Look at time 9:09
You can see a type of pulley has been rigged between the two arms of the holder. A rope has been threaded from one side to the other and then down to the lever. The lever then pulls downward, creating tension, and because the pulley forms an inverted ‘L’ shape (90-ish degrees) at the top, it brings the arms together or let’s them pull apart.
Or so I think... 🤔

Serious question. Wouldn’t solid wood have been better...? Was there a specific reason you used composite wood...?
Thanks! Solid wood sometimes twists, so I used composite wood, which has less twisting.

Всё понял, кроме работы зубчатого механизма, чего-то не хватает в видео, по чертежам тоже не ясно.
