Do an all aussie build! I'm currently building with a king billy soundboard. According to some of the luthiers I've spoken to, it's the gold standard for aussie soundboards

many boats were made from huon for many many years n cos the grain is very linear, its very strong n light. Its stored after cutting in dams n rivers with some over 200yrs old n still just as good as the day it was cut

I think it'd be nice on a small bodied guitar paired with mahogany or koa. Pronounced woody midrange with a slight compression. A warm, articulate fingerstyle instrument. And you might be able to pare it a couple of thousandths thinner.

As others have said, go for a topwood! If you want to hear how sweet Huon can be, have a listen to Waltz for Kim by David Ross Macdonald. It’s played on an OM sized body with a Huon soundboard and Jarrah b/s. Such a lovely tune and a beautiful sounding guitar.

Great story about the tree’s lineage... reproduction sloth style! Strange figuring alright. Soundboard - yes or no? Well... there is definitely some tonal quality there - there’s highs to lows present - perhaps not too much sustain but I vote yes for a soundboard!

I wonder if because pines are sappy they would make good candidates for torrefaction... or some process involving the oils that would allow it to retain structural integrity at at thinner thickness?
