- Another love letter to the Elektron Analog Four mk2. It's on my never-to-sell list for sure.
It can be a Groovebox, Drum Synth, or just a simple Poly Synth.

nice! i don’t usually think of drum sounds when i think of the analog 4, but you’re really kicking it - those are great sounds, and beats. and those monster dog sounds at the end really fill up the sound, and gets a lot out of 4 tracks. and i havent used rytm but the drums in this track at least have more power than most examples of rytm that i’ve seen.
Thanks! Yeah, I prefer the A4's sounds. Of course the Rytm can do many other things very well, but the A4 is more immediate to me. (when using presets)
I use the ANALOG FOUR also a lot for percussive sounds. I think it really shines on fine articulated abstract sounds and I love it most for 4 voice polyphonic strings.
In my opinion the ANALOG RYTM has a punch and low end that the A4 is not able to provide. I´m happy the have of them both ;)
It can do so much, which is what a really love about it…but it also needs attention unlike a simple synth keyboard.
A4 was my first elektron gear and i love it. Sounds so good and easy to make cool jams quickly
I like the A4 mk2 so much I own 2 of them. I prefer the Rytm for drums though which I also have.
After the latest update I wouldn't mind a Rytm again either ;)
I prefer A4 for sure! Definately my favorite elektronbox. I'm thinking of buying it again some day. But I just bought OP-1F so I'll have to wait a while.
Good luck getting one again!
This thing is amazing! I dont think of the A4 as a groovebox, I see it as a unique synth with so much possibilities and creativity. I only use it to make tracks and it's super fun to be limited so you become creative. I have the AR beside it but I dont find myself eager to pair it as it holds its own quite well. BTW, what overhead stand do you use? I want to upload A4 videos from that angle
this is the kind of stand I use: www.amazon.com/Viozon-Desktop-Microphone-competiable-Teaching/dp/B086W3L2XB
Yeah, once it get's to using multiple Elektrons it can get overwhelming :D
@@SONWU That's called a rig! XD Thanks so much! Gives me an idea on what I can get. Probably a simpler stand but with the same overhead bar. Thank you
Did this just get an update? It sounds like the new machines in the Rhythm II :)
Haha, the A4 engine is very flexible and the presets some people have made out of it are just amazing.
I have used the A4 on and off since it’s release. I also enjoy the Rytm. I work using only one at a time on my desk. I did not appreciate Rytm until I started slamming into the distortion and the compressor. It would be a hard choice, but if I had to choose one, I would go with the ……🙈
:) I gotta get some time to use the AR more…and yes, after checking the distortion + comp, I like it much better too.
@@SONWU Dig your channel Mr. Wu! Keep up the good work!
I perfer that screen to the screen on my MK1, almost a valid reason for a swap, except all the Mk1 stuff is better looking. thanks for a great video. Re: Rytm, I did sell mine, not 100% sure why, "Couldn't put my finger on it". Four tracks a limitation? If Haydn could make do with four tracks for his string quartets then I'll suffer along with him.
yeah, the A4 mk2 is just sooo much nicer to use. I couldn't go back to the mk1.
an AK mk2 would be so cool.
Great channel!
Thanks!
Raaah i was just thinking about selling my analog keys this weekend because i'm getting a second hand op1 field tomorrow...
I guess i will keep the Ak now. 😅
The Analog Keys is great!
And who knows, maybe they update it soon as well :)
Love my a4😻
I got myself analog keys this synth is a beast
100% it's an amazing synth and the AK is such a great deal.
i bought A4 and the sold it for A4 Keys and then i sold that for A4 mkII. this synth will never leave my setup.
I had the AK twice…the screen is what makes the mk2 so great.
@@SONWUthe mk1 screens are tough
When will your KO II arrive? And more importantly! When will we see you use it? 8)
Shipping confirmation is there…we'll have to wait & see :)
Thinking about selling OP1F for an A4. Already have a DN and an ST
Hmmm…that‘s a difficult one.
