R.I.P Mikio,You will be forever in our hearts
RIP God of Smile. ua-cam.com/video/o0ERg64grnY/v-deo.htmlm48s ;_;
??????
The guitarist Mikio Fujioka then performed recently died.
Cry Babies which one is mikio?
the lowest one with a black guitar, playing solo.
"I don't know what I'm about to see" -- Oh come on Stephen, you've binge-watched all their live gigs on UA-cam just as I have.
zJoriz he he'd never seen them before the show.
He was making a joke..
shallowlord the first three rows were mostly BM fans that waited all day to be up front. Prior to the taping, as the band went onstage, we were yelling our heads off. Babymetal and the band were receiving louder applause than any of the other scheduled guests, BEFORE they even went on... I think he might have been eluding to that. This 'obscure band from Japan' shows up, and the audience was screaming and cheering this 'unknown' act
+ZjORIZ
LMAO!
i gotta admit.... once you fall into that babymetal youtube rabbit hole... you're going to be down there for a very long time.
i'm not sure how many times i've actually seen that live version of road to resistance, or even that new joint elevator girl in nashville..... or that epic live mashup of catch me if you can? you get the idea...
*Their ONLY American TV appearance. Thanks Steve for having the guts to put one one of the best acts in the world on your show*
You comment here a lot, huh?
Colbert is one of the enemy. It is simply ironic that he got Babymetal on his show.
@@wave8359 Indeed
@@wave8359 What did he do?
@@wave8359 Indeed!
imagining some people at the show having no idea whats going on cracks me up for some reason
The Fox God, as revealed to KOBAMETAL, is a genius!
BABYMETAL RULES!
ChrisBrengel hell yeah dude.
That’s what I kept thinking too! I kept imagining some old conservative going into cardiac arrest. 😂
I could imagine that because I'm sure most of us had that same WTF moment when first seeing and hearing them. I grown to love them by the end of the first song I heard.
The crowd went ape-shit when Colbert introduced them. I think it's safe to say they had a lot of fans in the audience.
I love when they do their signature, "see you!“, and exit, stage left!
Stage right, audience left.
@@johnschultz7765 Thanks that's what I came in here to say
Completely ignores Colbert xD
yes
@@johnschultz7765 I'm pretty sure they left stage right lol
Peoples reaction to this who were just watch the show at home like they do every night and then bam, the most Japanese thing ever pops up and melts your face off with this hard core metal music and also melts your heart to see 3 adorable Japanese girls singing about chocolate. This definitely would have been a shocker to the normal viewer
It totally was. I was in awe and bewilderment.
haha, this was amazing, too bad it was when colberts ratings were in the shitter.
Even for Japan this is pretty abnormal :p
@@NneonNTJ nope. It is very Japanese.
@@DJGeorgeDisco Nope, not at all :p
That smile by Mikio, the guitarist gets my heart every time so sadddddd RIP BabyGod
I noticed his beautiful smile on the first Baby Metal show I saw .
same.
😢😢
Easily the best 4 minutes in American network television history.
What about super bowl 51?
Nah
2ND Down from The Beatles debut , Feb 9, 1964
I agree, we need more of this
Oh absolutely
The fact they sound that good live and while on a talk show is incredible
You never know when live musical performances are just lip/motion synced to the pre-recorded track. It happens a lot on shows like America's Got Talent. You aren't actually hearing live music.
@@tap836 Well Babymetal sings live no matter what.
Vocals here are clearly dubbed. There're parts where there're multiple levels of vocals but only one girl singing. The instruments also seem dubbed because the guitarists fingers don't line up with the audio of the solo.
Babymetal goes by the motto "Don't settle for cheap imitations, get the genuine article".
@@ClaudiusPtolemy It's live. The guitarist is playing exactly what is heard, maybe you have lag on your end. There are definitely pre-recorded guide vocals being cut into the live mix (both lead and background) along with the live vocals. This is common for US late night TV musical performances. Also, these shows usually employ great live sound engineers and state of the art mixing equipment to ensure what the home viewer is watching sounds as close to an actual studio recording as possible.
