you nailed it on the head. been DJing for 12 years now and everything you said is true, especially the "put your ego aside and give'em what they want" Part. DJing isnt about you, its their party, they wanna have a great night.
Hey dude, just thought I’d share a bit of my story, I taught myself on UA-cam, I’m a quick learner. Your mindset was a huge part of my current success . 1.5 years after purchasing an Rx2 and zero experience, I managed to land my first gig, for Amazon! 3 hours, 0 prep, just a positive and confident mindset...Thanks for the wise, kind words. It’s what the music is about. The corona period was just what I needed to focus on something constructive, instead of losing my mind. ☺️ I wish everyone the best on their journeys💙 See you all in Ibiza Don’t techno for an answer
This is so valuable, you are the only YT DJ (i found) that gives also the club organizer point of view and the "vibe" tips.. These are just priceless Thanks! Keep if up :)
One of if not thee best DJ lessons. I mainly play Dancehall and hip hop and I usually do longer sets. When I first started I was so eager to get ppl into what I was doing that I would play all the big songs early and run out of road. PPT (Pace, patients and timing) is just as important to me as transitions. Especially for the genre I play ppl focus more on song selection than transitions. Either way I love your enthusiasm, it always keeps me coming back even though We play different genres and different styles a DJ is a DJ props and love from Toronto.
very good video. The parts about understanding dynamics and the trade offs of sacrificing your own style definitely are relatable. I can tell you've been spinnin for a while!
this is hands down the most informative video on UA-cam on how to plan and do a set!! I felt and understood the whole lot and got what needs to be done on the night from this video, remarkable teaching Andrew . well done my friend!!
Just did my first few events, and I am learning to understand exactly what you're talking about! I love the channel thank you for the knowledge. -From Queens
around 11:30 or so you bring up a point I feel like doesn't get touched on enough. "How much of your style are you willing to compromise for the sake of the vibe" (not verbatim). I'm not always so flexible about this 😂. call me stubborn if you must... I'm a DJ, but I'm also a producer and I want to DJ mostly my tunes and tunes from other producers I respect/ want to share with the world . it takes me a long time to find a venue that wants what I have to offer, but I personally find it so much more satisfying when I "found my crowd" instead of trying to figure out what they wanna hear. I understand that doesn't work in all live music environments. But I love when I'm invited to play because people know my music and I don't get a single request all night bc they kinda know what to expect from me or trust me bc they've seen me before. amazing video as always :) ❤️ ✌️thanks friend!
Great advice, and couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m DJing my own halloween party with a large group of friends in a small flat. The last two I’ve done have been short sets with a few friends in between spotify playlists. But this time I’ve got 320 tracks ranging in genre, energy and tempo and I’m really excited! Making an early and peak playlist is the sound advice I needed to hear 2 weeks before the night. I’m currently in the process of mapping my cues but I’ll be separating them into those playlists as I do it now! Love your content bro, please keep spreading the love and knowledge ❤🎶🎧📚
@@ClubReadyDJSchool update: it’s the morning after and it went amazingly! The crowd responded really well despite having a few fuck ups here and there, but you’re right - a slightly off transition goes unmissed most of the time! Thank you again for all of your words of wisdom bro, keep it up! ❤️
Wow dude... your energy level is awesome. Tks for sharing all those amazing tips, experience and that passion of yours. It's contagious... every time I listen to you, I just want to hit those decks and play.... I'm not a DJ but got myself an awesome setup and do mix around with friends and all. It's been a blast and having guys like you share the love, it makes the overall experience of learning even better. Tks so much and continue what you're doing!
I wish I'd come across someone as inspring & passionate about DJing 30 years ago. I'm 54 now, and while I have dabbled with playing out, I somehow lost confidence just as things were starting to move for me. I became affraid of the responsibility, which led to poor life choices. I would say to anyone thinking of going pro in this field: Listen to Andrew. He is the sense and intelligence that I couldn't find in myself back in the 80s & 90s. If you have confidence issues, as I did, take it from a dreamer, who's still dreaming. Face your fear and make the dream your reality. This guy's passion, and education will show you the way.
Playing my first paid gig in the restaurant where I work as a server in 3 hours. 6pm till 11pm, house. Was nervous as …, but this video made me feel much more prepared. Thanks man!!
Played my first gig last night! Played at my favourite beach bar where I used to work as a tender. Completely had to compromise on style since the venue has a singalong vibe and the kids love the golden oldies. Literally chanting ABBA to get me to play Man After Midnight. But the energy was insane and the managers called us in for a beer today to talk about more sets coming up. Finished your club ready DJ corse just in time too. Thanks man!
Thank you for your videos. I have been making music for over 15 years but just started to DJ. You have helped fast track me to feeling confident with my current skill level ✊🏽
What I've learned so far playing out on the biggest club here in Norway is that its easy to play on the crowdy nights. When there is less people (due to increased covid) its way harder to play the right tracks. One song that they dont really like and off they go!
You plugging your dj course isnt something to be self conscious about. You're a Dj. You have things to teach as a DJ. Let the world knooow! Statistically more people will not be interested than interested, but the people that could be interested should know about it 🎉
Damn that makes sense !!! I always thought about starting a party with a banger and diving in right away...but it’s all about teasing them and catching them off guard
I’m a 17 year old beginner DJ, I’ve never mixed in a public place, I still make tons of mistakes, but next time I practice I’m gonna try planning it before hand 😀 I may even record it, who knows
The best I've known in crowd control was Dj Vibe playing deep house when he was resident in Kremlin (Lisbon). First only with the old school technics MK3 (4 of them) but then I still remember this one night when samplers and loopers started to have their place in club setups, I swear this mfkr was close to 30m with this 32b loop just playing with the equalizer and the crowd went crazy on this journey where he had us all right where he wanted to. Truly epic.
I’m working my way through your Controller to Club course and am loving it and learning so much! I love watching your videos too. You’re fun, super inspirational and make me laugh in every video 😂 definitely the best DJ teaching I’ve come across, as you keep things so simple and easy to follow. Keep being awesome 👏
Great content. I had a Wednesday pub residency for several years. The quieter first hour or so was given over to new tracks and less well known older stuff. I had several regular customers who always showed up early specially for the “music lesson”. Incidentally, a video item on microphone selection and technique would be so good for many new and aspiring pub/party/private function DJs.
Another great video mate. Starting DJing during quarantine, been following you ever since. Just got invited to play at a club in Miami Beach, really looking forward to it!
@@ClubReadyDJSchool Cheers! One question, I'm concious of how long I play tracks and don't want to play a track for too long (Unless the crowd is loving it)...but sometimes the tracks have long/quiet breaks in the middle, I don't want to play a long boring section but also don't want to be limited to just playing the last 2:30 mins of a track for the sake of skipping the boring middle part. Best to keep some high's or low's from the other track playing to liven the middle part up?
@@evns7142 Yes this'd work, or even looping a beat underneath or teasing in something cool. But hard to explain this in detail, you'd really benefit from my course, email me if you want a discount code: andrew@clubreadydjschool.com