They are 2 very different devices. And the OP-1 field is an easy go to if you just quickly need to hook up a synth.
@@SONWU I go back and forth with it. With the release of the new KOII sampler, I'm back to thinking I should keep the Field and use it with the new thing when it comes. The Rytm is really attractive with it's new update, as well. So many choices!
@@SONWU any chance you'll do a Syntakt vs Rytm Mk2 1.7 comparison video? I'm so curious
I sold both of them, so I can't…but I thought it was simpler to get the Syntakt to sound right, whereas I like the expanded featureset of the RYTM@@EVILJAMARR
If you would get your first elektron device and you can only pick 1 do you recommend the analog 4 or octatrak?
…ooooh
Well, I am sure you are aware of the steep learning cure of the Octatrack. So you have to put in time.
But if I was to only have 1 Elektron, it definitely would be the Octatrack. It has the best sampler out of all the devices, which means you can load any sound into it. It has great MIDI capabilities and once you know your way around it, it grows with you…so many possibilities!
Let me know, if you get one ;)
(That being said, the A4 is super cool too…but I am more of a sampler-guy)
how those boxes can be compare?
BTW I dont get the FX track. Why modulate on the FX track when you can do the same on the main track? I guess because you can mute it? Cant think of another reason
The FX track can change the FX parameters, like width & feedback etc.…T1-T4 can only change the send amount to the FX.
@@SONWU I guess I already was used to Digitakt and it didnt need a dedicated FX track to change parameters or modulate/lock them. I feel there's a trick/advantage somewhere that Im not seeing
lets make an epic emotional hip hop beat on syntakt 😅
Don’t have it anymore…
Son Wu I need your help can you please tell me when I make a song on the Op1 Tape and recording on the Album it's not coming up on the computer and I don't know why I need a quick tutorial on this ASAP I'll buy you a coffee for your time thanks
Hey!
OP-1 field or OG? Mac or Windows?
Is the OP-1 as a whole not showing up, or just nothing in the album folder? Can you play the album on the OP-1 and actually hear something?
No The only thing I see is Drum And Synth Album and Mixdown is not showing up I have a Laptop window 11 yeah made a song but can't play it
I have a Op1 field
If you can't play anything on the album on the OP-1 itself, then there probably isn't anything recorded…I have never had this issue, but I am using a Mac, so I am not sure.@@Shades289
@@SONWU I can play it on the Op1 field Album but not on the Computer Damn this is a pain in the ass thanks anyway Son Wu
love the AR and the OT but the A4.......? it doesn't sound analog at all.
I sold it and didn't regret it
I think is sounds good, analog or not, it's a powerful synth…and agree with people saying modular-in-a-box.
@@SONWU Yeah it's kinda personaly but to me it sounded cold and harsh.
I was more looking for a warm sounding synth.
The sequencer with parameter locking is from another planet, gladly I still have my octratrack for that.
How about a bassline chieftain
maybe next time ;)
Me too
👌 just got some connectors in the mail so I can hook it up to Eurorack…should be interesting :)
at this price you can buy a Digitakt and a Waldorf Blofeld and get much better experience.
I seriously doubt that!
@@SONWU used Digitak 500EUR + used Blofeld 250EUR = 750EUR. For this you have a 16 part multi virtual analog synth with matrix and a 8CH seq + 8 audio track. Analog 4 is 1000EUR and only 4 multi.
@@dodgeatmosphere Okay, if the experience is BETTER very much depends on your needs. The Analog Four is a much more complex device than those two combined, when you consider the amount of parameters that can be locked, processing external audio, sending one voice into the next, etc.
If you want more traditional synth voices (and many of them) your suggestion is definitely right!
@@SONWU ok let's say a used Access Virus Ti2 with a basic seq. 16 part multi, full parametric and more versatile.
I love elektrons but A4 is really overpriced compare to the result you get. ofc it is my opinion.
@@dodgeatmosphere I know what you mean…I'd compare the A4 more to a modular synth, which makes it seem cheap :D
