You're my greatest mentor on UA-cam. Cos I have learnt something new from which I am truly going to benefit a lot
It may be simple in design but so is Shaker Furniture. Think about it. Never under estimate the power of simplicity. It is a smart and beautiful thing. I like it. Nice work. (Thumbs up).
Joseph, That's a good point. It may not be ideal but the main focus with this small, simple tool is it works well enough. Thanks. Glen
Nice...I like the simple stuff! Will be firing up my forge again soon since it is starting to cool down in the desert....the perfect season....all these ideas you give me for tools is great.....thx Glen!
Simple should be my middle name. Glad to know the weather is cooling down by you. Thanks.
Прикольна приспособа! Все гарно показав, як зробити, як прибрати косяки
Sweet project. That's a pretty elegant design.
It may be just a simple jig but it’s very effective. Nice job glen.
This could be improved for sure but sometimes the best tools are the simplest. Thanks.
i like how you're always trying new stuff. you somehow usually always present a definite alternative way to approach things, a credit to you!
i really like the tenon die, simple and it works. cheers mate
Mikey, Thanks for your support. This tool is simple and it could have been better but the bottom line is it works well enough for me. Glen
That's a neat idea. Yeah it doesn't need to be anything more than that.
Great! I've been looking at several different designs by several smiths on smaller swages. This is one of em I'm gonna end up doing. Im growing fast and need it yesterday lol! Looks good, and looks customizable. If one gets all the prep done like length and such different sizes could be added all in one tool. Thanks for all the vids. 🍻
Awesome. Good to see you working again.
Tadeusz, It my pleasure to make videos for folks like yourself. Thanks. Glen
I'm loving that tool you are using to drift your holes!
It's just something I made up on the fly. Thanks for watching and taking the time comment.
As always, nice work Glen. It's great to see you crafting another helpful tool; Booyah!
Rick, This tool is OK and works fine but I think someone like yourself could improve on this design. Thanks. Glen
Wenn man zu Beginn des Videos sehen muss wie jemand mit einem Meßschieber anreist. Sehr Professionell!!!
That;s a really nice, simple idea. Definitely easier to put together than a full blacksmith's magician.
David, For someone who has to make the odd tenon every now and then, this can work well. But it may not be a long term solution. Thanks for watching. Glen
wonderfully made mr. great for that odd size tenon on repair work
George, For sure, this can be tailored to suit your need. Thanks. Glen
Nice concept, I considered doing something similar but thought I would need to have a pin on each side im glad I saw this before going to all that extra effort
Having a pin on each side is probably better as that would reduce any side to side play. But it's definitely not necessary. Plus, there's more to get in the way... Thanks.
That is a good idea. I was thinking of making one and this looks like a simple little design that will do the trick quite nicely. Thank You....
Very nice tool, I'll be making one of those...Dave
Dave, I made a few small errors when making this but overall it works well. Thanks for watching and good luck in your work. Glen
Great stuff, really useful little tool, thanks for sharing!
As with most of my stuff, it's nothing fancy but works. Someone with more skill and imagination can improve on this idea. Thanks.
Nice job and very useful, thank you.
Phenomenal idea thank you for sharing this
Awesome! thanks for the tutorial...
Hi John, my pleasure. Thanks.
Que genial idea amigo gracias por tu tiempo, saludos desde PERÚ.
I'm glad you think this is a good idea. Thanks for watching and good luck in your work. Glen
I LOVE your anvil.
Awesome! Can't wait to make it
This is also a nice method of forging a custom rivet, just chop the finished tenon above the shoulder and you have a nice rivet!
That's a good idea - to use this to get an exact rivet diameter. Thanks.
I like that! Be making myself one
Will, Glad you like this. Thanks for watching. Glen
Круто,Класное видео .Успехов в дальнейших проектах .
I'm really glad you like this. Thanks for watching and for your support. Glen
That worked good Glen, might make one of them.
Len, There could be a little less side to side play in this tool but otherwise, it works well. Thanks. Glen
Yeah some sort of guide would be good, but hard to incorporate.
good to learn .very clean your workplace i like to see.
