  • Arbor day 2020 has arrived!
    Have you planted any trees lately?
    Take a look at the selection of seedlings I just received from the Arbor Day Foundation as appreciation for donating to the cause.
    They are going in the ground... but first some bonsai styling.
    Enjoy!
    See more bonsai shenanigans on my website.
    Head to BonsaiEcho.com and BE Inspired.
    See you there!

    Glad you are back. Appreciate both your being self taught and promoting a 360 degree approach to styling

      Thin but full of potential. If one so chooses to look for it.

    I like your decision regarding the format moving forward. I learn so much just watching you work. Thanks

    Yes i have. Together with my kids. Every fall we collect chestnuts, acorn, beechnuts and other seeds and plant them. Also we collect the seedlings from our garden, that sprout in spring. Up to now i used them for Bonsai. But this year they got to much and we went to our forest (it's our property) and planted them. It have been about 70 seedlings of chestnut, acer platanoides and acer pseudoplatanus, oak, birch, willow and beech. In our area we are restructuring our woods. Cause there has been a mono culture of spruce trees. Now many of them are dying cause in a spruce mono culture it's easy for the bark beetle to spread and propagate. So we are trying to plant many different species to decrease the loss of woodlands by pest that are specialized on a species. (Yes i know, most pests are specialized on a species) it's actually as fun as doing Bonsai.

      In many ways, that could be more fun!

    I love ordering from them. the beech trees I got from them a few years ago were thickened up in ground and have been transitioned to bonsai. I hope to have that video by fall.

    I love dogwoods too. Partially because I'm from Missouri, partially because they're beautiful. I got one for Arbor day last year, and even made a cutting out of its top. I think the lady thought I was gonna kill it. She kept telling me how they like shade, lol. (Tho they actually do like the sun too, ironically)

    • @BonsaiEcho
      @BonsaiEcho  4 роки тому +1

      Dogwoods are typically understory trees in their native habitats and will have a loose and gangly growth that way. They do good in the sun as well and will produce more dense growth with often smaller leaves that happen to have tremendous autumn colors. Much tougher trees than many give them credit for.

    Already said it! I love your approach to Bonsai. Live is hard and restrictive enough. Let's do our hobby Bonsai how we like it, not how others want us to do it. It does not mean we sould not discuss styling, and trees and flaws. But in the end the grower should have the decision and good feelings! It's always about how criticism is served and not making the own oppinion and taste as a law for everyone else. Art is diverse, otherwise it's not art any more.

      Well said. The challenge is unlearning the need for validation that is impressed at an early stage of human development. That need for acceptance can lead to jealousy, greed, envy, and all those wasteful feelings that are so often seen nowadays. I feel I have made good improvements in my own self confidence over many years of believing in myself. I still to this day have to actively train a positive mindset. Part of my way of learning is to teach and that is a driving force in my life. It’s been a wonderfully rewarding journey so far. So glad you have become part of it!😊

      The ginkgoes still have a shot. If they don’t work out this time, I may give a new set one last try this winter. Probably not though🤢. They stink.

    I got the same thing last year for myself. Hawthorne didn't do anything but redbuds and dogwood did just fine.

      Washington is an at will employment state so no one is forced to work here. Thank goodness for that. I choose to maintain employment right now since health insurance is ridiculously expensive otherwise, and not having it when I need it has the potential to cost everything I own. I will get back to self employment when I can though.
      Take care of yourself, Michael.

    jared I wouldn't have wired them, put them in your growing beds and when big enough plant them against the fence overlooking the road.

    • @BonsaiEcho
      @BonsaiEcho  4 роки тому

      That would be striking!

      Jared think of all those extra birds you will have taking the moss off your Bonsai hahahaha, No don't just enjoy the birds.

    • @BonsaiEcho
      @BonsaiEcho  4 роки тому +1

      Plenty of birds already and I don’t want more shade over my bonsai benches, but it certainly would’ve made a beautiful attraction in that area🙂.

    How are these doing?

    • @BonsaiEcho
      @BonsaiEcho  3 роки тому

      They are all twisted up and planted in a raised bed. I’ll let them grow there for another year or two and then work on the roots and put them back in the ground.
