- Electrified automobiles appear to the future of motoring and they come in a variety of flavors, the most proven of which is the gas-electric hybrid. But the packaging around them can be quite different. Well, Kia thinks they’ve got the perfect blend of fuel efficiency and utility in their all-new Niro crossover. MSRP as-tested: $32,445. Seems like a very good value for a new car.
mfmf100 The biggest reason why Kia is gaining market share...
I want this car. Great review Steve.👍🏾
Awesome! Thanks.
hybrid starting at 24k,sure, i think it is a good deal.
Choosing between this and the ioniq. Hmmm
Thanks for filming in bustling downtown Altamont, Steve. ;)
Had to get my "city" shots!
I have noticed you haven't tested this generation's Toyota Prius. In this review, you were fiddling around with the Niro. I know a lot of people want to add an AWD option with this vehicle. But I think this will suffice for Kia, but it will not knock out the big kahuna Prius in sales and reputation.
Prius Prime coming May 8. It's taken me a while.
TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes Did you get my pun intended regards of the name Niro? Though that Nero is spelled differently...
Looking forward to reviews on the plug in version of the Niro. 25 miles of all electric range will be more than enough to get me to work gas-free. Hopefully, it's released nationwide and is not just a compliance car only available in Calif.
Great Review Steve. I am suprised to hear that the braking is not that great. I wonder if this comes in a different interior color.
It does...Charcoal Leather. Thanks!
Idk my braking works better than my old 4runner
Love it, but you lost me with the reference to the Rondo! Did that really leave a good impression on you?!
Yeah...the V6 model. Ugly as all heck but kind of like the Aztek, the Rondo was super useful and actually drove pretty well.

Somebody spent some quality time listening to da Mets beat that ass!
Opening Day!
It looks a redesigned Rondo.
It also really bothers me that Kia really seems to enjoy making asymmetrical center stacks. I can't stand how the two air vents in the middle are at different angles. They did the same thing on the Forte.
I overheard a French 'Taxi Driver' asking his wife:
"Do I buy de Citroen or de Niro?"
Thank you and please tip your server.
Don't say no awd they said themselves the mpg was horrible
