I think the story of this one connects really well to that of John Carpenter's. There were a lot of details in the movie that were well thought out; the two-headed monster, the axe in the wall, how Lars was the only member in the group who didn't speak any English and therefore got killed over it at the American camp. People say that the Thing moved much faster in this movie than in John Carpenter's and I agree, but other than that the details were really awesome in my opinion.
I must admit, the film could have been better, but I still like it and consider it a prequel to 1982 rather than a cashgrab.
i always sing ( joik) this on my way home from the pub.
These complacent people had no idea as yet what they had disturbed. We are the dominant species on earth, but who knows what could be out there in space...
oh the memories
Well its not really one of their folk songs, it was the 1980 Norwegian Eurovision Entry :)
Catchy tune, I speak english, and I've learned this song
I know it all besides one line. Mostly from ear, I can't seem to find the lyrics to it😔
I was so pissed when I heard there was a remake of The Thing. When I watched it & found out it was a prequel, I was completely thrilled! It is not a "follow-up" to the greatest movie of all time, it is a PREquel. The follow-up will come later and your expectations will be way too high & then all you people can come back again and bitch and whine about how terrible it was. See you then.
Having reversed the order, I taped this one first and then Kurt Russel's second. Now, everything falls into place and can easily see a third sequel, easily. Both movies are great.
Absolutely, I agree. Hopefully a sequel will be about the Thing getting out of Antarctica and making into civilized lands!
@@barrymayhem4128 but didnt the thing get destroyed in the end of the thing 1982

(If preferable, I might make a version not showing the dog for a split second at the end, or the pause/forward buttons.)
That’s not from 2011, its 1951
I know a lot of people hate pre sequals. but I think this movie had to have one. isn't that what John Carpenter wanted?

Alright, alright- eventually ;P
I think the main reason people don't like this movie is that it's a disappointing follow-up to a great movie. When you get down to it, the decision to make a prequel was really just an excuse to rehash the original without calling it a remake.
Maybe so, I still enjoyed it quite a lot though. I just wish they had been more careful with it, as the guy who killed himself for example, is not in the same pose as in the original.
As far as consistency is concerned, my biggest beef is the two-headed monster. In the original, you can plainly see that it doesn't have two heads, but one head splitting in half, which foreshadows the movies theme of mistaken identity.
Do it!!
"It's a great movie" - Motivate for us all objectively what merits the claim that this is a great movie.
I thought this was a great movie. Don't know why everyone so critical.
Describe in as exact detail as you can why this movie is to be considered great, please.
Legolas Fornhed Dolk they don’t need to.
They like it because they do.
