I just got a remote help desk job with no experience in IT. I recently graduated from WGU with a Bachelors in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. I have CompTIA certs ranging from A+ to PenTest+ along with 2 cybersecurity projects on my resume. I plan to stay here for a year and move on, hopefully the job market is better then.
nice job.
@@KevtechITSupport thank you, your help desk playlist was a big help too... I was able convey different things I did within Active Directory which helped a lot I think
Congratulations on your new job as well as your degree from WGU. Sounds like you have a good solid plan.
I am a student in the IT program at WGU and it’s very encouraging to learn about other people success I’m very happy for you
Hey, I am a recent graduate too and looking out for IT support jobs. Can you share your linkedin?
@@allisonb9072 thank you i appreciate it, keep going!
For all the ladies and gentlemen out there that are looking to get into IT.
Kevin can give you all this information in the world but if you're not willing to put in some work of your own off hours to learn.
As you can see Kevin stresses this In a lot of his Videos. But if you're not willing to do the work he says waste his breath.
Just remember everybody can do this job especially in today's world. You just have to get started with the basics. And then it all stems from there period you can go anywhere you want as long as you learn a basics first. Never give up.
Create a substack account and repost I.T. articles to reflect current trends and interest. This can be used to showcase your uniqueness and further set yourself apart from others.
Thanks
Kevin, thank you for another great video. I am in the process of rebranding myself so that I can start in IT. I definitely need to work on my résumé and LinkedIn profile. I do have a list of projects that I will be doing to put on my résumé for experience in addition to my A+, currently working on getting my network+.
This video is right on time and as usual right on point With accurate knowledgeable and wise advice. ❤
I got your IT support and helpdesk course on Udemy, will be completing it as part of my rebranding and learning process.
What’s the course called
What is the name of this course
You can find my course under Kevin apolinario
alot of great tips, thank you kev!
Hi Kevin I’m transitioning into tech I not to long ago passed Comptia security + like you said in this video, it has been a challenging job market
I’m trying to grasp’s on the best way to practice at home due to my lack of experience I hear what people say online about building experience on your own but haven’t been able to visualize it and put it together for myself any and all advice welcomed
@@mk006thst yeah. You can build a home lab using virtual box, vmware, or throw something in the cloud using gcp, aws, azure.
Kevin this is a great and useful tip. I think one of the major reasons why the job market slows down is because we are close to the general election period.
Omg I need this right now 😅
Thank you for mentioning the google cert that was very helpful to hear in this video! I think this is one of my favorite videos- great outline of points and advice! Love that you mentioned to have two separate resumes! Makes a lot of sense. I have been looking at my local libraries for the COMP TIA book to read, but they do not have it, is there another good place to read up on it? And do you have an example of an IT portfolio in your videos? I understand an artist's portfolio as that is what I studied, but visually not sure what an IT portfolio is. Great content as always! Many thanks for posting!
You should look at my website for help with homelabs/project ideas. I also have comptia study guides in there for A+. kevtechitsupport.com/helpdesk-getting-started-1
@@KevtechITSupport Will do thank you! Can't wait to read up on it and study it! With your home labs do you work cross platform from Mac to PC? Or just PC?
@SCANLON_ARTISTRY it works better on windows. It won't work on Mac properly unless you use Microsoft azure and download windows remote desktop from Apple store.
@@KevtechITSupport Good to know thank you!🙂
got udemy course, thanks gives me an edge
Which course the A+ comptia one ?
Any tips on where to take the comptia A+ cert test? Online? In person? Vouchers? Any info is greatly appreciated, thank you
I did it in person. I don't like doing it at home. Too many distractions and you can get disqualified easily. You have to register in Pearson.
I understand that the A+ exam is a very desired one, but just wondering if pursuing the CCNA will be more of help than it.
@@user-tj4bk3mt1t ccna more for network admin jobs
im looking for a entry level it help desk job im currently finishing up the google it support certificate. I have a bunch of customer service experience would that be enough to land a help desk role? or would i need to get an A+/NET+/SEC+ Im based in california thanks!
Customer service experience does help when it comes to working IT Support/Helpdesk. If you have a solid resume with some nice project works using homelab you may be able to land a job with those job titles I just mentioned. Having the A+ increases your chances of landing those same jobs. It will be a lot harder to get a job without that cert.
@@KevtechITSupport appreciate you will work on that a+ aswell after im done and see from there
I am also wondering as I have been reading up on LinkedIN headlines, if you're studying for the COMP TIA, in essence being a student and trying to get into IT, how do you present that on your LinkedIN profile, is it wrong to say "aspiring student studying IT?" Or is there a better way to phrase it?
I don't recommend saying aspiring student. What you can do is look at other LinkedIn profiles as examples.
@@KevtechITSupport Will do thank you :)
Just recently saw a comment that you have a course on udemy for it support, would you say that course is more in depth that your homelab playlist ?
@@cjmurray7959 homelab is not on that course. It covers other stuff
@@KevtechITSupport so would you recommend completing both?
@@cjmurray7959 you can still get a job with just doing homelabs and fixing your resume.
Also im in the process of learning A+ core 1 and core 2 as well as network+ and security+ would that be sufficient for my resume and application.
Yes
It's one thing to get the certification it's another thing to apply in a real world experience.
So now that you have that certification period now I have to put it to work period. This is now where the experience part will come into play PERIOD if you Don't have any experience you have to get it from somewhere.
This is the part of the video where Kevin is talking about doing some home LabsLabsAnd putting to work what you have learned so far.
The rest comes with experience. Learning from books and videos are one thing seeing in real life troubleshooting situations is totally different.
I've been doing it now for almost 14 I learn things every single day. And that's what makes this job fun.
Do something for ios and mac

Hi! Thank you for this video. I am currently a freelance Wordpress support. I am no developer and instead, I mainly build and maintain WordPress sites using page builders and some HTML & CSS and some jQuery. I tried to learn JavaScript but it's not clicking for me. I still want to work and get into tech, is there an IT job wherein I don't need to program? Thank you for your response.

@@KevtechITSupport Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it. Do you have recommendations on what course/s I can take for IT support?

Which IT support course is best? I see different ones. Can i learn it from youtube and/or you? Also im an american living in africa how could i get a job? Remote and global?
Comptia a+ is the go too for IT Support. People use professor messer/Mikey Meyers to passed it.
What is your experience in IT
That too. Are you new in IT or do you have experience?
@@stevensitsupport I'm new to IT
@@dennicodykes9 What kind of work did you do before is this your first job you're going for or did you do something before this.
The job market sucks. I’m an IT Manager / Sys admin and I’m having trouble finding another job (trying to relocate). And I have a few years experience. Hopefully the market makes big improvements when Trump gets releected.
I’m a cloud engineer and feel what you’re going through. But That’s not how the job markets works. Presidents never have and never will dictate the job market. Corpos that do enough lobbying do.
It called a recession
If that's the case. Why are people still getting jobs training with me or getting jobs in my regular discord?
Also too you have to remember about where you live period it's all about location location. sometimes you can get those remote jobs but they're very far and in between.
@@stevensitsupport so it's very difficult to get remote jobs? Because right now I'm living in africa.what would be the best way for me to go forward? What can I do now?
That's a very good question. Maybe you could catch on with some manage service provider. As far as the country you are living in right now I don't really know the answer to that question. maybe Kevin would have something more input on that.
@@dennicodykes9 you need some sort of sponsorship or apply for jobs in your local area.
