I’m an EMT, and recently ran a call on a patient who had fallen in her kitchen. She had plum and navy checkerboard tile floors, and what looked to be labradorite countertops. It would have been stunning, but she had cheap white cabinets that were stained, copper drawer pulls that were turning green, and the lighting was fluorescent, similar to what you would find in an old high school from the 1970s-80s. Patient was okay though, which was the whole reason I was there. But the interior style choices were definitely memorable!
@@minigiant8998 lol, no. First of all, there is no identifying identification on the woman OR her condition (other than what a hospital would provide any stranger), meaning no violation. Second, the woman was a hermit who only allowed three people in her house in the last twenty years, and I’m one of those three. And third, you don’t even know where the incident took place.
@@minigiant8998 you do realize that not every country in the world follows HIPAA, right? And that maybe I have the patient’s permission to write what I did? And on top of that, there’s still nowhere enough information in what I wrote to identify her. You don’t even know where I’m located, so how can you identify my patient? You don’t know her name, age, location, gender (maybe she’s not really a she and maybe I changed gender to hide her true identity). And you don’t know the details of her incident other than that it involved a fall and the patient is now okay. Also, having spoken to the patient today, and discussed her kitchen design ( the countertops really were stunning and I was curious about them), she informed me that she is not the only person to have this design in her kitchen, as she chose several elements of her kitchen to match a friend, who matched her friend. That’s three different women, and you don’t know which woman was my patient. For anyone else who may be following this whole thread- the countertops were indeed labradorite, at least according to the person she bought them from. She said they were beautiful to look at, but she hated using them, as with her eyesight it was sometimes easy to miss when she spilled things. The reason behind the cabinets is that they were going to be painted, but she never got around to it. And the lighting is easier to see for her to cook. And she actually likes the green color the copper is turning!
helpful video. thanks for this one! btw matte porcelain countertops are a good alternative to real stone (if like me, real stone wasn't in the budget).
I'm so glad that you agree with me, as I have had nothing but white linens for years and I would never change that. It's such a clean look that I absolutely love! Go Daddy!
My nomination for design trends that will never go out of style: 1) gold-speckled white or pink Formica countertops (gotta be Formica, none of that cheap laminate stuff), 2) asbestos floor tiles, 3) a bowl of fresh wax fruit, 4) wall plaques featuring a fish that sings "Way Down Upon the Swamee River" hung next to a picture of dogs playing poker, 5) real plastic flowers (none of those cheap silk ones), and 6) pink toilets, sinks, and tubs. Oh, and the piece de resistance!: an eight-foot tall aluminum Christmas tree with color wheel!
@@whiteserpent6753 I did indeed forget that. My childhood home was pre-popcorn, but at age 16 I discovered popcorn ceilings when we moved. Well gee whiz, Beav, you're not supposed to EAT it!
Great video DD!!! It's funny, no one ever talks about symmetry but you're right it is timeless and easy to pull off on any budget. There's a reason why the more symmetrical a someone's face is the more beautiful it's considered. I look forward to your next video DD!!!
Hey DD -good points. Thanks.....Regarding the checkerboard floors, the best example I've scene is the Guell mansion entry floors in Barcelona. The stone used is untraditional and the pattern is unique....when I think of CB pattern its always my go to reference.
Would love a countertop video, kitchens & bathrooms. I've been interested in soapstone vs marble recently, I know they're not for everyone but I don't want something that will stay the same, I want age & patina over time
Daddy, Just for the fun of it, I vacuumed my mattress before putting the sheets on and I was shocked to have the same result that you did. Lord, all that dust and stuff. I am in complete agreement about the oak with a dark cherry stain or, maple with a walnut stain. I like the way you put it, "allow it to be whatever color it actually is". Whatever you said, thanks for saying it. I am not oppose to bleaching or a topcoat that will lighten or darken it just a shade. Pine will always turn dark orange though. I find a very wide mouth vase or vessel to be best for a foyer catch-all, it hides the stuff better. Thanks.
Yes, please do a countertop video. Am building soon and am leaning toward quartz for the price and durability. Not the lightning bolt kind, (hideous), but more subtle veining.
Thank you for all your amazing videos! You are so knoledgeble! And I love your sense of humor! I have a question, we are installing all newengeneered hardwhood flooring. Can you give us some advice on what direction you lay flooring for long and narrow livingroom? Thanks!
Omg this was so helpful!!! I have a new build & I was so confused if I could add wall moulding cause my house is a little more on the modern side. I couldn’t really find any info on that. Love your vids!!
please make a video discussing lighting! especially ceiling fans!! literally all of them are ugly, but the functionality is a MUST. I cant even find cute ones on Pinterest or other sites, PLEASE help a girl out
Thank you for that white sheet/blanket tip!🙌🏼 All I use is white and they do get yellow and always wondered why! I started adding more bleach and extra rinse cycle.😩😅
Would you address the issue of hanging art work when paneling has been installed. I love the paneling I put in but am stumped. For example, in my small condo, the "living room" has a wall with nine panels that span a tiny "reading area", living room couch, and a dining room table (round) with four chairs. Mostly white. I create my own art and want to keep the theme simple--if, indeed, a theme is the way to go (or not). In advance, thank you for an extraordinary set of videos.
Using Dawn dish soap in a washing machine can cause damage. Dish soap is formulated to create a lot of suds, which can overflow and potentially damage the machine's internal components. This excessive foaming can also lead to residue buildup on your clothes and inside the machine.
Re: countertop options, what are your thoughts on ceraminc and porcelain? I am considering a hidden induction cooktop but you can't use marble or quartz for that, it has to be a thinner stone so ceramic and procelain are the main options but they tend to chip.
If someone hires you to completely redecorate their home (10,000 SF), do you actually come most of the time or do you have a team that does most of it?
Love natural stone counters. Did a bathroom remodel and chose a beautiful Malaga Blanco marble because I cannot stand how fake and contrived quartz looks when it has the lightning bolt “marble-look.”

I have always disliked books as decor, but agree they are everywhere. In fact the same book (TOM FORD anyone?). So bland and lacking in any kind of creativity at all. I am currently remodeling and told my designer NO BOOKS! However, I may change my mind. I remembered that I have in storage the complete collection of Calvin & Hobbes in hard cover. I may just put those out -- something people actually want to read LOL! I do like vases a lot, as long as they have flowers in them.
