Thank you very helpful suggestions for reading and study. I have done some preaching over the years but my Gospel ministry has been into schools as a substitute teacher for many years. Similarly I read so many of these sorts of books, they are very encouraging and upbuilding. My 'desert island book' for some years now has been Greg Beale's The Temple and the Church's Mission. A wonderful study of the connections between the Tabernacle/Temple and the Garden in Eden, in the great Don Carson edited series NSBT of course. Like you I have found this series really excellent reading. Thank you, great stuff.
Greg Beale is one of my favorite New Testament scholar's. I recently bought one of Beale's new books titled, 'Union with the Resurrected Christ: Eschatological New Creation and New Testament Biblical Theology'. One (Christian) can't go wrong reading Beale's books! Yes the series NSBT are very useful in studying the New Testament. Thank you for sharing and may the Lord bless!
This song is covered by Uncle Tupelo on the album March 16-20, 1992 which I'm pretty sure my dad (Jonny) had on cassette tape! He used to listen to KPFT in Houston to all the college music.
Do you fear this man's invention that they call atomic power? Are we all in great confusion, do we know the time or hour When a terrible explosion may ring down upon our land Leaving horrible destruction blotting out the works of man Are you ready for that great atomic power? Will you rise and meet your Savior in the end? Will you shout or will you cry when the fire rains from on high? Are you ready for that great atomic power? There is one way to escape and be prepared to meet the Lord Give your heart and soul to Jesus, He will be your shield and sword He will surely stand beside and you'll never taste of death For your soul will fly to safety and eternal peace and rest Are you ready for that great atomic power? Will you rise and meet your Savior in the end? Will you shout or will you cry when the fire rains from on high? Are you ready for that great atomic power? There's an army who can conquer all the enemy's great bands It's a regiment of Christians guided by the Savior's hand When the mushroom of destruction falls and all it's fury great God will surely save His children from this awful, awful fate Are you ready for that great atomic power? Will you rise and meet your Savior in the end? Will you shout or will you cry when the fire rains from on high? Are you ready for that great atomic power?
Jonny, the other day I looked at your blog and something you said resonated with me. Claiming that it is only God that gets you through the day. It made me contemplate the sovereignty of God. Then as I read through the Psalms I also see the absolute sovereignty of God. At this point, I realize I too need God to get through the day. As for the world around me, America is clearly under judgement. I felt obligated to point out that the latest psycho was not a man but a biological woman who pretended to be a man. More end times madness. Come Lord Jesus!
I am still confused about who that mass killers was-male or female. I am assuming the killer was a woman who wanted to be a man. Yes we are under divine judgment. Come Lord Jesus! blessings
Here is a list of the books I have by Ben Witherington in my library- www.librarything.com/catalog/bookmountain?&collection=-1&deepsearch=Ben%20witherington
It is a blessing to know as a Christian we have God's Word the Bible and that He delights in revealing Himself to His children/a knowledge that is transformative-blessings
Greetings Johnny, I enjoy your presentations and comments , you have quite an extensive book collection, do you keep notes on your books as well? it's very relaxing to have such a blessing available. Do you see no hope for America?, what of the church if they humble themselves and pray..just a thought. I thank you for sharing and keep posting your videos. :) be safe
Do I see a hope for America? Some folks pray for a Revival to sweep the world. I personally think we are headed for destruction. We need to prepare for the Last Day. Come quickly Lord Jesus! I do write down stuff in my paper diary when I am reading-I read years ago if you write down stuff it stays in your memory. I have been reading the same kind of books as a Christian going on 53 years so I am basically refreshing my memory or just meditating on God's Word-storing up my heart and mind with heavenly Bread/God's Word. Thank you for the comment and may the Lord bless.
I do not have any favorite study on the Gospel of Luke or on the Acts of the Apostles (NT). I do keep in my Main Study this volume on Luke and Acts 'A Theology Of Luke And Acts: God's Promised Program, Realized for All Nations' [Biblical Theology Of The New Testament] by Darrell L. Bock. Also check out Bock's commentaries on Luke and Acts. peace
'Canon, Covenant and Christology: Rethinking Jesus and the Scriptures of Israel' by Matthew Barrett 'Dominion and Dynasty: A Theology of the Hebrew Bible' by Stephen G. Dempster 'Adopted into God's Family: Exploring a Pauline Metaphor' by Trevor J. Burke All the books in the New Studies In Biblical Theology are worth having in ones library.
Jonny you are a true bibliophile, I remember one of your prior videos where you smelled a book. I enjoy doing that too, my wife and son mock me, but we mock what we don’t understand don’t we? It reminded me of a biography of Thomas Jefferson by Saul Passover, I don’t remember the exact line but he said he went into bookstores and held each book gently and looked at it with reverence
How am I doing tonight? Right now I am tired and plan to go to bed. I usually read before going to bed. Tonight we are expecting thunderstorms. Since I am deaf in my left ear and I won't hear the thunder or the hail hitting our house/roof. How are you doing there in China?
So just let me say this. Duet 4 v 2 to Rev 22 verse 18 19. One of the major reasons we have so many denominations is that someone thinks he or she can add to and take from even giving Jesus a birthday party. We can’t even keep his commandments as it is. By the way no snow is predicted and it is March and March is always winter.
I'm curious why you think a person should buy new Christian books? I most often get them used and have no issues, although I only buy them in good condition.
I personally can not find the Christian books I want used. I do agree there are a lot used Christian books used but the ones I would personally buy most Christians would not buy or read. I have been a Christian for over 50 years and most Christians read general popular Christian literature and not Christian literature that are directed towards biblical scholars. In the Past I have bought old Christian books but now most classic Christian literature is being reprinted for example the 17th cent. English Puritans and classic Reformed theological books. Once in awhile I find an interesting used Christian book in a thrift store. My wife buys a lot of used Christian books but I find them too be too light-not deep or geared basic Christian knowledge-simple which is fine for an average evangelical Christian. I tend to be more interested in Christian books for scholars. peace
@@doctor1alex Many years ago I bought a lot of Banner of Truth Books. I buy most of the Reformed books these days from Reformation Heritage Books Grand Rapids MI. Many years ago I use to get in the mail The Banner of Truth magazine and when possible Banner of Truth Theological Conferences.
My wife and I have a time of devotions in the morning where we read something right now we are reading 'Calvin's 'Institutes' and then we have a time of prayer. Before we go to bed at night we close the day in prayer. We both live each day in a state of prayer-silent prayer-mental prayer-heart groans-we are in mystical union with Christ In a state of unceasing prayer. I tend to read and then write and then ponder what I have been reading I then write and then I read and then I ponder. I tend to read in a contemplative state. And I am constantly praying when I reading to be taught by God the Holy Spirit. Most of my non-Christian reading is to learn about the world I find myself exiled in. peace
I’m surprised with all the biblical books read you have very little Bible knowledge. The Bible speaks nothing of Easter Not good Friday. We are to take the Lord supper each week but no specials Easter whatever you call it. Are you adding to the Bible?
I see nothing wrong for Christians to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. I do not observe any special days. To me if at this time of the year Christians want to rejoice in the Death of Christ and His Resurrection I am not going to condemn them. To me I am very thankful the Lord died for me and that He rose from the dead and is now reigning in Glory.
