It feels wrong to me that UA-camrs keep promoting SafetyWings. Their reviews are horrible and first hand experiences seem really bad if you do your research. I wish we'd see some honest reviews of health insurance options in Thailand.

From a Navy retiree, thank you for your service. I just moved here this last month for the next adventure in my life. Good luck to all three of you. Have you checked to see if there are any military organizations there. There is a VFW here in Pattaya, I will attend my first meeting there next week. Do you know about the APO mailbox you can get there in Bangkok? I will apply for mine once my retirement visa arrives in the next ten days or so. I will learn more about that any other things next week I hope. Just another resource for us to use. Take care.

We have started to save to retire from the farm, and possibly live on rental income, I'd really appreciate you go LIVE and talk about how to earn passive income online and retire comfortably, let’s say $1M.

It really isn’t about how much you save, it’s about how you manage your money. Whether you work to earn income or invest, it still boils down to income vs expenses, so yeah you may look into financial advisors for a strategy that suits your timing.
I totally agree, I'm 60 and newly retired with about 1.2 million outside retirement funds, no debt, and very small dollars in retirement funds compared to my portfolio balance over the past 3 years till date. tbh, the role of the invt-advisor can only be overlooked, not denied. just have to do your research in finding a reputable one.
@@carssimplified2195 mind sharing info on the adviser that assisted you? been saving for pension since age 18 - company scheme. along the way I hit higher tax, so I added to my company pension with a SIPP (tax benefits) I'm 46 now and would love to grow my finance more aggressively, there are a few cars I still wish to drive, a few mega holidays, etc.
My Financial adviser is ‘’JULIE ANNE HOOVER’’ she’s highly qualified and experienced in the financial market. She has extensive knowledge of portfolio diversity and is considered an expert in the field. I recommend researching her credentials further. She has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market

My suggestions for them if they want to reduce food costs: shop at Macro. Starbucks is not local, find a good local coffee shop.
Enrol your daughter into a expat kids Thai cooking class, she loves cooking.
3000 USD could easily be reduced to 2000 USD.

Here is an old man with 73years of experience advice, pay off your retirement home before you retire. You have to own it free and clear in a area of the country with low land taxes. Then get you a reliable financial consultant/ wealth manager to help cordinate your finances better. If that is the only thing you do you will be able to retire with social security and be ok. I did just that and it worked for me. It continues to work for me to this very day. The world goes crazy I can still afford my taxes (very low) I still have a place to live. I also garden and live simply but that is for another day.
Thanks for this old timer. I’m 54 and my wife 50 we are both newly retired with over $3 million in net worth and no debts. Spending time with our children and grandchildren! Currently living smart and frugal with our money. We also moved out of a high property tax, high crime city into a peaceful small town! No longer putting blames on FED for our misfortunes. Saving and investing lifestyle in the stock market with the assistance of a licensed broker who we met at a financial seminar made it possible for us this early, even till now we earn weekly.

Good inspiration here. I was flying solo in BKK for $2k/mo. $400 rent and did quite a lot of partying, steaks, fancy sea food, etc..
Their family is so lovely! Especially their daughter, a natural born presenter!

This was a great video. As someone who spent 8 years in BKK, it is frustrating to see all those “living on 1000/month” videos. This is much more realistic.
Those are backpack bums who live in cheap-ass dive joints and room above a bar-type thing. lol.
Some people just budget better man. I can definitely understand not wanting to have to think about budgeting and just spending what you want though.

I’m not going to move to a country like Thailand to spend the same amount I do in Canada
My wife taught English language at Thai government schools for eighteen years before moving to the U.S. The more skills that you have the more work will be assigned to you for the same pay. She could type so after teaching all day she did the secretarial work. The teachers had to rotate being security guards on the weekends. Teach at a private school.

