recently from my school's media center I picked up The Alchemyst by Michael Scott, Eon by Alison Goodman (which I'm currently reading and loving), The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, and The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss of course. I love all of the books from Zamonia! I really hope you enjoy it, and make sure you find his other writing!
Regan, The Goldfinch is amazing!!! If you like it you should definitely read her first novel, The Secret History - I think you would love it!

I'm reading Letters to the Lost which alternates between present (mostly) day London and WWII London. So good so far.
Haha, I did the same thing just a month ago! I bought The Fool's Assassin thinking it's the first book in a trilogy... but thank goodness, I was able to return it because there was no way I was going to buy all the books that came before that one!

you should do a book club thing for the goldfinch because its huge and intimidates me and reading it with people would be cool
I finished ACOMAF recently and I really enjoyed it! I need to get Trials of Apollo!
Yesterday my boyfriend bought me "alloy of law". I'm super excited to read it.
OMG The city of dreaming books is one of my favourite books ever! It's extremely interesting and weird, a bit scary but very unique!
I was totally on the fence about A Court of Thorns and Roses. Good to know that the second one might be better! You're so good at summarizing plot. It's always so clear and to the point, and I'm jealous because my plot summaries are a stumbling mess of nonsense :P

I feel like she is the only booktuber who isn't dumb. Everyone else just reads the same YA genre books. nothing knowledgable.
Wow that is so rude
+books for tea maybe kinda rude, but if we talk about those most popular booktubers, that's true :-)
how does reading YA make you dumb??
this comment was not only unnecessarily rude but also kind of ignorant.
there are actually quite a few booktubers who dont only read YA if you actually take the time to look...
+oliwia i don't read YA so that's not my point, i'm just saying i follow a lot of channels that read a huge variety of books so just dig a bit deeper and you'll be able to find people who read books that are more to your taste
The City of Dreaming Books sounds Fantastic though! I need to know your thoughts!! Review please??
I did the same thing with the Robin Hobb books with the exact book. Samantha at novelsandnonsense set me on the right path, though. Great haul!
The german version of the city of dreaming books is my favorite book ever! Hope you'll like it too :)
Is Tim Wynne Jones related to Diana Wynne Jones (author of Howl's moving castle)?
I've barely started reading them with The Phantom Tollbooth which I've read before but it's such a great book :)
Before that I finished The Alchemist by Paulo Cohelo. It's a weird but still very insightful book which I have heard great and not so great things about. I liked it a lot! Although some times it seemed a little silly, the message of the book is really good :)
I'm hoping to eventually acquire some of the books I see on your channel!
I just picked up Six of Crows today and I'm soooo excited to read it!
can you do a tbr pile video?
OH MY GOD THE GOLDFINCH IT IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Oh my God! One of the bests books I read last year!
oooh god i'm pretty sure you would love robin hobb assassin's apprentice !! it's awesome tbh.
I got the 3rd and 4th ToG books and a few others.
Have you read Unbroken? I'm currently reading it right now and I absolutely adore it! 😍
A court of mist and fury was so amazing!! Can't wait for the 3rd book!
Hi have you read the sudden appearance of Hope yet? Claire North does not disappoint!
That was so funny when you couldn't described the last book, you were like 'oops' 😂
I love your videos!
THE CITY OF DREAMING BOOKS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS EVER! Be exited! Walter Moers is a genius and you should check out his other books as well ;)
