    Wonderful blending of two styles, North Indian and South Indian ways of playing a raga in violin by two legends and their accompanying artists, so harmonious, to remember for ever.

    Pure ecstasy ! For me, this is a bench-mark rendition of Yaman, given the task of soulful synthesis of so characteristically different traditions of music !

    Jogs alap is way more considered and exponentially working on each note. Sub’s alapana as I characteristic in Carnatic is a bit haywire running on different threads of thoughts without due consideration to the methodical elaboration of notes.

    • @AnanthNat
      @AnanthNat 2 роки тому

      Apparently you haven't listened to much carnatic music. I see what you mean though.
      In CM the alap is built not necesaarily in a step by step way, resting on each note. More focus is on phrases, and the progression is marked typically resting only on Panchamam and upper Shadjam. Moreover, here LS wanted to structure his essays to be in sharp contrast with the stepped Hindustanic way.

    To me, it looks like Dr. L. Shankar (younger brother of Dr. L. Subramaniam) on the
    second violin. //Gopal//

      Not even close.
      As far as I know they have never actually played together professionally onstage aside from when they were children.
      There is a serious riff between them.

      It is LSub.
      Shankar's solo playing style (I.e., when not accompanying) is quite different from LSub's. Not to mention, their faces are different too! You were probably thinking so because of Sub's clean shaven face.
      By the way - there is no second violin here - it's a duet they are playing. If anything, Sub is hogging more of the time and space.

      @@songsabai3794 The trio of L Vaidyanathan, L Subramaniam and L Shankar have given a few LP records and tapes which hold iconic status for their fans now. Shankar, the youngest might have been 18 then. Shankar has been studying / living in the US since his early twenties.

    Dr Subramaniam is technically much better. But it is clear that though individually both are playing great, their concept of ragrup are different leading to heterogeneity.

    • @rishikeshkashyap248
      @rishikeshkashyap248 3 роки тому +1

      It's not fair to compare and say who is better. There a lot of carnatic aspects in l subramaniam's play. kalyani raga and yaman although same but the taste we get from different styles are way different. When you take pure music and melody prespective, how fast you play dosen't matter. but the way it has been presented and how you think of it as a music matters.
      jog sir was playing pure Hindustani and LS sir carnatic and thats is this jugalbandi is all about. two diff musicions, how they think of it and their take with their raga and style.

    (1) Too much percussion... dominating & killing the overall melody of the violins!
    (2) Ghatam and the third violin are not needed in this ensemble. (3) Mridangam
    and Tabla artists should 'restrain' themselves playing at the same time! (4) They
    should accompany their respective 'main' artists... and not cross over! //Gopal//