Hey. How abaout 9 hours every 2 weeks in a small club only reacting to 90's comercial? How do You think that will work? By the way, i am in Germany.
another insightful video, thanks Andrew, however, do you have an 'auto playlist' for early in the event that plays itself, so that its not as tiring and gives you a bit of a break early on? I mean, if the floor is empty and most people are in the kitchen, yet you have to be 'on duty' at all times in a practically empty room?
Hey man, thanks so much for the video! I have just moved to New Zealand from the UK/Jamaica and I am DJing my brother in laws wedding. Obviously a very different culture here for wedding bangers. Would you have any playlists to share of what I can run to get the kiwi parents (baby boomers) going?

Nice! I have been enjoying yo videos for a while now thank you for all this info. I’ve been wanting to practice on these bad boys but I have no access.

I actually moved up the coast - near Byron bay.
If you dj in a techno club dw, the later you come, the better!;)
What happens when you feel like you did not a good job at the late slot or simply just incomplete with the set.
Try to reframe it and use is as motivation to not repeat the same mistakes and do better next time - the alternative is too depressing.
Please reveal the truth about why pro DJs never touch the tempo faders. Do they have it preset in Ableton or something? I am super curious about this one.
If they're not touching the tempo faders it means either: they are using sync or they are playing tracks that have the same BPM. Probably using sync.

Now I do have a question for you: How does someone who has been using a controller can switch to using the big boys (CDJ’s etc..) without any experience on the big boys AND for some (like my self) who doe not have access to any cdjs. I’ve been wanting to practice on these bad boys but I have no access.
Another great video, cheers buddy. What’s the name of the night your guy was putting on in the uk?
