Why does mine a) bloom much later than my neighbors' and b) not bloom very much? I was thinking it was because it hadn't been pruned but just read that pruning isn't necessary to encourage blooming. I've always wanted a crape myrtle and now that we have one at our new house it's been a huge disappointment. Others in the neighborhood look great.
It could be the cultivar selection or the rate of return growth. They do bloom on new growth but not every tree may develop that growth at the same rate. We have some in our garden that bloom at slightly different times too. Beth
