"I'm convinced that people road ride just to stop at random little stores in the middle of nowhere and eat junk." Sums up my riding style up perfectly! I couldn't have said it better Syd!
I ride road cause it's still riding and not all my friends ride mountain. And hell yeah stopping at some store in the middle of no were is awesome lol. Besides the more time out riding the less time I have to home chores.
Marji will be 10-13 hrs for Mackey and 13-15 for Syd!! Can’t wait to race with you guys !!! The ramba trails are my favorite ones in all of Marquette! Super gnarly
Point of clarification for the interwebs. We (906AT - Marji Gesick) do not bill ourselves as the hardest single day race in America. Jeremiah Bishop did. 👊🏼 See y'all soon.
Confirmed, Syd! One of my favorite parts of Road Riding --"I'm convinced that people road ride just to stop at random little stores in the middle of nowhere and eat junk." Congrats on the Century Club!
Both of you need to seriously consider the Butte 100 or 50. Butte, Montana end of July, and on the CDT. Ask Tinker about the race( he says its one of the most epic and hard 100s ever.. The 50 takes 4.5 Hours for the top pros, and the 100 double that plus a bit. It's on the Continental Divide Trail and the 50 is about 9K climbing and the 100 is 12 or 13K if I remember correct. Incredible race averaging 7-9K altitude band for the whole thing. Incredible, Ive done the 50 3 times. Won the Masters over 50 once and earned my Butte Copper Cup, (Thats the goal Win and earn that cup!...like the belt buckle for that Colorado race ....) you will love it!
I'm amazed that you are fully back in the saddle and riding 100 miles, after having a debilitating nerve damage injury just 2 - 3 years ago, Syd. Talk about perseverance and overcoming adversity!
I can sort of relate to your pain, I recently supported my wife when she was doing a 200km MTB ride here in Curacao. She a long, very tough day but she did it !!
I volunteer and have done the 50 MG and tried the 100 so I will be one of the people greeting you at the finish. This race is no joke but u both got it. Beware how that Todd likes to reward your hard work with some Bonus miles….. and the last 15 are the hardest by far. No easy miles on this one.
I really enjoyed this road trip as a change of pace and a cool idea! I’d love to go on a croas-country trip someday, but it’d be fun to see you all do it too. I know there’s a trans America trail or something, but maybe that’s more for motor vehicles? I figured on this video you’d be like “We’re going with the Maxxis ... tires for all the broken glass and dead elk...”
WOW!!! I feel really GREAT!! Ridden I can't remember how many 100 milers on the road and one 200 miler in one day out of Tucson many years ago!! Oh yeah plus two Ironman, not bad for an old man. Go Syd go!!
I am a Century rider for almost 2 years. My longest ride is 200km and we finished it by 13 hours. And also did a 100 miles in 8 hours. Its not all about race, but endurance.
About 10 years ago I entered a 100 km mountain bike race so I rode 100 km on my road bike and doubled that time to get an idea of how long it would take. Needless to say it took about an hour longer which had my worring at the other end that I had died out in the bush,
Such a fun video! After your sponsorship video aired and a few videos after that, I went and bought myself an Ari e-MTB. I love it. My kids love it. Everyone wants one. Thanks!
Nice work! Totally agree that knocking a century out before a century event does wonders for the mental game. Have you guys started training for the Le Mans .5 mile run start yet? Haha I just remembered this and am going to start training rides with a half mile run soon lol.
Love to take my relatives to the gorge bridge and walk to where you guys stopped and looked down...way down , and watch the expression on their faces when an 18 wheeler drives by and shakes the whole bridge!😅 Awesome ride!!
enjoyed this video - I have to admit, I got a little nervous between around 19:30 - 20:00 looked like some pretty loose gravel/rock at some impressive speed. Well done.
Sorry, Syd, but I have to agree with Macky. I worked in a deli for several years which I think makes me a professional sandwich maker and his process was correct. Congrats on the Century!!
I finished the Marji 100 in 24 hours 27 minutes back in 2021. The last 30 miles is not really a bike ride. Get ready to suffer, and keep pushing. Good luck!
I've ridden 40 miles on the road once...and I think it took me 5-6 hours...it was a loooong time ago...and Im old and fat...wow..your state has a really good wide shoulder to ride on...I wish mine did...thats why I always worry about people hitting me when I road ride..they either dont care..are looking at their phones or have something against people who road ride.
The ARI's gravel bike looks pretty nice! I chatted with them at Sea Otter (dropping that I heard about them from ya'll). If you folks get some more dirt miles on them, I'd be curious about your thoughts. Not that it's exactly "your thing", but I'd still be curious. Peace!
Cruces can be sandy depending on the season and weather, but there's some cool stuff. Been a long time since I rode there though... They do a race, Horny Toad Hustle, there in the Fall.
@@sydandmacky … Thanks for the info. Once I receive my new bike from Ari, I’ll be head back west. Safe travels and ride safe. Y’all do a Great Job w/ the videos and ride. Cheers Dave
I forgot how weird NM horizontal traffic lights are. I have a color blind friend who gets freaked out driving in NM because of them. My experience, from my faster, fitter days, is that 50 miles on a MTB is equivalent to 100 miles on a road bike.
Did my first and last on-road 100-miler with 5,000 feet of climbing at age 15. Just wanted to see what it was going to be like when I progressed to the Senior class in the American Bicycle League racing back in the sixties. Was totally happy that NORBA off-road cross-country races were usually no more than 25 miles in the eighties...Just right! LOL
about the marji... you need to decide you are finishing it, otherwise there is a good chance you won't. and you can ride the same distance as the MG100 all you want, on good ol' single track too. ...but it ain't the same. being physically fit is not good enough. work on your mental, it's way more important. hope this comment helps.
Depends, I'd say we have to take breathing breaks between words when we get to threshold range (250ish for Syd, 330ish for me). A lot of this ride though was at lower wattages because we weren't racing
My record around Balaton is 212km and I died there! 9:30 net, gross 11. But that was different because there were a lot of shadows. It's not really there. :(

