    It's interesting to watch my one game) And yes: mustangs with AA blocks all missels and marksmans killed tham all. Spaming Rays on high mmr in a Standard not the best idea: with AA in the last rounds i lost all my fire power)

    Ok so after watching the video. Excellent job. I agree with your judgement on the grade. If the other guy did have a good enough econ to hard pivot into something else, it could have turned into a much closer game. Also forcing the Rays to get Armor Enhance was a great idea. Did not think about doing that kind of thing. All in all, excellent match and a great video. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    Used this to win a really close game. Opponent went in to Typhoons + Rays, I managed to counter with sledge to tank and break the Typhoons and AM mustangs to slow the ray, backed up with Marksmen to kill the rays. As soon as I clicked up the mustangs to AM I dealt back to back 2k+ round wins.

    AM is a very interesting tech. Their strat relies on upgrading the rays to get a lot of HP. They can then get the barrage tech but I think while they spend like 700 on that you can buy boats. Also that guy has bad vulcan placement, putting them near his flanks.

      Rays can eat boats too. It depends on the level and tech of the units. A higher lvl ray army can take out boats easy.

      And the boats have no tech that is really good against rays.

      I'm not very good with Boats. I'd probably stick to Marksman or Phoenix. But if you can hit them first, Boats do take them out pretty easily. Just have to make sure you're the one that hits first :D

    Yeah, AM on Mustangs is a required Tech since Rays were added. I haven't touched 1v1 in a good while and mostly play FFA and Phantom spam (double digit numbers) is incredibly common there can be hard to stop. You need all the AM you can get and pairing Mustangs with Phoenixes can be effective. If offered, I tend to always pick Farseer specialist as a hedge not just against Rays, but also against Boat and Wasp spam. They also pair nicely with Mustangs and Phoenixes in FFA. It's one of the best workhorse units in that mode IMO.

      Burst mode rays tear apart am mustangs in no time, ir wasp swarm. Shield tech counters marksman, phoenix. In 1v1 ray is better as a boat. Your best bet is the farseer, if you can get them.

      I am terrible at FFA. I can see Mustangs and Phoenix doing well. Farseers are good because of the cheap EMP and being able to take down their shields quickly. I personally am not sold on Burst like Kedzsin is though. I don't think it's very good against AM. I just think AM isn't good against it. That is, if they go Burst to counter AM and not to burst down larger units, it's not going to be very effective.

      Spam and cheese dominate and the AI waves, particularly experimental boss waves, are completely broken. Tactics only marginally play into it, and it's always a bit of a toss up who will come out ahead. Luckily it is mostly still ridiculously fun, if you don't care about MMR (you shouldn't in FFA) and if you just try out fun comps. They really need to start to show FFA some more TLC though. I saw in Season 2 they are going to add some new things to it.

    Fwiw I've found Sandworms with the aerial tech completely shut out phantom rays.
    It's pricey, but it's fantastic if an opponent over-commits in air

      I was actually joking about AA Worms being a good counter with someone recently but I've never tried it myself. I went Wraiths one time a while ago and AA Worms absolutely thrashed it, so I can see it being good against Rays. And in testing it was decent. Sometimes it was able to hit all three at once, but usually one-shotting two at once.

    i also enjoy fortified a lot. It gives you some interesting break points actually with the extra HP, especially if you get +1 on defense. Like Arclights not killing crawlers with similar levels, or lvl 3 Sledges not being oneshot by a lvl 1 scorpions are the ones that come to mind immediately. but since it seems to improve base HP it kinda scales with the levels as well.

      Yeah, for sure. I think Crawlers not getting one-shot when you get Def Enhancement is a pretty big deal.

    I've found anti-air assault marksmen work really well. They don't get 1 shotted themselves and take out 1-2 rays with each shot. Sacrificing the range also isn't a problem because the rays are cloaked anyways.

      I still need to try that out. I don't run Assault Mode though so I'd need to switch some things around.

    ouch this hurts my soul to see the rays taken out so easily. But at the same time i have learned to pivot out of rays when i see counters appear.

    thoughts on what the ray player could have done. burst fire would make the AM get overwhelmed even if the rays are less effective against the board. oil bomb would attract the AM and I haven't seen it get popped by them so if you pair it with some fire like with those vulcans he went at the end that could maybe have helped. otherwise he could have shifted his focus more on the ground and just invested less into the rays. even if he didn't sell them because of the tech shifting to sledges or scorps might have helped his board a bit.

      I personally don't think Burst was the way to go. I think you are spot on with oil though. That would raised an interesting problem to deal with.

      @@WhoopedGG I agree Burst wouldn't be ideal. but if you don't run oil it might mean that you launch so many that the AMS doesn't get them all. it is probably just doubling down on bad when you need to figure out how to counter the board with another tool in that case.

    I like fort spec too and disagree with the amount of flak it gets. That extra health makes defensive upgrade and techs go a little bit further and it gives you enough of an edge to swing the outcome of a round. Particularly if your opponent doesn't respect the choice. Makes chaff even more chaffey too.

    Ray is a bad enemy, becouse it has many techs to fight its counter units. Shield counters marksman, phoenix. Armor counters mustangs. Burst mode counters am. If someone has burst mode, shield and armor on rays it is very hard to fight them. I think the best single counter is farseer, but it is a drop unit.

      It has a lot of good tech for sure. I've had someone go Burst against me and I still won because they were sitting around too long and got picked off. It can counter anti-missile, but unless you have units they need to burst down, I don't think it's a good counter.

      @@WhoopedGG My experince is, that burst mode can be used against close units (defensive player) or chaff as well. If you make rays behind each other, the incomming missile waves do continuous damage. But you are a much better player than i ( 1450 mmr) am, so i wont question what you say.
      I think the new raiden unit will be a good ray counter.

      @@WhoopedGG After trying it out, i'm a bit more impressed by it. I'll have to try it out more, I just remember trying to use it against storms and being fairly appalled by how it performed XD
