PowerPlayChess I don’t know who does it better: your explaining or Magnus’s ability to make world class GM look really bad.
"Thanks for watching." No, thank you, GM King, for the fantastic free content.
A world class comeback from the world champion commentated by the world's best commentator!
The name is King. Daniel King.
As your youtube student, i also have big desire to bring my bishops out early. Today you teach me to hang back and wait. Thanks teacher 😊
Indeed, Albert -- free tips are always welcome: thanks GM Daniel King!
Nice video. GM King tributes respect for an overlooked Larsen. Actually, Fischer was in extraordinary shape in his way into world championship
After the game ended, my next thought was when your analysis would be available. Great result by Magnus.
I am really happy to see carlsen back on form
I'm glad to see Magnus finishing strong. His consistency is impressive - since he's on top, everyone he plays always brings their best. In all his games, everyone else just needs one lucky break or great performance, while for Magnus just one unlucky break or bad game is too much.
Increcible! What a finish by Magnus who made it to a playoff. I am so glad :-D Keep up the excellent work, Daniel!
Great coverage as always Daniel!
Forget the rest, I watch the best. Great analysis GM King as always. Ding will be challenging and I suspect beating Magnus within the next few World Championship cycles.
'I made my own luck' - Vachier-Lagrave vs Carlsen | Sinquefield Cup 2019
Thank you one more time for the excellent content!
Kudos to Magnus, but this should have been Anand's tournament. He must be kicking himself for missing so may chances.
Don't worry there's always june chances
It's nice Magnus is in form just for the tiebreakers. I'm still gonna be rooting for Ding this time because he absolutely deserves to win this tournament, in any case, they are both in great form and it should be an interesting series
*Magnus* is on +2 with no loss and he still *lost 6 rating points.*
2900 will be hard, but ohhh so delightful if he ever pulls it off
Yep needed +3.3 to match expected win % based on the avg rating so one more win would still be rating loss
@@Formalec The rating gap between Carlsen and the other players is astonishing. The Elo system is designed to make it more and more difficult to gain point the higher you go, so we expect the gap to be smaller and smaller like the way it is for the 2760~2780 rated players.
Really cool game! Thx for your analysis!
I love this in many ways, but to keep it simple I am glad to see patzers change their Retire Magnus tune for the 3rd day. Sorry Mr. King I do watch other channels & their comments are the guilty party! But I am happy with game 8’s comment saying if anyone can pull off 2 of 3 final wins it would be Magnus.
Thx for the vid Sir King!
Cheers 🍻
Thank you!
Magnus is an absolute machine. No one is even close to him
Offhand, I recall a game of Tigran Petrosian's where Petrosian adopted a setup very much like the one Carlsen has after 10-12 moves, including a rook coming early to the second rank. The opening was a Modern Defense, however.
Andy Soltis cites the game in "The Art of Defense in Chess."
Homages from Carlsen to Botvinnik and Petrosian in successive games?
Okay interesting game! However one variation you missed, in analysis, was what happens around move 21...f5. It turns out that 22 ef5 Bd4 is actually not a threat, so I guess it means that MVL really didn't see the hidden threat of 22... Bxc3 at all! So after the best move 22 ef5 Bd4 23 Nf3! Bxe3 24 Qxe3 Bxf5 25 Ne5!! is a nice shot. And also after 23 Nf3! now Bxc3 does not work quite so well -- the weakness on the long diagonal now hurts Black after 24 Rxc3 Bxf5 25 Qd2 e5 (?) 26 Bg5! Very double edged and fascinating.
can your variation with 22. exf5 not be answered with Bd4 ( winning material ) ?
It would indeed be nice if Danny sometimes would lose a couple of words for moves that are self-explanatory both to him and the computer engine:
In this case, on purely general positional principles, I would say that the strong defender on g7 is worth more than "winning" a mere exchange for a pawn.
- Especially as both the Rb7 and the Bc8 will struggle to find into the game after 22...Bd4:
Looks like strong compensation for white, with the weak black king on the long diagonal, and cut-off black pieces.
Carlsen's prophylactic moves
31st move light square bishop move reminds me of a world championship game between carlsen and anand
9th game 2013
Amazing how Carlsen played quasi casually the entire tournament, wins two last games, and shares the first place.
I think he played as always, his opponents has played better
It seems at least part of the reason for Rb8 was simply to prepare 0-0 and not allow Qd5+, no?
If one wanted to castle immediately, indeed. Though this could have been solved with ...Nf7 and then 0-0. I think Magnus already had the manoeuvre along the second rank in mind.

It's interesting to note that when Magnus gets a win it's noteworthy and there is an immediate video.
When Ding outplays Magnus to win a tournament all goes a bit quiet.
I find it amusing, though baffling, that certain views are projected on to me. The tiebreak finished and pretty much straightaway I went into the scheduled Hangout (please see video featuring new broadcast system and graphics!). After that was over I had a cup of tea and a bite to eat. Then I analysed the Carlsen-Ding final blitz game, and recorded a video. However, by the time I had finished it was too late in the night for my tech partner to edit and upload (we both have families and many other commitments in our lives). When he gets a moment, he will post the video. I celebrate great chess - whoever plays it. I have been a great admirer of Ding Liren since first meeting him in the Bern GM tournament in 2013. Thank you. Rant over.
@@PowerPlayChess Fair enough. I was a bit out of order to imply anything - it just seems that things are a bit biased sometimes.
Toby, Do you expect the world to be as interested in Ding as they are in Magnus? Let him wins a few more tournaments perhaps - and maybe a world championship or two... And then your wish will come true. But he's gotta earn it. Not just have you complaining because a video wasn't posted fast enough.
At 3.33 after white plays b3, black should play f5 winning the white rook
Rb7 what a strange little idea!
funny when he pronounce full name MVL while Praggnanandhaa by just prag
At 3.16 I said Praggnanandhaa, and only abbreviated afterwards.
In rapid Carlsen has a massiv score advantage against Ding.
But magnus have played poor speed chess this month.
I'm getting kind of tired of only hearing about tournaments that only have the top 10 players in them. They are sucking all of the oxygen out of chess coverage. I miss the good old days of the inter-zonals where if you were among the top players in your region you could get into the candidates. This is nothing against Grandmaster King though. He has no equal.
Which is why the FIDE World Cup, taking place at the moment, is such a fascinating event!
@PowerPlayChess Thanks a lot for your videos. But this one looks like it only has 360p resolution. Probably doesn't matter too much for chess videos, but it gives a silly little satisfaction to see those chess icons in a clear resolution :D
Whenever I get a notification it only shows 360p. But only a few minutes later it shows up to 1080p. So, although it is hard ;-) just wait a few minutes, get a nice cuppa tea and then everything's fine!
@@Bayerwaldler ah I see.. I never tried to watch the video immediately before
