The crawlspace didn't exist until after he removed the corroded water heater and replaced it with an on-demand water heater - and after finding mushy rotting wood cut a hole in the floor to create a crawlspace access. Genuinely, I think Skyler’s one of the most sympathetic characters in the Gilliganverse. Watching the entire thing again, I really can’t see all the villainy people assign to her for some reason. In the first season, what people kept referring to as “nagging” and “manipulative” just came off as a pregnant wife struggling to deal with her husband having cancer while also refusing to take treatments (meaning he was actively increasing the risks of not being present in their unborn daughter’s life). The pillow scene is brought up often, but she backed off immediately after Walt made his decision (and he only changed his mind after seeing the baby-raising books the next morning). Plus, she was willing to risk *bankruptcy* just for Walt to get treatments. Walt and Skyler’s relationship wasn’t exciting, sure, but It wasn’t *bad* by any means. They did love each other. It was just boring. Over time Skyler showed herself to actually care about the family in ways Walt wasn’t, such as trying to get Walt to pay for Hank’s treatment so that he wouldn’t lose the use of his legs, while Walt was just going “Well, he’s not *technically* family…” which goes against the entire point of doing it for his family.
Thank you for this breakdown series! It's been really interesting to watch your breakdowns and rewatch the series again. You're doing really good work.
To be honest, I am dreading the scene where Walt makes a move on Carmen. People say Skyler singing happy birthday is the cringiest scene but the former takes the cake in my honest opinion. It is just... awkward.
@@betterwatchtv - I was really into the sport between 99 and 06…it was interesting to then see the athletes start to take on small acting roles here and there. 👍
Yeah I have to admit the first time I ever watched this show I was like Skylar is annoying asf (I was 15) I rewatched the show with my parents when I turned 20 and I really noticed how toxic Walter actually was all the things he controlled with his ego. And understand more of why things turned out the way they did with matured mindset lol.
I love the praise you have been giving to Skyler and Anna Gunn during your whole run. She's a great character put in a hard situation that makes some regrettable but understandable choices. And often proves herself smarter than Walt.
True, and thanks! 🙂 I feel like I’m being a little hard on her with the “cringe” scene in today’s video and her manipulation of the locksmith in Box Cutter (which I’m working on for next week), but everyone has their flaws!
Completely agree about Bolsa. He feels like the character I understand the least about, because the show made him so dry and dull that I never paid that much attention when he was on-screen. He doesn't fit the rest of the Fring/Salamanca operation cast at all. He seems too...normal? Thanks for the video as always - always get excited to see a new episode out each week!
LOL i agree with the comment on how unremarkable juan bolsa is as a character. maybe it's just cause he never gets anything major to do, but he really is "just there". he doesn't really feel like he has anything to do with gus _or_ the cartel, he's just a guy who kindasorta mediates things sometimes and isn't even remotely intimidating. something about him just makes him look n feel like a normal guy. also the only bathroom in the house being connected to the master bedroom sounds like _such_ a nightmare. the only remedy i can imagine is if walt jr's room also has a bathroom connected to it, but im not sure if this is ever confirmed or denied lol
Nice! I never thought about the possibility of Junior’s room having a bathroom. Definitely never confirmed but I wonder if there’s a wall we never saw, so technically they could have removed garage space to make that happen… which supports why they never park cars in the garage! An interesting theory, but I’m going to say it’s not true! Supported by Walt asking to use Skyler’s bathroom in Half Measures.
So Walter Jr. has to go through his parents' bedroom to use the bathroom while they're sleeping at night? Awkward. But Skyler did tell him (in the Pilot, I think?) if he wanted to ensure a shower with hot water he should wake up first, implying the house only has one shower. Maybe there's a half bath in the garage.
Yeah, I sometimes wondered if there might be, but then I don’t think Walt would have asked Skyler to use the bathroom then pee in the sink when she refused
@@betterwatchtv Only having one bathroom in the house ended up being the downfall of Heisenberg. Hank had to take a poo during the family barbeque and was forced to do so in the master bathroom.
Referring to Hector Salamanca's treatment, it is actually extremely rare to use "Don" with the surname (might even be wrong). It is either "don Héctor" or "Sr. Salamanca" (Mr Salamanca)
So weird seeing saul basically beg jesse to get walk to cook again. After all the dumb shit he did in better call saul he does not care and kept doing it
Not sure if it has been said but when calling Salamanca "Don Salamanca", the Don part is not his first name but more like Mister. It is a Spanish language thing we use to refer to the elderly respectfully. Therefore, they call him Don Salamanca or Don Hector (Mr. Salamanca or Mr. Hector).
