I heard Talat Aziz's version and then decided to listen to this. My God! If ever someone asks what "zameen aasmaan ka farak", please point to these two versions. I leave it to you to decide which is "zameen" and which is "aasmaan"!
Talat Aziz is nowhere before him.. Except Jagjit and Chitra all Indian Gazal singers only pose themselves. even the poetry chosen by them in their cousins is very cheap music is very light and shallow. Like chitthi aai hai and jaam aur bottle level. Of course my personal view.. But Mehdi hasan is Ocean.. Listen his Woh jara si baat.. and many more you will forget Talat Aziz

Qateel Shifai's ghazal is exremly loveful one and unlimited ambition claiming from the lover. it is said when Khais was beaten by stones near Laila's castle on arabian streets Laila was repeatedly hurt and was crying due to the pain she felt. Laila begged the stone pelters saying "Husn hazir hai mohabbat ki saza pane ko Koi pathar se na maro mere divane ko" here concept is '"Sang tujh pe giray aur zaqm aye mujhe" sang khais pe giray aur zaqm aye laila ko Qateel is phylosophic poet. maulvi sahab canes Qais on his hand. But it is Laila's hand which was bleeding. High ranking Raag , classical music and Mahdi Hassan's silky voice decorated the dream ful Ghazal. Could be replicated but a similar Ghazl creation is impossible. Yeh Moujza Bhi Muhabbat is my favorate Ghazal.. M A Sattar
Madhav Deshpande - Yes, that’s what I felt too. Although he mentioned Raga Madhukauns as the melodic base, it is more like Raga Jog with Shuddha Nishaad, and both Komal Gandhaar and Shuddha Gandhaar... 👍🏼
I share the view of one and all that none can beat Mehdi Hassan as far as Ghazal singing is concerned. But please listen to the same song by Jagjit Singh. You will be mesmerized.

As usual Mehdi Hassan rendered this ghazal beautifully. However, in a different style and tune altogether Jagjeet Singh gave a rendition in Abu Dhabi ca. late 1970's of which I have a tape that I like very much.