Strange why they are not eating more local. Local Thai food street food slowly introduce the kid to traditional Thai food. They are making it more expensive than it should be Grab is expensive and dining out can be in malls. They should eat at food courts so much vairety under one roof
Strange but they said something about it in the beginning so how is it strange? The daughter does not like spicy and what does it matter if they are doing fine
I just think they need a little time to acclimate. Kids are picky, but they’ll get used to it.
They said they've only been there 6 months, so still finding their groove.

Great video. I am always thinking of my upcoming retirement budget in just a few years and nice to see real examples. I always worry I’m not budgeting enough but to see their lifestyle at ~$3k is awesome.
3K to survive in Chitlom or Sathorn, no weekend staycations, no party, no shopping (Central Embassy, they mall next door, literally sell Lambo and can easily pay 500 usd for a dinner - it's a place for ultrawealthy Asian), btw their area is now going to be remodelled as Al Maneeya (from Al Manar, the Light) since is mostly Kuwaiti, Saudi and Emirati moving there: 3K will be soon below poverty line

What a great position to be in with a 3k pension at their age. On top of that, If they ever get bored of retirement, they can always start some project or do some type of part time work which would only increase their income. I wish them well on their journey!
very hard for foreigner/expats to start a business or work in Thailand(unless you marry, ot take on Thai partner but they get 51% controlling interest in the business by law)), many hurdles to jump or palms to grease. You wouldnt need to work, it's why you come here. 3K is equivalent to 20K US for similar or better lifestyle here in Thailand. You live in the country, and it's like 30K!

This video is so good. You really are a great interviewer. I would love to see some more of these. Maybe some single older guys on a retirement visa. And a variety of places (Bangkok, chaing mai, or an island). And people that are in country anywhere from 6-month to 5 years.
Nice family. A lot of opportunity to to reduce costs, seems to still be living more faring than Thai but each to their own. I suspect that a year from now their routine may be a bit more localized. Regardless, I love their decision, appreciate their service and wish them a bountiful life, full of adventure!

Since 1998 when i first arrived to Thaianld i 've been a tourist, a husband and father now single retiree 🙏🏾 I've lived in Jomtien Beach Chonburi, Lived in a village in Korat , Enjoyed visiting and short stay living in some of Everywhere in Thailand , But Only Now as of this year exploring idea "living in Krungtep " as my home Until ... 🙏🏾 I can honestly say Its changed alot over the last 25 yrs , if your're New person to the experience You'll love it 😀❤
As for Budget ? That depeneds on Entirely on the way you want to live ,We as expats , or very experienced Semi retireed lving in Thaiand over the years , Can only Say "You get what you pay for 🙏🏾 " If you want to live cheaply , That'll depend on your level of tolerance for being without those Amenities ,That made you comfortable back in your home Country🙏🏾
If you want "modest" but modern comfort and have a decent social life 🙂 A Budget of Can & US $1900 Per mon . Or 1650, Euros and 1450 UK will do , But To live No doubtly Comfortable , A budget of $2400 +Can.& USD per mon. To at ($3K + " Per month ) is where You have a LOT less limitations on Your lifestyle 🙏🏾

Well said! And some of our eating habits are definitely due to excitement of being here that could be avoided later when things settle down. I love Thai food but couldn’t eat it EVERYDAY as people are suggesting. There’s so much interesting yummy food here from all over the world! But I agree, you definitely have to make sure to use self control and beware of all temptations that come with Thailand.
I just stayed in Bangkok for the whole month of June. Spent 2500. Enjoyed my self well. Not much drinking though, and no partying.
@seantaylor4107 - spending on vacation is much different from spending to live there. Someone living in Bangkok would not be visiting many places within one month.

Great video Chris! I live in Bangkok on about half of that, not including medical expenses. If I were able to double my budget, I’d upgrade my apartment, eat at more restaurants than street food and take taxis more frequently. I’d also include some travel to other areas in Thailand. Great inspiration for those looking to move to Bangkok like I was finally able to do last month!