So excited to see you guys do the Marji
My wife and I have these exact kind of arguments all the time. 24 years we've been doing it now. I thought we were the only ones
You're unique, just like everyone else 🙂
❤❤❤ just kind of came across your channel… three minutes in and I’m in!!! So looking forward to your adventures.. lots to catch up on!
Marji will be 10-13 hrs for Mackey and 13-15 for Syd!! Can’t wait to race with you guys !!! The ramba trails are my favorite ones in all of Marquette! Super gnarly
You doing the 100 this year Mike? Podium on the 50 not good enough 😂?
Having a top tube snack bag was the best part of my Marji 50 setup. Anything to be more comfortable or convenient will make your day that much better.
Point of clarification for the interwebs. We (906AT - Marji Gesick) do not bill ourselves as the hardest single day race in America. Jeremiah Bishop did. 👊🏼 See y'all soon.
Noted! For what it's worth, though, we trust JB's assessment :)
You guys have made some big gainz the last couple years. Basically since you bought the house it seems your training has really ratcheted up!
I really really miss green chile from that area!!! Thanks for the awesome video!
Awesome job you two! Love your new bikes!
I came for the 100-mile ride through the beautiful NM highlands, but stayed for the cat cameo and burritos!
As a Dutch guy so proud "Stroopwafels" is now a word in (parts of) the US 👍🏼
I'm in for the 50 and it's gonna be wild.
Confirmed, Syd! One of my favorite parts of Road Riding --"I'm convinced that people road ride just to stop at random little stores in the middle of nowhere and eat junk." Congrats on the Century Club!
All western dirt (decomposed granite) roads = washboards. Always. Great ride guys

Great video as always! And Macky was right about the sandwich bread... : )
You two made that look fairly effortless - a testament to your training! Good luck at Marji!

it's been a wild few years, thanks for the kind words xx
@@sydandmacky good on ya Syd, you're a champ.
It was awesome to meet you guys at the GJ Crit last night (I was the guy in the sling). Good luck in the 40 today!
Great to meet you too. Heal up quick!
I can’t help flinching when I see you riding highway shoulders with no lights or even high vis kit.
i love my bar end mirror ( goofy looking but cant ride without)
Love those snack bags. 😉 My wife is from NM, and we luv the area of this ride. You both made that look easy. Did Macky hit that Elk? 🤣
The air line takeoff block is straight genius - thanks for the idea!
Really enjoyed this video. Especially the way it flowed and the side stories. Thanks to both of you...

