Agree Keith. Moore Street the quintessential Dublin street from my 1950s childhood. At Christmas the street callers would say .. “Four pence each the long decorations” and “A shilling for the Cheeky Charlie’s”
The Dealers of Moore St are both iconic and are central to Dublin’s historical and cultural heritage and every effort must be made to ensure that they can remain there - being Irish and living in Manchester 23 years, listening to their calls from Henry St really does lift the spirit - they have a treasured place in the hearts of my generation of Irish people (I’m 53 myself) 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Keith ..,Moore Street was a gem in Dublin City & had fond memories there but sad to see the change As a child way back remember that historic building Un recognisable now which is sad pity but these are the times now so hopefully a little will be preserved there for those Irish who appreciate the real Dublin City 💚🍀
Totally agree - Moore St would not be the same without the Dealers, they are an iconic part of Dublin - chatting to the Dealers when I came home on a visit home from Manchester in August 2022, I was horrified to discover that they are being forced out of the area by the Corpo - I’m a Culchie but my Granny on my Dad’s side was from the Liberties 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪❤️❤️❤️
I spoke to the Moore St dealers in August 2022 the last time I came home from Manchester and they told me that they are being forced out of the area by the Corporation, which is totally disgraceful - I’m a Co. Meath Culchie but my Granny on my Dad’s side was from the Liberties so I want to see the Dealers being encouraged to stay there - they are an iconic part of Dublin which lifts the spirit as soon as you go down Henry St and Arnotts and I really want to see them continuing to trade down there 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ah Moore street was a gem of a place when i was younger keith , you would always go home with apples ,oranges or maybe 10 pears for a pound plus you would check each stall for tge cheapest 😂😂,whats happening there now reminds me of mrs brown de movie where she refuses to leave the street from developers ,so comical, government should try to modernise it to its former self not destroy it but money and backhanders talk ,cheers keith

slightly different, what planet are you on, Moore Street is unrecognisable to what it was, the fish monger's were on side were the ilack center is, fruit and vegetables on the other side,flowers at the top off Henry Street, banger's and fireworks and other things as well. i REMEMBER WHEN THE DEALER'S OF MOORE STREET WHERE HOUNDED BY THE CORPO AND BIG BUSINESS AND THE GUARD'S INTO WHAT IS A 😢😢😢 SAD REFLECTION OF WHAT IT WAS! Historical houses there from 1916 .. Thought there were preservation orders on those houses ..
So did I, but no, the developers are appealing it.its disgracefully.
