I still maintain that the Legacy era Scythe ships make sense. These ships concentrate all firepower to the forward arc, meaning that the ship can use all of their potential (apart from anti-fighter weapons which need to be able to cover all of the ship) at the same time, rather than having most of the cannons silent because only few have a firing arc at the enemy. Especially in a fight with only a few ships, this design lets you quickly bring all your firepower onto the enemy capital ships and take them out one by one. The obvious weakness is that if you get out maneuvered with an enemy flanking your capital ship, you have to turn around to fire at them, but with sufficiently agile ships this becomes less of an issue.
Mon Calamari Star Cruisers are among my favorite capital ships so I'm always glad to see another video about them! The MC90 is my favorite Mon Cal since it was the first one that was a purpose-built dedicated warship, the first one that reasonably accommodated non-Mon Calamari species, the first New Republic warship that really filled the big guns ship of the line role, the first New Republic warship that was able to successfully defeat an Imperial Star Destroyer one-on-one, and we actually have information about them unlike with the later Mon Cal ships. I do really wish we had more information about the _Mediator_ -class and the "Mon Calamari Heavy Carrier" (we don't even have a class name for that one?). Also it doesn't surprise me at all that there's such a lack of information about these Mon Cal ships because authors tend to just slot in Imperial or even Victory (!) Star Destroyers when they need a big capital ship in their stories. One of the most egregious examples: Admiral Bwua'tu's flagship during the Dark Nest Crisis, named after Admiral Ackbar of all people, was a Victory Star Destroyer rather than a Mon Calamari ship like a Mediator Battle Cruiser. Yes, for a ship that was tasked for chasing pirate ships, they chose a 54-year old design dating from the Clone Wars that was notorious for slow sublight speeds rather than a newer, faster, and more powerful Mon Calamari ship. I like that design in the video for the Mediator Battle Cruiser. Too bad it's not official.
Did the Mon Calamari have pre-congitive knowledge of what was going to happen in the 40 years post endor? Because there's no real reason for ships of that size, especially since a MC 80b and MC 90 can defeat a star destroyer.
Because the NR was often confronted with remaining Imperial dreadnoughts fighting for the remnant and various warlords. So Admiral Ackbar wanted to create an appropriate counter to these. I am referring especially to the Imperial Orinda-campaign here, where NR had to face 3 Imperial dreadnoughts, with their single one.
I really like the Mediator model. There's an elegence and intent to the design instead of it just being a load of clyster of bulges and weapon blisters.
I love the mediator design, but I think that my favourite is still the MC80b. It was recognizably Mon Cal but it looked really different. I don't really buy the Viscount being drastically scaled down from production models. It's much more like a totally different class if it is.
Yeah I think the whole "small prototype, huge regular ships" was just a covering-their-ass move to make up for a discrepancy between _Vector Prime_ and the sourcebooks.

What about Mon Cala escort and support ships? The big weakness of the Empire is they didn't have enough support ships for the ISD's, such as the Lancer frigate, various Corvettes and gunships. The *Big* Mon Cala ships [Viscount] are one on one masterpieces, but it's logistics that win wars _and keep the peace._ Admittedly the Mon Cala ships could be their own escort fleet as they didn't have the tactical weaknesses of ISD's. The Alliance needed to keep order (it's what helped the First Order gain support, that the Alliance allowed the outer rim to fall apart into lawlessness), they needed a _mass produced patrol ship_ to stop pirates and act as police and coast guard. And have the big ISD killers on standby, ready to jump to wherever a leftover ISD was causing problems.
The New Republic had access to a smaller ship called the MC40a, which I think was around 600 meters so it was in the class of a Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser. But as far as I know it was a retrofitted civilian ship like the MC80. In the Legacy era there was an escort frigate type ship; I think it was called _Shashore_ or something like that? It had a triple scythe design to complement the single scythe in the _Scythe_ -class. Otherwise, I'm not sure if Mon Calamari made too many smaller ships. That seemed to be more in the domain of CEC and New Class (like _Sacheen_ and _Warrior_ -classes).
