Capacities itself should encourage this way of arranging information. Maybe by providing an example template. And by streamlining the process of creating such a page.
Definition of an Expert: a person who has special skill or knowledge in some particular field; specialist; authority: Uh, this definition say and proves you’re an expert! Just saying Beth!
Brilliant! You just solved a problem from yesterday that I was going to try tackling today. When I went into a tag I was looking for a way to create views and then save them as you can in Notion. But of course that doesn't exist. AND now I know,, it doesn't need to because you can do this. Perfect no I can track my book library. Thank You!
I'm new to Capacities and am loving it. Your course has been extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing your thought process. My biggest challenge is trying to decide how many spaces I need.
Ah amazing, thank you! I separate spaces by the mindset I want to be in as I'm easily distracted, but I'd start with as few as possible and go from there. Generally I don't like to create the same objects in more than one space because that makes me think I could combine it elsewhere. I'm sure there are exceptions but these are just guidelines I follow :)
Think through if you really need to split into spaces. You can't share information across them. In other words, you are siloing your information - kind of the opposite of what PKM is about. With link/backlinks, tags, object types and collections there are plenty of ways to structure/separate information within one space.
Indeed, this is just what I've landed with after lots of trial and error and is because I am so easily distracted. The separation is currently worth any friction that might arise from siloing info!
@@PKM_Beth So I have the following spaces : 1. Daily Notes /Organization/Inspiration2. My Architecture Business 3. My School Teaching Stuff. When I am in each space, I can focus on that space. If needed, I can cross link with weblinks.
This is BRILLIANT! Thank you so much. I am very new to Capacities, still trying to figure out in my mind how I would instinctively find things. I was almost hitting overwhelm because I couldn't figure out how to see everything I want on one topic that was also aesthetically pleasing. I'm a visual person - this is 100% necessary! I love your videos and can't wait for more.
Wow Beth, I was struggling to find a way to see my tasks living inside different objects in one place and this video solved all my issues. Thanks so much!!!!
The idea is good and as a workaround, I like your approach, but this kind of view not being built natively into the app is something that has caused me to switch back to Obsidian lately. Yeah, tags kind of work as a project/topic dashboard, but those end up causing a lot of clutter, especially if I want all of those to be quickly accessible. Having to manually create a hub page for every topic is a fairly significant slowdown, and I really hope they'll roll out some kind of cross-type collection at some point.
Fair enough!! I only need this functionality for a handful of tags so I don't feel like it slows me down too much at all, but there could certainly be templates created to make this faster even for the few I do want to do this for.
Ok this one is very advanced so I'm tagging it to replay after I become acquainted with the basics. Coming from Obsidian & Notion. Definitely love the looks of your MOC, thanks!
This video is the reason I didn't give up o Capacities! Thanks a lot for this and all your other videos. They are helping me so much. I'm still not 100% in because I use iOS a lot and the mobile app is very limited in my opinion. If I may ask, are you using the mobile app frequently? I'm curious to know what you think about it. Anyway, I'm still new to the app and your videos are really making me more interested in trying it out more and more. Thank you and keep up the good work! (from Brazil here, if that matters.hahaha. Just thought it would be nice to tell you that this is reaching and helping someone really far.)
Oh wow thank you for your comment, so kind! I use the mobile app most days, mainly for uploading photos and using the AI, or searching for something whilst I'm away from my laptop. I find it works great for this! I've never really used note-taking apps on my phone before as I can type faster on my laptop! What would you like to see in the mobile app?
Thank you very much! Very helpful indeed! If, in a MOC, I wish to filter out objects using a (custom) property as a filter argument, the (custom) property will not show, because they are embedded TAGS which can give you all kinds of objects - which don't all have the (custom) property I need for filtering. Did you find a way to work around this? In other words: I wish to see a list of ZETTELS which have the CHECKBOX "corrected" unchecked. How would you create this list on a MOC?
You can't do this with a checkbox right now, I think that will come with queries (the introduction of which will likely prompt another MOC video!). If you need to filter Zettels out now, you'll have to introduce a tagging (perhaps "corrected") convention and filter out #corrected in each embedded tag view.
Hi Beth, please timestamp your videos. I sometimes want to come back to them for a specific thing and at the moment, I have to watch the whole video - cheers!
But, if you have MOCs all over the place, how would you remember that, e.g., for America it's in your pages, but for Europe (let's say), you put it under the MOCs type? I just would be afraid to forget where I decided to have it. Or, one could tag it with MOC? But then also one could ask, why not convert your existing America page to a MOC type?
I have a MOC tag! The America page has metadata with it being a country that I’d want to see in the MOC so I’m happy to keep that in action and just arrange the varying things I learn about America in the blocks below. I only have a handful of Mocs right now so I do expect things will evolve as my usage does, I’ll make update videos as and when I learn something new :)
It's probably an in-line tag and you need a link block- if you option click on the tag do you get a button that says "convert to link block?". If so, click that, then the dots will be at the end of the block.
I see your point but I think a selling point of Capacities is that the tag isn't like a page, as clicking on it takes you straight to a view of all tagged content, whereas if tags were pages I think we'd just be working with backlinks? Probably down to personal preference!
Capacities itself should encourage this way of arranging information. Maybe by providing an example template. And by streamlining the process of creating such a page.
I shall pass this on!
Excellent. This is the solution i was looking for to embed "today's" tasks into a dashboard view.
Ah brilliant!

It’s too bad we can add content/embeds to a Tag page, as this would be the most straightforward place to organize these maps perhaps?