My wife LOVES this band, maybe I'll surprise her with show tickets for her 60th birthday ;)
I think my reply comes too late, but DO IT! :-)
@@talaniel it is very late lol
That's awesome! I hope I can meet a girl who is a fan of this band like I am and would go to their shows together with me.
so... how's that going, sir?
do it!now,yestreday...!
Haha the drummer at 2:08 God damn it's so refreshing to see a band that just loves what they're doing
I agree love the smile on the guitarists face. If I were in this band I'd be smiling from ear to ear. Its so much fun to watch and listen to, it must be great to play in the band.
that's actually what i love the most. you get the sense that the kami band GENUINELY LOVE to be there!!! i know these guys have been in some really hardcore metal outfits all their lives, have mastered their instrument and gained the respect of metalheads all over the world... and for them to just go out, play this poppy metal and just have fun with it? cmon!!! i know metal is a "super tough," "i'll fucking kill you" type music that demands authenticity.... but if you can't just go out and have some fun? it's sad...
every live song i've ever seen performed by the kami band... you can tell that they're just having a blast!!! embracing the whole silly thing... and it's a fun sight to see.
RIP Fujioka San..... :,( ....i know he's somewhere out there smiling down on these girls as they continue to grow, proud of his bandmates for helping them become one of the biggest bands in the world.
It is also a trick musicians use to keep the rhythm. Sometimes in other videos, you can see Moa or Yui doing the same to keep their routines on time. But the expression on his face does show he loves the music.
The bass player too
@@Darylrb1983 BOH!!!
This made me smile like an idiot. I loved the end where he's doing a sign off to ad break and they're still doing the rehearsed "See you!" behind him. For some reason that amused the hell out of me!
Yeah then his look. like wut the. then claps and looks up. funny
I know, would have loved to see a few more seconds of his reaction.
Because they know they are better than some random late nigh show in USA.
Colbert's expression at 4:12 is AWESOME! You know he's thinking "WTF was that?!?"
Derek Armsden ha the see you then walk off stage in unison. someone made a video of just their see you's lol
5 seconds after the song starts
Me: “holy smokes this is live!”
This is one of the most surreal bands I've ever seen.
Japan has no shortage of surreal/absurd artists.
Then you haven't seen Finnish hard rock band Lordi! my mind was blown more than Hiroshima.
+Yukiko Asakura - >>my mind was blown more than Hiroshima.
Check out Gwar.
Or Gorgoroth
Or any other Black Metal Band
@@AsakuraYukiko And the award for the most inappropriate joke goes to you.
I have to say, the people in this audience don't know how lucky they were to see this group in probably the most intimate setting they have played in since then. I came across this video while looking at others a couple months ago and since then I have probably watch every video they have been in. I especially like watching others as they do their reaction videos discovering Babymetal as I did. I have also bought both of their albums and their Live at Budakan red night, black night. I am 55 years old and I find their music and live performances especially exciting and fun. I have listened to their music and/or a video every day since discovering them. I can't wait for what comes next.
I can assure you a fellow fan named Brian still talks about this show. So not to worry, they are aware.
Excited for what comes next??
Just Yui wait, hehehe....
Best!
~Yui Metal
I love how even the band was just having the time of their life!
This has become one of my favorite Babymetal performances. The small stage ensures that all the members and the Kami band are almost always in view together. The mix really highlights the bass and drums. The girls are on point as usual, Boh on bass going absolutely nuts, Mikio's (RIP) smiles, the drummer "singing" along, and all of them pumping their fists to fire up the crowd all really make this a special performance to me. So high energy and so happy. I love it.
Good point! It is cool seeing them all and seeing all of the dance
Back when the Kami Band were allowed to have a personality. I miss those days.
The fact that they’re wearing kyokatabira makes it even more metal. For the westerners, I’m talking about the white clothes they have on, which are traditional Japanese clothes you put on corpses before burial or cremation.
I'm nearly 60 years old, and this is the greatest thing I've ever seen!
I CRIED BECAUSE THIS WAS A MASTERPIECE.
Saud Alsanad I know what you mean! I tear up every time I watch them.....either you get it or you don’t......
You should see them strut their stuff on a big stage!
The BEST BABYMETAL line up. The joy in ALL their faces. RIP Mikio 😔
Yeah, darn, darn.
Man, for such tiny girls, they have a gigantic presence on stage!