Yes, how much is medical?
@@Dime333 I budget about $100/month for medical but I'm getting treatment from a specialist at Vejthani, one of the best hospitals in the country. Aside from that, my medicine runs me about $15/month.
@@Dime333 - It's actually cheaper to pay out-of-pocket for non-life-threatening procedures. Many expats only have medical insurance that covers catastrophic events such as major accidents, cancer, heart attacks...etc. Most simple treatments would cost about $30 USD at a mid-level hospital. In the States, I paid $150 for an eye infection, and this didn't include the antibacterial eye drops! I have medical insurance but I did not meet the deductible of $2K USD so I had to pay the full amount! Oh, I forgot, I had to pay a $50 office visit before I could see a doctor in addition to the $150 plus cost of drugs. The US federal government has let the insurance and medical industry run amok with no-cap pricing! Hospitals can charge whatever they want since there is no limit on each procedure. Hospitals get away with this because they know the insurance companies will pay the high-cost bill, and then the insurance companies pass the high cost back to the consumer as a very high monthly premium.
What do you think a reasonable budget would be for a couple who want to live in a neighborhood close to public transportation. Thank you 😊

What a sweet family. My daughter lives in Tampa and I know her costs are very quite high and she is a frugal woman who would rather go a mountain bike ride than a shopping trip, just personal preference no dig to shopping trips. Like one of your commenters below I do spend more on travel because taking advantage of being in S.E. Asia to get to other countries is a passion of mine but living expenses are comparable to their budget. Great in depth video and thanks to that family for sharing some very valuable information with us!

Im retired Navy(and receiving VA disability) and soon to retire from the post office. I'm a single guy and thinking life is going to be pretty good retiring in Thailand after seeing this video. If a family of 3 is able to make it on $3,000 a month I DEFINITELY will be able to being single😃

@@boatswainsm8 eating out is so cheap there,cheaper than at home and no waist. Food, housing and transportation are cheap. girls and drinking are not. But you can find a nice girl and support her family instead, after a while. Thai people are fun loving and nice !

I’m on Safety Wing and recently I filed a claim for an emergency procedure abroad. I have to say the experience has been rather disappointing. The claims procedure is very time-consuming and mine is going nowhere so far. It’s been 3 months since and I still receive no updates. Just getting more frustrated by the day. The CS agents are no help at all. Everytime I call, they just tell me to wait and be patient. So ya, I wouldn’t recommend Safety Wing..
Happy family. Jai is very cute. She seems to be a very happy child. I think the most important thing for parents is to see their child being able to adjust and happily live in a foreign land. Btw, I am Thai and I love when Cuddle speaks Thai. She can speak Thai clearly with sweet tone. Thais will love her and she will do just fine when she gets teaching job. Jai can also get into Thai schools. Most schools now offer English speaking only class with native English speaking teachers. She doesn't have to go to international schools which is expensive. Hope things are going well with them in Thailand.

Great video again Chris! It's good to see a family living on somewhat of a normal budget and not having to count every penny they have to live on. I'm sure in time they will probably change their lifestyles when they reach their 50's. To put things in perspective, my wife and I will be retiring in a few years in Thailand from Hawaii. Our budget will be a conservative $5K a month by then (We spend way more than that now living conservatively in Hawaii).

yes, Tampa is extremely expensive. We paid $500 a month just for car insurance 2 vehicles & 3 drivers. Mortgage was over $2000 per month. People think that Florida is cheap................ well it is not. They will do good in Thailand. I will be visiting next years & maybe staying. Good luck to the 3 of you!!!!!! Love Chris too!!!!

I have about $3400 per month. Being single. So I guess I would be ok there. I would prefer to live in Bangkok. More to see. Do. So this video is helpful. I have lived in different parts of Asia already. For years. The one thing I know is that it’s much easier to live there as a single person (man). It is. Hope the best though for this family.
