That Ferro rod is a beast. Nice kit. That is definitely a take anywhere kit . Thanks for reviewing something actually made in America. We need to support these companies. So wether I am fortunate enough to win this or not I will order it . Everything that is labeled says that this product may contain cancerous material in the state of California. No wonder they are nuts.

That's a nice setup, huge Ferro rod. I can see a need for this in the future. Plus the bonus birth bark and pine sap balls. It doesn't get much better than that.
    Shine on!

Hey Snake it's me again The Snake of N.Florida, I use cotton balls soaked with Vaseline, been using that for years. Pine woods supply all the tinder you need just look for the hanging dead pineneedles break them up a bit and they catch a spark really well. That was for the folks reading the comments cause I'm sure you know that already. Be safe and happy trails.

Great test on the fire plug. If a guy uses normal precautions to protect them from moisture they should light under most conditions.

Snake, I really appreciate you showing this. Being an old cotton and petroleum jelly guy, and getting burned (pardon the pun) on another (unnamed) fire starter gimmick this is going to be the first artificial fire starter that I am going to put my money on in probably 10 years. That mud test did it for me! Thanks again, keep up the good work, and always look forward to your videos! All the best...

There are several cotton wax soaked videos out there.
I buy cotton balls in dollar stores in big bags. I buy make up pads (circles) from cotton and heat up the dregs of old candles and dunk them. They work for several minutes. Last forever. Store in mini metal tins or flat sandwich bags.

dunked one of these in a tub of water for, eh, five seconds... even loosening the "tampon" fibers to get to the fibers it DID NOT LIGHT, tried a ferro rod, Bic and a suburban grill lighter
also, the striker is right handed - forewarned is forearmed
otherwise these things are AWESOME. same thing GB2 (and probably some others) is selling... oh and my dog chomped on a few - didn't get sick and they still lit a fire (y)