2:07 / 3:43 nobody enjoy more than drummer singing pa ra papa paa rapapapaa rapapapapaa papapaa
Ash Kresnik also the guitarrist on the left smiles a lot
Ash Kresnik lol I was like "wow the drummer is having a fun time"
You must to see Boh, the bassist in Karate Live UK Download. Rocking and jumping as high as the girls.
Mikio is always smiling like he's really enjoying it in every thing i've seen.
You can never doubt that everyone on stage is having the time of their lives every second they're performing. I need to see them live.
the audience was so lucky to see this live
how many people starting cracking up / smiling just from Stephen saying: "...I'm not sure what I'm about to see..."?
A lot of him saying that had to do with us. Duro.g the commercial break, as they were serring up, we kept yeloi g and screaming, and calling out Ohmura, Mikio, Boh, and Hideki as they came out to soundcheck. When the three girls came out to take their places, we all obviously went berserk.
So here waa as this, "obscure Japanese band, that had the first three rows screaming like crazy BEFORE they even started.
I'm sure Steven had no idea why.
@Ray B after they said 'See you, ' and walked offstage, we started chanting "One more Song!" He looked confused as hell
I remember watching this on TV and being SO CONFUSED, and here I am years later 🥲
the "see you" kills me every time.
can't believe I live in a world where this happened
The lead singer has no business having a voice that powerful. Absolutely phenomenal 🙌🏼
There's a UA-cam video of them doing Road to Resistance to a Japanese audience when Suzuka was 16 (IIRC). Several thousand people and she had them all in the palm of her hand. Amazing talent. Amazingly strong voice for someone so young.
atleast those engineers at the Colbert show can mix.. such a good mix.. impressed.. usually late night shows have bad sound..usually disappointed. but man that was great sounding. KAMI band oh man so great.. of course girls were fantastic as always.
maybe babymetal brought their tech team too.
+Okik E. yeah they usually do. and usually sounds good live. just bad on TV..
Vocals could have been ever so slightly louder in the mix, but overall it was pretty damn good compared to what you usually get on talk shows
Vocally they were slightly lower than usual. But, I thought the Kami band was ripping and the mix created a very energetic performance.
Koba would not let these peasants meddle with his band. I bet he brought his own team and was overseeing everything they did to make sure they did it right.
That studio audience is so lucky to witness a once in a lifetime amazing performance with all original members .
Now THIS is Babymetal, and
The Kami Band 🤘
How time flies, Mikio is dead, Yui is no longer with Su and Moa, and the Kami Band is not what they used to be.😢
The smile on Mikio's face... RIP Guitar Hero
Mikio-san, wearing a creepy custom but have an angelic smile. RIP Legend
The bass player is INSANE. The grooves he's laying down, his stage presence and everything. I really love every aspect of this band.
That's Bohte 'Boh' Daisuke, he's amazing.
I'm 50yrs old and feel guilty as hell for loving babymetal, baby metal death is HARD!!!!!
Anthony Falante im in my 30s and feel no shame
Trailing close behind you, mate. :)
Awesome has no age.
I'm 34 and I think they are awesome! Music has no age.
No ! No ! It is not guilty. BABYMETAL is the mixture of IDOL and METAL. You didn't know the IDOL. It is to be loved by everyone. BABYMETAL is so cute and brutal. You may call 3 angels name, and of course shout "I love BABYMETAL!!". It is the IDOL.
I am 50 and have been enjoying Babymetal shame-free for the last 4 years.
72 years old here. as soon as I heard this I put it in my workout playlist. high energy for sure.
The OG Kami band are phenomenal... Babymetal came out swinging, and no one was prepared for it! I wasn't.... I was blown away and laughing at the same time. Just positive vibes and appreciation of the music and dancing.
The dude has a pink guitar playing a heavy metal song what a beast.
That's Ohmura Takayoshi, he rules.
I love the fact that the Kami band are so talented and know their craft so masterfully but have stated that they would only ever consider playing these types of live shows with these young women. The amount of respect that they have for them is amazing and the amount of respect given in return is shown.
