As a daughter of a Vietnam combat vet who the VA calls their poster boy for PTSD, I can tell you that this is somewhat typical. My dad would not talk about his experience unless he was drunk, which was every night. At 3 years old I had to sit with him all night watching war movies on TV. Reliving his experience was a ritual that replayed constantly and I was the one he dumped it on. My mother worked 2, sometimes 3 jobs so that she was never home and wouldn’t have to endure his abuse. As you can imagine I have severe complex PTSD because of my father’s PTSD. He was just a kid when he was thrown in the sht, Agent Orange raining down on them, seeing things done to not only humans but animals as well. Doing things that he would have never done because he had to do as he was told. You think of an 18 year old you think that is a kid. But that is how old he was when all this happened to him. And then when his turn was over they just put him on a plane and sent him home and said thank you for your service and didn’t give him any treatment for what he went through. There was no psychological treatment for them at that time. I’m grateful that now he has a good social life with his VA brothers but he still gets drunk every night and still replays the ritual.

I used to work at Comcast going house to house attic to attic. The stuff like your saying is sadly more common place then people realize.

Sometimes when people come into the same room as the light they want to shed that dark thing within. You make them feel safe.

I suffer from CPTSD not from war but from being trafficked for 10 years as a child and teen.I now work in the anti-trafficking movement helping minors who have been trafficked. This man sounds like he felt safe talking with you about what happened and needed to just talk about it. I’m so thankful you listened. I think people can sense others who have been through trauma so to speak. He may have sensed that you would understand. People open up to me quite a lot. I have even had a older lady weep in my arms when I hugged her. She had needed that hug desperately she explained. Trauma is hard to overcome but it can definitely be done. Wishing and praying for Healing ❤️‍🩹 for anyone suffering from trauma PTSD and /or PTSD. Blessings

I'm sorry that nonsense happened to you. My wife and I can't be there to walk our kids to the bus, so we pay a neighbor to let them hang out at her house for 30 minutes in the morning then she walks them herself...even though alot of people mock us I think it's worth it.

You might just have something about you that makes people drawn to open up to you. Happens to me too. Sometimes nowadays it’s me doing the dumping but I’ve gotten much better at discerning who and when LOL.

Honestly I was OEF as QA for the EA 6B Prowler Q-1 BANSHEE squadron. I didn't do anything like my sisters and brothers... I didn't shoot at anyone...nothing just made sure maintaining standards according to the 00-25-100... in usa working for Comcast almost been shot and stabbed and watched someone die....so I never share in return.

@PoorSmellyYeti now your not alone there's just a lot less of us then them. I wear it as a badge of honor. If strangers are willing to divulge personal info and feel comfy doing so it's because we put of a good vibe. You can always walk off or tell them to stop also if ud like.

Your probably highly empathic, it's happened to me most of my life. Some times they will say at the end I don't know why I told you that. It's extremely weird when I'm at an event, I try to walk with crazy looking people 😂keeps them away. I'm afraid that one day someone is gonna tell me about a murder they committed and then have to kill me cuz they told me🤷‍♀️🤣worst case scenario 😂 with war vets tho his soul met with yours and decided you were good energy to lay his burden down, he needed to get it off his chest. Brush it off as best you can, prepare yourself for the next one. I asked my dad about that incidents and asked if he killed children the same way, he almost died looking at me no verbal answer could come out but in his eyes I got my answer, as my mom almost beat me for asking, I was little and they couldn't figure out how I knew about that, which I didn't know myself, ghost stories🤷‍♀️ 😂🤷‍♀️

Nobody can think for themselves these days.
So when they find someone that has critical thinking skills, they are hoping they found someone that can at least try to understand and not completely brush them off like 99 percent of people these days.

Think of how our society doesn’t value men that are aren’t black or gay. He probably has nobody to talk to about this and if he did they would respond like you or worse. If he was black or gay he could fall back on that and people would accept him. Imagine sacrificing so much for this country and being traumatized only to come home and be called the bad guy and looked at weird. That guy was in the right 100% and you were in the wrong I’m sorry.

I must have presented my question wrong, I was confused why people tell me( a complete stranger )about dark things for no reason. Don't apologize for an opinion friend. I wasn't putting this out there for any type of slander towards my brothers and sister veterans. I don't know what to do is my point, I have been through far less with no idea how to help. Every time it happens they always just walk away. What's the way to handle it?

@@PoorSmellyYeti it sounds like you genuinely want an answer and I respect that. If I were to guess I would say these people are seeking acknowledgment or solace. We glorify certain sins as a society and demonize others. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with love and genuine kindness though but the reason for that gets deep. Deeper than one human lifetime and I dunno if you believe in God or anything but it’s not gonna make sense if you don’t. Just know that everything happens for a reason and everything is recorded. That you were places in those ppls lives for a reason
