  • “Come to Leitrim - It could change your life!” says Michael Harding in a beautiful new video showcasing Leitrim as a place to visit, enjoy, explore and experience but also as an invigorating and vibrant place to live and work.
The video was created by Edwina Guckian of Dreoilín Productions along with artists Michael Harding, Eleanor Shanley, Seamus O Rourke, Charlie McGettigan and Garadice who each share their thoughts and values of what makes this county such a treasure.
“The piece is a very honest, artistic response to our county. Each of us involved are very passionate about our home and promote it across the world wherever we are performing. And it is when we are on the other side of the world we really feel the draw of Leitrim calling us home.” - Edwina Guckian
It’s not until you slow down and take the time to explore it that you really see Leitrim’s hidden treasures. The land, the water, the people, the communities, the towns and villages, the lilt of our language, the music, song and dance, the easy pace of life, the welcome; we tried to capture it all and show the world the wealth of what Leitrim gives us and how lucky we are to live here. What we have is very special. As Seamus O Rourke said, In Leitrim you’re allowed to breathe, and be the better for being yourself.”
We are calling on the people of Leitrim, near and far, to share this video on their social media using the hashtag #EnjoyLeitrim to show the world what we have to offer as a community and as a diverse county.
“This video articulates the wonderful way of life in Leitrim; in nature, in landscape, in environment and people. It goes hard in hand with sustainable tourism which is one of the most important elements of our economy, supporting local employment, food producers, farmers and the hardworking Leitrim business owners. We want to share the message that Leitrim is a wonderful and safe place to visit, work and live.” - Joe Dolan of The Bush Hotel.
This project was made possible by the support of: The Bush Hotel, The Landmark Hotel, Lough Rynn Castle, The Shed Distillery, Leitrim Vintners Federation, Leitrim County Council & Leitrim Tourism.

My father John Willie Faughnan was born in Dromod, Co. Leitrim on the 9th July 1916. He was a very proud Leitrim man. I am now 69 years of age. My father died in the 22nd July 1974, and my mother, Mary Ellen Faughnan, nee O'Mahony died on the 1st April 1991. My brother died on 6th January 1918. They are all buried in Cloonmorris Cemetery, Bornacolla, Co. Leitrim. I am 69 years of age, but I miss them all terribly.

My granddad came from Addagold township, Dromahair. To think his kin farmed the land for two hundred years with the nearest neighbours miles away. Such an isolating existence, yet so in tune with nature. My mother told me how he would often think back to memorable meet ups and music at the crossroads .

I love Leitrim. My father is from Newtowngore. Life was rough when he was growing up right after the War of Independence and Civil War, but his happiest times were spent on Garadice Lake. I've sat on her shores and couldn't agree more!

Wow--my mom's (Carrigallen-McPartlin) ancestral homeland. I hope to get there someday. My mom never made it, but my aunts/her sisters, went and connected with cousins and it was one of the greatest things in their lives. Glad I found this--thanks for sharing.

I’m an American and I lived in Leitrim many years ago for a year when I was 12. It was a lot different to life in the US. Leitrim was fantastic! Great people, great countryside. I don’t remember it being as sunny as in this video, it rained quite a bit.

My ancestors are from Leitrim, my great great grandparents John and Anna Kelly née Fox. They came to Western Australia arriving January 1862. He had been pensioned from the crimea war. The music and accent makes me think how sad the culture is not always handed down to generations. I would love to visit my families homes.

Wonderful to see my home county of Leitrim showcased. I recognised all the landscapes, I've been up the mountains and hills and have hiked the forests and glens. Glenade is truly special. I highly recommend that you get on your hiking books and explore for yourself.

I have been lucky enough to spend a LOT of time in Leitrim since 1959. Video captures what makes it the special place it is. It survived, for the most part, the rush to change what made Leitrim special during the rabid Celtic Tiger days and she continues to beat to their own drum.
Shout out to Sheffield, my mom's townland in Kilclare and Mohercrieve, Daddy's home place in Drumshanbo.
    Leitrim rocks.
Very proud to be a first generation descendant of this county.

My great great grandfather James O'Connor came to America from County Leitrim in the mid 1850s. He married Catharine Behan, and I believe she was also from there. My grandfather was so proud of his Irish heritage, but I have no clue how to trace my O'Connor line in Leitrim as I don't know what town, village or parish they were from. There must have been hundreds of James O'Connors who were born and lived in that area over the centuries. Could anyone possibly give me an idea where to begin?

Never trust "come here" videos. I'm from Ireland and unless you like a lot of rain, very high cost of living and a nanny state bending you over any time it wants without a courtesy spit I suggest you do some in-depth research on Ireland before falling for the sales pitches