The best thing about your videos is they bring back memories of the many rides I've done as well as make me want to go for a ride and create more!!
Awesome!! A low overhead trip. You saved a lot of gas money. 😂
The bikes look beautiful. Nice tubes shape and and very nice paint job! Congratulations on the ride!
You guys are amazing! Well done!
#FRESHMEAT
Congrats on your first Century Syd!
Century rides on a hybrid over an unimproved abandoned rail line (no rails or ties) through the countryside, some of my fondest memories.
WOW!!! I feel really GREAT!! Ridden I can't remember how many 100 milers on the road and one 200 miler in one day out of Tucson many years ago!! Oh yeah plus two Ironman, not bad for an old man. Go Syd go!!

Strong work on the century ride. Nice to see Jack again.
Those bikes look AWESOME!

Eagerly awaiting #TeamJackie merch 😻😻

As always, excellent video. Ditch those plastic water bottles for BIVO bottles; you won’t regret it.
Mole after a ride like that...hell yes.
Awesome sauce !

It's so cute that that little discussion about bread is what you guys consider a fight lol
12:33 Welcome to our road cycling world 😂 🍟🥨🍕🍔
Welcome to the century club :-)
What a great video!I don’t ride road or gravel but that was fun 👌
Nice ride guys, makes me want to get back and put some miles down 😅

Team Macky on the bread!
Top tube bags do look geeky but I suppose the are functional 😊
You guys are silly , amazing,
Put a bottle cap headset holder on my SS mtn bike also 😊
The "awww yeah!" SYD said right at about 15min is the exact moment she realized she likes road riding
My buddy and I did 13mi today. So, same 👍
I'll have a grilled cheese sandwich waiting for you at The Chaos Station.
Those chip seal roads are brutal slow compared to asphalt tarmac. Compared to smooth road everything feels like a headwind.
I subscribe to the Macky sandwich bread paradigm!
Made it look way too easy. Your new bikes look great 🇰🇾
if i did a 200km rode ride last year 3 years into cycling you guys got this easy peasy!!
I’m with Macky on the bread 🙋🏻♂️

Been through those towns but by car 😅
Y’all need to look at the Jug Mountain 9 to 5, The Jackass, and the High Cascade 100 if you’re looking for a good trio!
Does the long run of the hose make a difference with the air compressor or is it negligible?
We haven't noticed any decrease in performance from it
Nice to have tail wind most of the way. With headwind, 100 miles can be 8 hours
16:50 kinda weird seeing you take a snack break on the bridge from Natural Born Killers
Medjools are the best!!
I liked this video because it looks like it really fucking sucks to make this
thank you for taking the effort to show us your journey :)
How does the news about Stages effect you guys?

Damn… now I want pollo mole’ !
What bottle cage are you running with the tool storage?
us.76projects.com/collections/on-bike-storage/products/thepiggy
what brand of camera do you use whilst filming around at home?
This one: amzn.to/3QJe2pM
Just curious. When you are riding along and talking to the camera, what watts are you pushing.

But that was different because there were a lot of shadows.
It's not really there. :(
Marji is not gravel tho.. its like half brutal techy single track
The Strava time estimates for a route are hilarious. Overly pessimistic on the road, absurdly optimistic on tech trails.
So true haha
That's exactly why we road ride, going to a cafe or ice cream stand in the middle of nowhere.
Macky was right about the bread. Syd total wasn't understanding that it matters what side you spread on.
What spot were the burritos from?
Toribios
As fit as you two are, the difference between 60 miles and 100+ miles is just a matter of nutrition and hydration.
Marji is a whole different beast. A systematic pain train designed to break your mind, body, and soul
Do Megavalanche in July
also 12:30 yes ;P
I spy them Big Sky Biggie socks. 😍
Well spotted!
For the Marji. Just remember. If its labeled as a token, take one. Even if its a sucker.
honestly, accidentally losing/eating a token is one of my biggest concerns lol
Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon!!😂.