Yeah, I just thought it was interesting that they hadn't chosen his first name yet! And someone said that it's not correct to do "Don [Last Name]"; you should do "Don [First Name]"... but I'm not sure if that's true!
Bolsa was definitely writing. He didn’t do much in the show, which also made his death more of a thing that just happened, kinda like Joaquin Salamanca. I’m glad he got more screen time in better call Saul, definitely makes him stand out a little more in Breaking Bad
@@betterwatchtv yeah nothing that stands out a lot, just more time to flesh out his character a little more. Even then Bolsa still feels a bit flat, but not as much as he did in just BB
This episode proved that *"NONE"* of the main characters of Breaking Bad are *"GOOD"* people... As we know from *Better Call Saul* Season 6 Episode 9: *"Fun and Games"* ...when Mike reports Nacho's death to Manuel Varga, and assures him that soon he'll get his *"Justice"* , Manuel corrects him by saying that what he's referring to is *NOT* justice, its *REVENGE* . Manuel chooses to *NOT* take revenge, as doing that wouldn't do any good, but might cause *MORE* harm Here we can see that Skyler's answer to the situation was taking revenge - taking help of a *POISON* that harms everyone involved. Ultimately proving that she is also a *nuanced* character, not a *good* person, like she *thinks* she is
Oops, can’t forget Holly! 👶 I bet there are some more that *could* be at the same level as Manuel, but he’s probably the most obviously moral character!
When i first saw bb, i never really understood who Juan Bolsa was, he feels like a very shallow character and very hard to understand what his purpose was. I guess now after many years i kinda know but still, one of the least worked characters in my opinion.
I really wish I didn’t rewatch breaking bad last year. Would love to watch an episode a week and watch these videos afterwards. I think I’ve said this before but I feel like I’ve seen this episode the least or at least in my bottom 5. I suppose I’ll say that 3 more times haha. I love that your videos focus on details but hearing your opinion of Juan Bolsa and defending Skyler made me realise you should add more of your own commentary. When I was 15 watching Breaking Bad I was definitely team ‘fuck Skyler’, not to the level that I ever harassed Anna Gunn (because I’m aware there’s a thing called acting) but now I totally sympathise and support how she fucked Ted as a way of lashing out as she’s been essentially held prisoner by a criminal and the only thing preventing her from escaping is telling on Walt and yet she refuses to do so.. I’m almost amazed now I thought Skyler was anything other than extremely non-obstructive to the Walt’s path to Heisenberg and in fact if she acted like most people she probably would’ve asked for more than just asking Walt signing divorce papers.
Aww, thanks! Yeah, I think this episode is going to be pretty low on my ranking. Not because of the plot points, but because there's just a lot of filler. I think my least favorite part is actually the whole Hank bar scene!
I always kind of hoped that the lady who had her van stolen by Leonel and Marco was just left safely on the side of the road somewhere. Sadly, that was probably not the case.
It's crazy to me that Saul, who was already a millionaire sitting on a pile of cash and a lucrative business with multiple revenue streams, would go out of his way to encourage Jesse to get Walt cooking again. It wasn't exactly necessary, especially considering the risk of Walt getting busted and rolling on everyone. Kim leaving really did fully turn Jimmy into Saul.
There was, but it recently got blocked. I'll be making a new & improved version, but it's going to take awhile because all my time is consumed by getting the new weekly videos out!
This episode has a plot hole or production flaw, which ever you want to call it. It happens when Mike is hiding the bugs in the house. Mike is still in the yard. and Walter is entering the back yard from the side of the house. The scene is shot looking out towards the street. But if you look up the street where Mikes car is supposed to be Mikes car is not there.
Was it even cheating? They were separated, she wanted him out of the house and she was going for divorce but Walt manipulated himself back into the home. Walt deluded himself into thinking there was a marriage to save
Thanks for another episode man, I think this is an episode in which we put ourselves in Sky's shoes, there is no need to judge her. I take the opportunity to brand new expressing that I am like this for this new video!😂
@@betterwatchtv I just make sure to blabber loudly over the video and unfocus my eyes any time Better Call Saul is brought up lol keep up the great work!
4:08 "Don" isn't his name. It is a title. Like "Don Corleoni" in "The Godfather" It is like calling someone "Mister" it is a title of respect, but not his name. We all know his name is "Hector Salamanca"
My theory is that they didn’t think the actor would pull it off. (Similar to my theory of why they never showed Gomey finding out the truth about Walt. And I love Gomey!)
