Yow, in the early-mid 90's I was a real ornery fellow who was utterly unlikeable. Yours was the music of choice for many of my adventures. Now, I'm moved in a sentimental sort of way when I get word of what you are up to. Godspeed, man.
This is really neat to see David in an everyday setting. I was fortunate to see The Jesus Lizard live five times. He's like a wild animal. Amazing shows. At one of them, he was hanging out before they went on, shooting pool. Some guy bought him a boilermaker, David took the shot and handed the beer to some other dude. Super nice guy, really relaxed and funny, then just goes nuts on stage.
paulvo245 - I lived both in Chicago and in Evanston (the city north of Chicago) off and on from the mid-‘80s through mid-‘90s, and I got to play Scrabble with Monsieur Yow, once … he was headed to an event, I don’t know of what sort, but I used to do more than a little day-drinking, so I was a lot bolder than usual and just approached him wordlessly with the coffeeshop’s Scrabble box, grinning probably lopsidedly, where he was sitting, not 100% sure it was even him, and he was really down for a game, pushed out a chair with his boot and invited me to sit, and got really into it. He was totally trouncing me, too, when his “people” (a young woman, I assume a publicist) came to get him for … I think she said “the signing?” although I’m not quite sure … which is how I realized it was really him and learned he was headed somewhere, and he apologized and shook my hand, and I conceded the game and he said no, that he’d had to leave, so it was his forfeit and I’d won, and I thanked him for a good game and he thanked me again, and then he slung his jacket over his shoulder and walked out, trailed by the publicist, to where a young man held open a dark SUV door for him on … ugh, it was either on Milwaukee or on North, but I now forget which … and he and then the young woman climbed in back, then the young man hopped into the front passenger seat, and they sped off! This was before cellphone cameras were ubiquitous, so I wasn’t able to snap a photo of the final board, but I swear hand-to-heart, he at one point played “qi” … a sign of things to come! Really stellar guy, would be so happy to meet him again. 🙂❤️🤘🏼
see that's the kind of story I want to hear on UA-cam. most people start with I'm 43 years old and I saw them once and it was cool great memories I miss those times and I just want to puke
thanks for making this, i am the proud owner of number 11. just saw a friends copy and his has loads of bees in it, now this video makes some sense of that.
smart guy selling people cement with crap in it, lol. He is so calm while crafting, hard to believe it's the same guy that screams "Get her outta the truck, Get her outta the truck!"
He's not celling cement with crap in it. He's selling audio that comes packaged WITH cement with crap in it. I really dug it...funny, clever, kinda arty and very "yow".
Isn't Yow also a certified chef, or at least a great fucking cook? I seem to remember reading that when I was a teenager and first getting into Jesus Lizard in the early 90's.
@Mark Wright hasta provide indentations for BALLS tho ;0 for two-ben extra-worth. ;) wanna order one someday; hope i remember my requests ;)... drive a screw in it, buddeh!! ;0 ;0 one-a my co-workers, 'millen' but fancies himself a hard-rocker dood... i keep challenging him.. "yah, but have you ever listed to -jesus lizard- man?!" ;0
I’ve always enjoyed Yow’s outsider art. His drawings, photos, and made objects, all great,
It's weird seeing Yow this calm with his craft. He is an absolute madman when he performs and one of my favorite front men of all time.
I know right, his voice don't even sound the same.