Aung, I don't have much choice, my workspace is so small it's best for me to be organized and tidy. Thanks for watching. Glen
Definitely going to be making this one! thanks man
Another excellent demonstration, thank you! But you have room for two other diameters.
Hey ho GST. A very good idea to do it that way. Making own tool creations is what I do too. Just to make the work easier with cleaner results. Big like GST. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Hi, I subbed to your channel and look forward to interesting content. As with most of my tools, this is nothing fancy but works well enough. Thanks
Нужная штука!спасибо за воссоздание утерянных секретов ковки. Это не завитки гнуть , настоящий кузнец.👍
Thanks for watching and for your nice comment. Glen
😘👍

Sei veramente un maestro,complimente.
This is just a simple tool but I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for watching. Glen
🎬 Excellent 📹 Video 🎥! _ Congratulations! 👍 🇧🇷
Fernando, Glad you like this. Thanks for watching. Glen
Thanks for another great video.
Chuck, My pleasure. I appreciate you watching. Take care. Glen
Enjoyed your video and gave it a thumbs up also
Russell, Much appreciated. Thanks.
I like your Anvils
My anvils are my own designs which I had made here in Taiwan. Glad you like them. Thanks for watching. Glen
How does it feel when hot scale goes into the open tops of those shoes?
going to make me one.Im getting into oyster knives and there is a old style knife i been wanting to recreate and it had a tenon type style(the neck area)
I'm glad you know you might be able to take something away from this to use in your own work. Thanks for watching. Glen
Very nice, well done.
Kurt, Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Glen
Pleasure's mine, Glen. Continued success...
top muito boa a ferramenta obrigado por partilhar
It's my pleasure. Thanks for watching and for your support. Glen
СУПЕР! МОЛОДЕЦ! !!👍✌
Thank you sir for your video.
It's my pleasure. Thanks for watching.
See I'm lazy, I would have sandwiched those two pieces in the vice and pre drilled my holes so I wouldn't have to do so much filing. 😂😂 That's pretty cool how it looked like you put a center drill in the end of it.
I was thinking about stacking the two pieces and drilling but I only use a hand drill and so thought if I skew things to one side it would be exaggerated over the longer drilling distance. Thanks. Glen
Medium carbon, is that like the 4140-5160 range? Definitely not something like s-7
Thank you !!!
I think that’s he jig is a really good tool...
Lee, I'm glad you like this simple tool. Thanks for watching. Glen
No ball busting if I steal that idea buddy
good idea, i will make one too
There's probably a few better ways to go about this but I found this easier and it produces good results. Good luck in your work. Thanks.
Simple, neat and effective tool. Good idea! BTW, is that 3/4" bar stock you are using? (19 mm, I guess, in your part of the world).
The square stock for this tool is 3/4". The round bar I form a tenon on is 14mm... Thanks for watching.
cool video
Thomas, Thanks for watching. Glen
Great looking vice, can you give more info on the make, model and manufacturer.
its a blacksmith's leg vice. they are all over ebay- in the UK anyway. people are falling over themselves to sell them!
Bear, My vise is actually a bench vise. It's a Record No.6 made in England. I have it mounted on a free moving stand and so it wobbles some when I use it. Thanks for watching. Glen
Thanks for sharing !
Thomas, It's my pleasure. Thanks for watching. Glen
Super Job

Easy working result

Rajesh, Thanks for watching and for your poetic comment. Glen
Great blacksmithing skills
The fact that you're hammering while you're sitting seems to make your hammering less powerful.
But I guess you have your reasons...
Sharon, I think it's right to say that my hammer blows are less forceful since I'm sitting. But I rarely ever strike with full force, even when I stand. I started sitting once I moved (back) to Taiwan and found my workspace limited. It really suits me. Thanks for watching, Glen
Glen GS Tongs thanks for your reply
Blacksmiths are sitting in some cultures.
Great anvil design!
What’s the hammer called you used to make the square hole?
Hi Mike, That's just a square, tapered punch. But if you don't have such a punch, you could also just take a piece of square stock, taper it a bit, and work it into a round hole and get the same result. Thanks for watching.
I like it.
Franco, Thanks for watching and commenting. Glen
That is a majorly different anvil, what is the style called and is it home made or factory made?