I love how people act like Skyler is a bad person…after Walt a drug dealing murderer refuses to respect her wishes for a divorce, forces his way into her home, and refuses to listen to her. She FT only because of Walt’s actions
god i remember watching this for the first time. I paused the episode around the moment walt climbs to clean the pizza and sat down to think about the meaning of I.F.T. It was EXACTLY what i was thinking about and i dont think i was ever more floored watching a show, since Bojack. And then i saw what happened to poor dennis and i think i felt genuine shock and horror for the first time 😂

Cannot wait for the "Face Off" video, i've a feeling its gonna be a great one!
@@APorkchopGuy It's a great question, but I don't think they would have moved her body back to her house. I think they just recklessly killed people all over the place!
Ok. Not sure if you’re being sarcastic about hector Salamanca, but don is a title in cartels and the mob. Of course, close family call what they call him. In public he addressed by Mr to show respect. But in a private meeting, you call him don to show respect, especially if you’re not in their organization.
I’m not being sarcastic, but I think I was being confusing. I was just trying to point out that the character didn’t have a first name yet! Which is part of the reason they called him Don Salamanca / Tío / Señor Salamanca up until this point. Once they chose his first name, they switched to Don Hector!
@@betterwatchtv : I see. Sorry if spoiled this one. I’m using my memory of the series. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it. However it is the first time he’s in a formal meeting, and he’s obviously not the don anymore. It seemed to me that Gus is just moving chess pieces in that scene. Again,Apologies if I gave it away.
07:00, i always say the same thing to myself each i try to justify Walt's actions, and it's funny how Skylar never brings that up although it's clear she thinks that way
Fun fact: for anyone who are stupid, you know how brba episodes title contains multiple meanings? This episode title contains no other meaning than Skyler saying” I.FUCK.TED” (I.F.T)
There is actually a potential in-universe reason for why they call Hector Don Salamanca here but don't in better call saul! We know that Lalo is also a Don, the random underling that he has shave to look like him calls him "Don Eduardo". It would've been confusing to have two Don Salamancas around. Though we know the real out of universe reason is because we didn't know Hector's name yet, I just found it interesting.
In all your breakdowns, there seems to be a lot of shadows of the crew and other filming “mistakes”, do you think Vince did that on purpose? I find it hard to believe that he didn’t catch any of them because he is so attention to detail.
I have a hard time believing they’d be on purpose! Maybe his attention to detail is focused more on the story and the ideas behind the shots and less so on quality control of the finished shots!
7:47 apparently Vince (or maybe another creative lead) wanted them to be watching The Whitest Kids You Know during this scene because he was a big fan of it, but they ended up picking a different show after they had gotten permission. ua-cam.com/video/9E6HWLnuSXQ/v-deo.html

Very well said!
It's incorrect to say "Don last name" in Spanish - you say "Don first name," which might be why BCS corrected it. "Señor last name" is also valid.
Good to know! Thanks!!

Thank you for this breakdown series! It's been really interesting to watch your breakdowns and rewatch the series again. You're doing really good work.
Thank you! I'm glad you like them!
To be honest, I am dreading the scene where Walt makes a move on Carmen. People say Skyler singing happy birthday is the cringiest scene but the former takes the cake in my honest opinion. It is just... awkward.
I agree that the Walt/Carmen scene is way more cringy! Probably the cringiest!
The taller man in the bar fight with Hank is former UFC fighter Keith Jardine.
Cool, I had no idea! Thanks!
@@betterwatchtv - I was really into the sport between 99 and 06…it was interesting to then see the athletes start to take on small acting roles here and there. 👍
I like seeing that dude pop up in places. He's got good presence.
Ripper, count em
Yeah I have to admit the first time I ever watched this show I was like Skylar is annoying asf (I was 15) I rewatched the show with my parents when I turned 20 and I really noticed how toxic Walter actually was all the things he controlled with his ego. And understand more of why things turned out the way they did with matured mindset lol.
That’s kind of my feeling as well. It’s way easier to see her side on a later viewing! Thanks!!
"I noticed how toxic the meth manufacturer and murderer Walter White really is"
Skyler is not wrong all the time but people who watch breaking bad all know our brain made us think she is always wrong
It’s easy to get wrapped up in Walt’s perspective and view her as an obstacle, especially the first time watching!
