    I think "Filly" was named because it was built in a landfill
    Thr Ghoul revived the dog to track the target. The dog would want to return to its owner

    In the original Fallouts, turrets were very inaccurate- so that's how the Enclave turret fired so many rounds and never hit anything.

    15:35 Great point here! This is something I didn't even realize while watching for the first time. They do an amazing job at capturing that feeling of discovery from the games. Those "step-out" moments. Like when Lucy first sees Filly, or even in episode 1 when she first steps out of the vault. They have that same exact energy of the experience of stepping out of vault 101 in Fallout 3, or entering Diamond City for the first time in Fallout 4. Upon rewatching, I almost expected an XP pop-up on screen for discovering a new location in these scenes lol

    The coffin was an ingenious way to torture a ghoul. It had nothing to do with maintaining his biology. That was imprisonment by a 3rd party.

    Those dogs are not German Shepherds, they are Belgian Malinois, although they do have Shepherd genes. I think the writers and director(s) took some liberties with the Fusion Core power cells making them last much longer than what they do in the games.

    • @sierra1513
      @sierra1513 2 місяці тому +2

      It's far more reasonable to assume that the fusion cores only run out quickly in the game for gameplay purposes, so that power armour could have some downside

    • @charlie7mason
      @charlie7mason 2 місяці тому +2

      @@sierra1513 Exactly, those cores power Vaults for years and somehow run dry in an hour of suiting around? That's definitely a gameplay element. Otherwise what would be t he point of going through the trouble of developing atomic power if it ran out like a can of Red-Bull.

    IMO Lucy, Maximus, and the Ghoul are all players and have different character builds. I think in that light, even things like the Ghoul taking those rounds in Filly and his fight with Maximus make more sense.

    The lack of greenery is mostly due to engine limitations and design choices.

    35:50 On the comedic tone, I think it's a promotional video for Fallout 3 that has the exact same level of absurdity, it's a commercial trying to get people to buy their spots on the vaults. I don't think the show changes anything in that regard, but maybe the different medium makes things feel more real? I'd understand that, especially considering that these post-apo stories all feel a bit different after the pandemic.

    Dogmeat is a really good example of how Bethesda just takes things without putting some actual thought about what they're doing. Dogmeat is from Fallout 1 and was joke reference to the post apocalyptic movie "A Boy and His Dog". Bethesda goes "every Fallout requires a dog named Dogmeat".
    It'd be like if Interplay put a batmobile in the game as a joke, and Bethesda goes "every fallout game requires a batmobile"

    • @brewdaly1873

      Or, just hear me out here, it's simply a fun little Easter egg that easily fits into all Fallout games. It's more equivalent to your horse being named Epona in every Zelda game.
      ETA: Shit, this very show itself contains an extremely obvious reference to A Boy And His Dog. Because the Fallout franchise literally probably wouldn't exist without that movie. Like, there's plenty of legitimate things to criticize Bethesda on, but this is definitely not one of them.

      @@charlie7mason right? I'll be the first to admit, I am not a die hard Fallout fan. I've only casually enjoyed a few of the games. But I know enough to understand why some fans don't like what Bethesda has done. I've heard plenty of totally understandable complaints. This is not one of them lol. This is the definition of asinine. "Bethesda sucks cause they keep paying homage to the movie that directly inspired this IP" is just one of the worst takes I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of bad takes on this show in the last week.

    • @charlie7mason

      @@brewdaly1873 I have a hunch. What are the chances OP is one of those people who thinks New Vegas is the best thing since sliced bread and everything Bethesda has done is shit and shouldn't exist.
      I myself came to the franchise with Fallout 3 and if that hadn't existed, I would've never found it. I fell in absolute love with the lore and world enough to play through 1 and 2 and thoroughly enjoyed New Vegas and yes, even Fallout 4 (we don't talk about Fo76). At no point did I ever feel like Bethesda was intentionally trying to poop on the original Fallout(s) or Obsidian despite any of their missteps. Yet that fanbase is quite a bit rabid about it YEARS after the change.
      I feel like the Fallout show does an excellent job of paying homage to ALL of Fallout regardless of creators and it says a lot about how Todd views the IP. He certainly loves all of it. I for one, could never get into the Wasteland series no matter how hard I tried and played through significant portions of all 3. So maybe I have bad taste, but I don't mind the path Fallout's taken if it's gotten to this point and hopefully now has a chance of a brighter future with all the interest and high-quality talent attached.
      I'm just glad more people are getting to appreciate the world of Fallout and its quirks.

      1) Not every game has a dog companion.
      2) Not every dog companion is called Dogmeat.