Another quality tool "Made in Taiwan"

What would have been wrong with a simple hinge at the end? I feel like you've made this far more 'involved' and open to inaccuracies than it needs to be.
Regards Mark in the UK
thecorbies This happens to be the way the man chose to make it. Didn’t see too many blacksmithing videos on your channel.
Mark, I actually thought about a hinge but for me personally, I thought that might not be as easy (though I guess this depends on which style hinge). I also felt a hinge, at least a hinge that I make, might not be as accurate as far as lining up the top and bottom pieces. But you're right, some sort of hinge would be perfectly fine. Thanks for watching and sharing. Glen
Jeff, The hinge idea isn't bad. I feel the criticism is constructive. But I do appreciate your support. Glen
Off topic question. Do you bring your tools (anvils) inside when not using them? Or do you treat them before the end of work with some oil or something to keep them so clean?
Drew, Good question. I leave most of my tools right where they are. While I am outside, the area I am working in is covered. I sometimes spray and wipe down my tools with WD-40. Also, frequent use will help prevent most rust. Thanks for watching. Glen
Nice. A place for forging should be directly top a hole on anvil. By this unwished moves of this jag will be eliminated. I guess...
This tool work fine but has a bit too much side to side movement. I will take your advice into consideration. Thanks for watching. Glen
Brother, using a vernier to scribe lines on metal?? Whow, that's seriously rough! I will definitely hide my vernier.
Pieter, I honestly thought that using a caliper to scribe was commonplace. But even if it isn't, I'd probably still do this so you're right to hide your tools from me! Thanks for watching. Glen
Just get yourself a combination square and a scriber with a carbide point brother.
Donde en cuentro el color blanco para mar car el hierro aquí no lo e podido en contrar
just trying to think of where i need to make a tenon in blacksmithing. any obvious answers i am completely missing??
Look at a few other videos of shaping reins on a pair of tongs, or the handle of a long spoon. Any time you want to reduce the work from non-round to a round section, or from round of a greater diameter to one of lesser diameter, this is a very useful tool for getting a consistent shape and size. Also, if you can't easily get steel stock in a size to match your punches and drifts, you can use this tool to make rivets of suitable size size.
@@keithrhodes7386 Thanks Keith, i was actually looking for a way to make my own rivets a week or two back. i found a different way but you are right, this would be a really good way for making them too. Thanks for the helpful advice!
For me persoanlly, I don't weld in my current shop and so a tenon like this (and accompanying mortise) can be used to join pieces. I will make a video of a simple mortise ad tenon joint soon. Thanks for watching. Glen
Keith, Thanks for your help in replying. Glen
What do you use as an anvil
As you can see, my anvils are small, block style ones that I designed and had made here in Taiwan where I live. Thanks for watching.
Couldn't a person also make this as a guiteen tool?
Might be a little more complicated to find a way to make the bottom interchangeable
Matthew, Yes and a guillotine tool would probably be better. I actually make and sell a guillotine tool but wanted to show another, quicker and easier way. Thanks for watching.
Nice :-)
Kido, Thanks as usual. Glen
Just put the two pieces of material next to each other and drill a hole through on the joint. I think this will be much faster and no gas used.
Pieter, I was going to drill with one price on top of the other but I only use a hand drill and thought that if I skew to one side this would be exaggerated over the longer drilling distance. Also, I needed to make this hole square in order to keep the pieces aligned when using. But I guess I could also have drilled both ends... Thanks.
True what you say brother, you can go skew with a hand drill. I must say that this small hollow was done very skillful. I can see it's not the first time that you did it. Happy day to you brother!
Glen What is the pen your marking with ? I've heard the guys talking about something like this .Thx Ray
Ray, That pen I use around the middle of the video is a paint pen / marker - good for marking steel. Most craft supply stores should sell these. I also use talc sticks to mark work but it wears off easily and is much less visible. But the talc sticks can mark work when it's hot whereas you would destroy the paint pen's felt tip if used on hot work. Thanks for watching.
Ha. I've ruined a couple sharpies like that.
Do you sell these
send me an anvil like this dude kkk
👍
Что это ? PLease write what is it ?
This is a simple tool for making tenons which can then be used to join pieces or used for decoration. Thanks for watching.