Cant wait when we start doing Better Call Saul breakdowns! Always fun to watch these
Thanks!!
visions of Walter peeing in his crawl space are stuck in my mind because of the sentence at 4:58
can't wait for Walt & Carmen, after Walt failed to suit himself onto Ted's face 🤣🤣
😂
I love the praise you have been giving to Skyler and Anna Gunn during your whole run. She's a great character put in a hard situation that makes some regrettable but understandable choices. And often proves herself smarter than Walt.
True, and thanks! 🙂 I feel like I’m being a little hard on her with the “cringe” scene in today’s video and her manipulation of the locksmith in Box Cutter (which I’m working on for next week), but everyone has their flaws!
2:29 this cop appears in Better Call Saul
Yep! I have a whole video about these: ua-cam.com/video/-1GnjSQGp9w/v-deo.html
@@betterwatchtv nice
2:50 also changing the locks was illegal on her part.
True!
Oh my jesus. This video got uploaded the second I got my order of food. I have a feeling that you work with the cartel...
Not directly, but I know a guy who bugs houses…
Completely agree about Bolsa. He feels like the character I understand the least about, because the show made him so dry and dull that I never paid that much attention when he was on-screen. He doesn't fit the rest of the Fring/Salamanca operation cast at all. He seems too...normal?
Thanks for the video as always - always get excited to see a new episode out each week!
Thanks!! Yes, that’s a great way of putting it! Too normal!
2:18 that's is the same cop who comes to Pryce's house when his baseball cards are stolen
Yep! I have a whole video about these: ua-cam.com/video/-1GnjSQGp9w/v-deo.html
Wow dude I never realized Hector didn’t have a first name till season 4 😮 better call Saul said it so much I guess that’s why I never noticed
I know, right!? It's also crazy how little he appeared in Breaking Bad!
im convinced people who hate skylar are just naturally dense
Certainly anyone who extends those feelings toward Anna, who played her perfectly!
0:37 I agree. It seem his character is just there to move the plot.
Thanks!
Referring to Hector Salamanca's treatment, it is actually extremely rare to use "Don" with the surname (might even be wrong). It is either "don Héctor" or "Sr. Salamanca" (Mr Salamanca)
Interesting. I’m glad they eventually corrected that!
So weird seeing saul basically beg jesse to get walk to cook again. After all the dumb shit he did in better call saul he does not care and kept doing it
It is very interesting to rewatch after BCS!
You can use either really
These videos make my Sunday better knowing I have school tomorrow thank you for making these videos also Skyler is mad for that decision 💀
I’m glad I can help!
love this series NEVER STOP!
Thanks, beans!!
7:37 I don't care what you say, this makes me hate her forever.
That’s fair!

Aww, thanks! I feel special making you feel something other than irate!
looks like i forgot to renew my subscription! i was wondering why i didnt see this video on friday lol
Oh! Now I feel bad that you weren’t on Beneke’s printout! Welcome back!!
Bolsa was definitely writing. He didn’t do much in the show, which also made his death more of a thing that just happened, kinda like Joaquin Salamanca. I’m glad he got more screen time in better call Saul, definitely makes him stand out a little more in Breaking Bad
I don’t remember any real standout moments of his in Better Call Saul, but I’ll think about that as I make videos about those episodes!
@@betterwatchtv yeah nothing that stands out a lot, just more time to flesh out his character a little more. Even then Bolsa still feels a bit flat, but not as much as he did in just BB
Yeah, that checks out!
@@betterwatchtv Come on, he gets a memorable role in Nacho's final scene.

One of the two guys Hank fights in the bar is professional MMA fighter "The Dean of Mean Keith Jardine."
Yes, indeed! I should have pointed it out!
Serious Hank next? Love the content!!
Yes, I think so! Assuming ~12 more members join! Thanks!!
Manuel chooses to *NOT* take revenge, as doing that wouldn't do any good, but might cause *MORE* harm
Here we can see that Skyler's answer to the situation was taking revenge - taking help of a *POISON* that harms everyone involved. Ultimately proving that she is also a *nuanced* character, not a *good* person, like she *thinks* she is
Yeah, Junior is probably the only one! But certainly nobody is without faults!
@@betterwatchtv and holly...
So basically 3 main characters are good peole: Walt Jr, Holly and Manuel Varga
Oops, can’t forget Holly! 👶 I bet there are some more that *could* be at the same level as Manuel, but he’s probably the most obviously moral character!
great video yo, loved the editing this go around yo keep up the great work frrr
Thank you!!