“I’m not sure what I’m about to see.” Is everyone watching BABYMETAL for the first time
Anyone who hates on this group needs to loosen up their sphincter a tad, relax and enjoy life! Best thing to happen Metal in YEARS!
i agree who thought metal and j- pop would work what will the Japanese thing of next love this band
Guy Fawkes how is this good metal? You can't understand what they say unless you're a web.
Guy Fawkes weeb*
Yup. The band fucking shreds and although the whole group might seem odd or different its miles better than all of that shitty guttural vox static sounding garbage people call metal these days.
Anonymous
It's FAR easier to "understand the lyrics" of a band like Baby Metal than many other groups. And what difference, ultimately, does it make? I'm in my 50s, no "Weeb", just a music fan who's probably heard a vastly larger amount of different music than you have. This band is GREAT. Deal with it.
The older people in the audience: 😟🤨
Still one of the most iconic greatest performances on the Ed Sullivan Theatre stage since The Beatles.
Omg the “see you” part was soo adorable
Yeah we just melted your face off for 4 minutes. Wasn't that fun! :D
スタジオではBABYMETALの良さが出ないっていう意見もあるけど、それは日本国内での話で、米英のTVショーは完璧に彼女達の魅力を伝えてくれている❗️本当にクレイジーな位完璧❗️
The sound of the band is so raw, you rarely get to hear something like that on TV these days.
Where has this been all my life???!!!
The audience this night were witness to perfection.
Everytime i cry when i see this one
I'm glad Babymetal is making their mark in the US
The guys who actually play the instruments rock pretty hard as well don't you think? ;)
Kami band rocks!
Yeah i wish that they would put Volbeat on aswell
Boy, do they ever! The super ladies up front are very talented window dressing.
+Robs01 - The girls were already performing as Babymetal for 3 years before the Kami Band was brought in to give the girls street cred after their first singles topped the Japanese Indie chart and early live shows (with skeletons miming playing) sold out. They _earned the right_ to have such awesome musicians backing them.
That "see you" at the end is still the best part!
Remember seeing this at the time with no prior knowledge of any of their material, I had seen some great Japanese punk bands in the 80's before. The blend of pop and metal was unique and refreshing.
damn. that chorus has such a great hook.
Bro, Boh has too much stage presence for normal humans to comprehend lmao. RIP Mikio
Am I the only one who cracked up laughing watching the drummer 😂😂 so amazing, these girls are adorable and way more metal then most kids that age.
Theres a really cute video, like a ten second clip from a live show, when one of the girls is facing the drummer for her choreography he is making silly faces at her like he's trying to make her laugh. All those guys have been in showbiz forever its really cool to see how they've taken the girls under their wing.
@@Hoobyj can u find that clip?
@@dawg153 ua-cam.com/video/5R_0dkx5twk/v-deo.html i was thinking of the parts near 40 mark when i said 20 seconds xD
I've never seen a band look like they're having that much fun. RIP Mikio you were a legend
OMG. "see you", SEE YOU"! i love them
The girls are for sure a delight, but the bald dude in the background with white makeup has never enjoyed his job more than anyone else, and I really love him for it.
That is BOH. He has said in interviews past that he loves playing with Babymetal and goes out of his way to accept Babymetal contracts. He is the kamiband member with the most performances with Babymetal, over 200. Although extremely versatile, his preferred music genre seems to be jazz/fusion.
One of my female friends looked at this and said "it was easy to do dancing like that" so I challenged her to do so....it really isn't as easy as it looks and being precise
This night Babymetal kicked doors open with this performance. Stephen Colbert saying that he's not sure what he is about to see, but he's excited, he just witnessed a timeless classic from this amazing group. Cudos to Colbert for putting them on his show, Babymetal owned The Late Show that night. Oh yeah, definitely kitsunes up world.🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊
Literally every member of that group is having an absolute blast playing live. That's what it's about people!!! Not making sure your Macbook puts you in perfect pitch!
The Kami band looks like they're having so much fun lmao

No one there knew the Kami Band was on set!!!!
kami band give everthing they got no matter where the performance is
Truth
THE ENDING WAS SO GOD DAMN ADORABLE, BUT IT'S SO METAL AT THE SAME TIME AHHHHHHHHHHH
It's the true beauty of this band. I can't get into some music, but holy shit, this is epic-ly awesome!
