- Antoine "Fats" Domino was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, on the 26th of February 1928. When he was a 7 year old kid, he learned piano from his ,much older, brother-in-law Harrison Verrett. His piano playing was influenced by boogie woogie pianists like Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis and his triplet piano style came from Little Willie Littlefield, who,by the way, lives in the Netherlands.
His first record was "The Fat man", recorded in 1949 and became a R & B hit in 1950 and a gold record in 1953. His cooperation with the bandleader Dave Bartholomew resulted in an almost endless chain of R & B and Top 100 hit records. He also played the piano on Lloyd Price's millionseller "Lawdy miss clawdy." Fats performed in 4 Rock & Roll movies, "The girl can't help it, "Shake rattle and rock", "Jamboree" and "The Big beat." This ended in 1963 with "Red sails in the sunset," by than Fats recorded for ABC-Paramount and the cooperation with Dave had ended. In the period 1949-1960 he had 23 million sellers, not less than 17 were co-written with Dave Bartholomew.
In 1955, with the arrival of Rock & Roll, Fats became also popular with the white audience starting with "Ain't that a shame." Lew Chudd, the owner of Imperial Records sold his record company to LIBERTY in 1963. At that time success faded a little and Fats signed a contract with ABC-Paramount, were he had a couple of hits. Later, in 1965, he had a very good live album on MERCURY and a couple of albums on REPRISE and SONET.

I love how he had so much fun entertaining people.
Without a doubt, one of the most loved Rock legends. I saw Fats live twice back in the 60's. He truly loved his fans and would play anything they asked for. Imagine Heaven with him, Elvis, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, LaVern Baker, and Ray Charles? Heaven must be REALLY rockin'!
Rest in peace, Fats. You were a legend.
Have a lot of respect for 50s and 60s music as much as the 70s and 80s music which was when I grew up in. Fats Dominos was a legend of his time.
R.I.P fats Domino, a legend has died today...
I'm still 😢
One of The Fathers of Rock N Roll
So honored to live right up the street from this icon.
His enthousiastic and jolly performance is unvincible...playing the piano without looking at the keys..always jealous!

Fats is just a maestro on the mic and keys. Just a master of stage presence and rhythm and blues. What a cool dude.
Look how happy he was playing this song. This is one cool cat, someone I wished I could have met or hung out with for a day. He's prob. a legend in N.O.
I was a huge fan, living in New Jersey, during the roots of rock'n'roll. I saw Fats at an Alan Freed concert in the '50's and, years later, in concert after I moved to Phoenix. Every record was a 2-sided hit. One side written by Fats and his band leader/song writing partner Dave Bartholomew. And the flip side, an old standard, done in his style. The only one written for him by someone else was this one, as mentioned, written by Bobby Charles, a fellow Cajun. Years ago, I wrote to Antoine that I would be visiting New Orleans on a trip back east and it would mean a lot for me to meet him. He never responded, even after I wrote a second time. I read that Fats was very shy and had a reputation of standing up even people in the industry. How I wish he would have let me visit for half an hour. He and Louie Armstrong, BTW, are New Orleans' two greatest musical legends.
This guy was so special and the amazing style he created will live on forever! He always had a smile on his face when he was perfoming and we loved to sing along with him.
Antoine Fats Domino had such an inflluence in music really. What a Great Performer, with real talent, who did not need the help of modern gimmicks to sing well.
Sooo true!!!
A true legend.
yes sir
my dad played this when I was young, 78's wonderful crackly sound, digital removes the life and soul from music.
One of his last live performances. A legend gone too soon,
I was born in New Orleans and for the last 7 years have lived in Arizona. I am so ready to get back to my birth city and hopefully will live there until I die. Best city on the face of the earth in my view. Who Dat

Un des plus beaux blues jamais écrits, et seul Fats Domino savait les interpréter avec talent...............
@GeorgiaKev Fats turned 83 at the end of February. He still lives in the New Orleans area but has yet to return to his 9th Ward home that he was living in at the time Katrina struck. He was very ill with diabetes symptoms when he was found after Katrina and was treated at LSU after being rescued. He's very reclusive and friends back home tell me that sadly, his mind has begun to slip. He likely won't be in the public eye much anymore and his performing days are certainly over. A true legend.
Songs like this always remind me of John Candy.
I,went,to 3 of fats concerts, really enjoyed, them,he is the best, piano player

WHAT CAN I TELL YOU?.
Every one of us singers, even from our own written collection we've got our favorites. Did you notice the way he got crazy with New Orleans.? Laugh!.
Bobby Charles, a white songwriter from Louisiana established in Chicago during late 50's was the reference songwriters for many rock n' roll pioneers, also for Fats. After writing other song for him, he received a call from Fats committing him to come to New Orleans to appreciate his talent, and Bobby initially refused the proposal saying that he hasn't got car neither money to go to New Orleans. With his typical southern sense of humor, Fats replied "well, just start walkin'". Bobby so did, and days after he went to New Orleans with this beautiful song under his arm. Great story.
Rest in Peace to a true legend, Fats Domino.