5:00 The actress who plays Skyler's lawyer, Julie Dretzin, is the wife of writer/producer Sam Catlin.
Yes! I was considering pointing that out for the episode that Sam directs!
When i first saw bb, i never really understood who Juan Bolsa was, he feels like a very shallow character and very hard to understand what his purpose was.
I guess now after many years i kinda know but still, one of the least worked characters in my opinion.
I’m glad to know I’m not alone!
I agree, but I think BCS filled out his character.
Yeah, sadly not. I think Vince mentioned that they indeed killed her.
Great point!
Is there not a recap for s3e2? Love your videos btw. Outstanding work!
There was, but it recently got blocked. I'll be making a new & improved version, but it's going to take awhile because all my time is consumed by getting the new weekly videos out!
@ bummer that YT is being such a dick to you. Thanks for all that you do. Your channel really brightens my day
This episode has a plot hole or production flaw, which ever you want to call it. It happens when Mike is hiding the bugs in the house. Mike is still in the yard. and Walter is entering the back yard from the side of the house. The scene is shot looking out towards the street. But if you look up the street where Mikes car is supposed to be Mikes car is not there.
Yep, I do point that out, although it's in this episode: ua-cam.com/video/3SOm5ADApLI/v-deo.html
I'm the number 1 skyler defender, we watch Walter do vile shit and all she did was cheat during a break with Walter
Yep!
Cue to Skyler shouting 'we were on a break!'
😂
Was it even cheating? They were separated, she wanted him out of the house and she was going for divorce but Walt manipulated himself back into the home. Walt deluded himself into thinking there was a marriage to save
I agree with the Juan Bolsa point. Despite them saying his name a lot and him being an important cartel figure I never found him memorable at all
Yep, thanks!
Thanks for another episode man, I think this is an episode in which we put ourselves in Sky's shoes, there is no need to judge her. I take the opportunity to brand new expressing that I am like this for this new video!😂
Thank you!!
These videos are the perfect way to refresh myself on Breaking Bad before finally watching Saul
Nice! That is a perfect way to do it!
@@betterwatchtv I just make sure to blabber loudly over the video and unfocus my eyes any time Better Call Saul is brought up lol keep up the great work!
Good! There will indeed be some references from time to time. You should get started on it! 😉
4:08 "Don" isn't his name. It is a title. Like "Don Corleoni" in "The Godfather"
It is like calling someone "Mister" it is a title of respect, but not his name. We all know his name is "Hector Salamanca"
Right, but it turns out that they hadn't chosen his first name yet at this point on the series! That's what I was highlighting.
@@betterwatchtv Ahhh I see, my bad
No worries! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 😁
Really wish bolsa had more screen time. Considering he's 2IC he should have at least been an antagonist.
She FT only because of Walt’s actions
its hilarios that the episode where skyler cheats is just called s.f.t.
such a silly name
Indeed!
god i remember watching this for the first time. I paused the episode around the moment walt climbs to clean the pizza and sat down to think about the meaning of I.F.T.
It was EXACTLY what i was thinking about and i dont think i was ever more floored watching a show, since Bojack.
And then i saw what happened to poor dennis and i think i felt genuine shock and horror for the first time 😂
That’s so amazing. Thanks for sharing!
@@betterwatchtv one of the joys of watching a show this good. these videos that break down the episodes in this way are amazing and incredibly addictive to watch (right down to the film artifacts i never even knew about as concept until this series). The Face Off video is HUGE in three different ways! 💥
only incels don't understand what skyler was doing and blame her. People who hate skyler also see walt as a pretty good guy. Why don't you hate walt?
3:37 is this supposed to be Mrs. Pekitiwa from the later episode?
I’m 99% sure it’s meant to be a different victim!
@@betterwatchtv ok thanks for clarification I was always wondering about this
@@APorkchopGuy It's a great question, but I don't think they would have moved her body back to her house.

Oh yeah, that sounds good to me!
I don't mind Juan bolsa, i don't think every character has to be a huge presence. I think he works for what he is supposed to be there for
Yeah, I suppose that’s true!
3:43 nooooo the twins got her 😢
Yeah, crazy coincidence!
He would have made no where as much money with the job.
Not that I wouldn’t have taken the job myself.
But he would have made plenty, especially with health insurance presumably covering most of his medical bills!
I actually really Juan bolsa in the series
I respect that!
walter could of done it just by having i dont know life insurance. how could someone prepared, smart as walter not having life insurance..