I remember an old co worker of mine who was a metalhead. I would put on a metal station at work when it was just me and him working. I like metal just not as much. But since I was a Japanophile, I knew about BABYMETAL, and said, "So I know this band you might like consisting of cute Japanese girls". He ofc was indifferent cause Japanese culture was "meh" to him and he only knew US bands and ofc some German ones. Then I started a video of BABYMETAL. I kid you not, his eyes widened and his jaw dropped and he started yelling, ""HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?!?! What is this band?!?!"
Japanese metal bands immediately earned a new fan that day.
japanophile…
That absolute chaos is what I prefer in those lives
4:01 Where the audience realized , they just saw one of the " best acts" in the history of rock 😮

And dance. We cannot forget what a great dancer BOH is. I'm always watching him in the background and he's a riot the way he carries on.
BABYMETAL kicks ass. RIP Mikio 😢
It's been over two years since this, I was there in the front rows.
Still keep coming back to watch it again, o e of the best days ever
brian peters ; your lucky guy :)
Lucky bastard🤘
Their goodbye with "see you" was very cute.
A lesson I learned here is to give it your all and always perform with confidence no matter how the crowd reacts.
I'm not a fan of metal but the musicians are great and the lead singer and 2 dancers add something amazing to the performance. They are so in sync with each other. The whole performance is so rehearsed every venue sounds exactly like the other, which is impressive.
Hey this was pretty good. They sounded pretty tight.
Figure you'll listen to more of their music?
Think Dragonforce with girls.
They are better than Dragonforce . At least she can sing well
Nicholas Brown HA!!!! Nice!
This telecast is what introduced me to Babymetal accidentally.
The rest is history.
Koba, hiding the Kami's is a crime. LOOK at what the add to the vibe. Mikio's big smile the whole time, Hideki singing along with papapapa, BOH and Ohmura rocking out. Unleash the Kami! We demand it!
He thinks it takes attention from the girls
Always a good gig to come back to to remember Mikio
Best performance in Colbert history
Saw them with my daughter in Brixton, London a couple of years ago, really entertaining show and a pretty tight band. I'm glad I wasn't in the mosh pit downstairs though, it was chaos.
Why were they hanging around your daughter?
I grew up in the ‘70s. This was as cool as the 1st time I saw KISS on tv.
I love how Stephen is so confused but here for it
The best passive-agressive way to ask for chocolate. Amazing!

Rob Harwood that end was adorable as hell
The old, blessed BM days. 💔
The ultimate BM line-up. The original trio, Mikio, Ohmura, BOH and Aoyama!! :D
I remember being so excited for Babymetal to appear on an American show like this and being all worried about it getting DVR’d correctly. Between stuff like this and seeing them in person too during the Metal Resistance US tour makes this my favorite portion of the Babymetal era.
TV performances that suddenly changed America:
Beatles come to America for the Ed Sullivan Show.
Baby Metal comes to America for The Late Show with Stephan Colbert.
I used to watch this show for the first year. I remember seeing this and showing my brother and nephews they loved it. Lead Guitarist to me has the most beautiful smile I've ever seen.
The “See You” is the cutest exit lol I hope they still do it at the end of each concert
And just like any self-respecting bassist, he's in the back keeping the band together and going fucking nuts.
Only the Japanese could come up with something like this! Awesome stuff and I find it hilarious how ''true'' uptight metal heads are reacting to this, I have one in my family who was shouting how blasphemy this is to the oh serious metal music. Love it lol
Those people are the typical "judging by cover" people. I will never understand how can people judge music and genre by the look of members and their outfit... This band is high level metal with a trio of girls in the front. It is almost like they would say metal is not metal with female singers...
I think "true" metal is not afraid of change - just look at the history of metal - full of changes, this is just another chapter.
How's your family member now? I bet he loves them now they've been releasing banger after banger albums metal galaxy was a beast.
@@justicedemocrat9357 No, he's still a stuck-up old fart! ;P
When you have metal icons like Rob Halford of Judas Priest performing with them, you GOT to know Babymetal is getting up there with the metal greats
Its awesome that in the beginning of the song, only like 2 people are standing. Then as the song ended, almost all of them are. :)
Great singing.
Great performance in such a small studio.
@Yourtube And they destroyed the postage stamp ! :-)
