Can I join the Alpine Fault Net with a mag loop and 20W?

  • It's the first Sunday of the month when I recorded this so it's Alpine Fault Net time! I've told you about the Alpine Fault Net before so you know what it's about and the format of the net itself. This time I try to join the net using a magnetic loop antenna and the G90. By anyones estimate this should be a bit of a stretch given that the control station is over 450km away.
I'm a big fan of loop antennas but they are a bit of a pain to tune. I really should work on automating that part of the process. They are, however, relatively easy to build. This one is only 40cm about the ground so it will be surprising if we can sign in ok, and if we do, what sort of signal report will we get??
Sorry about the section where it's completely impossible to see what is happening. I give a better picture along with a highly inaccurate description at the end. As you will see, this is a pretty ugly loop antenna with minimal engineering input. It's very simple but it seems to work.
