I remember that, and the Saturday Superstar Movies. The Gidget movie was really good, Yogi’s Gang came out of that series as well.

I was right, I thought the animation looked a little like Japanese animation, did some research and Toei did do the animation!

Meringue in Sugartown, USA! ok.ru for this and other Saturday Superstar movies I will be uploading. Have to add me as a friend though. I work too hard and pay a lot for material like this and users just take and take. Which I do not care to share but they do not say Hi or like my stuff or say thank you or be my friends. So that is why.

Chris Cooling, Oh! OK! I was wondering. I was having this one channel taking my videos and blogging about them before I had a chance to get my own viewers. I added you as a friend!

They had this time in the 1970s where they thought they could make a "serious show" for adult animation fans.
That idea NEVER flew in primetime.
Every once in a while, H-B bucked its own trends and TRIED to do something different but they always went back to their tried and true franchises (Flintstones, Scooby-Doo) and produced even more crap that devalued the original, far superior shows in those series.
This pilot reminds of "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home." They reran that a few times on Cartoon Network and I can see why that series was NOT successful.

One more thing - I use ok.ru because if something is copy-protected and it is taken down. I do not get a strike or get banned or my account deleted. They just take it down and let you go on your merry way.

This was actually a failed pilot for an animated 'That Girl' series, or perhaps series of specials, shown on the early 70's 'ABC Saturday Superstar Movie' on Saturday Mornings from 1972-75. The show broadcast a lot of animated pilots, a couple of which were premieres for other cartoons, like 'The Brady Kids', 'Lassie's Rescue Rangers', and 'Yogi's Gang' which started with 'Yogi's Ark Lark'. As noted here, it also showed animated pilots for The Munsters, Nanny And The Professor, Bewitched, Gidget, The Banana Splits, Lost In Space, and even a team-up between Looney Tunes and The Groovie Goolies. That one features the acid-trippiest sequence in any mainstream cartoon:

Filmation and Rankin/Bass were heavy contributors. There were so many live-action-show-inspired cartoons in the 70's, I once posted about 'Mary's Major Mysteries', supposedly a show where Mary Richards and the cast of Mary Tyler Moore Show were teen journalism students traveling aboard Lou Grant's journalism bus. It was days before anyone figured out it never existed.

@@shoresean1237 They had cartoons inspired by Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, and Mork & Mindy in the early 1980s. Even as a kid, I could see they were TERRIBLE SHOWS!!!!
The funny thing is those series (all produced by Hanna-Barbera) came on far past the peak of the popularity of the Gary Marshall triad. It's incredible to see how some creators had those streaks of success on TV for a time and afterwards they can't get anyone to look at their developments! This happened with Sherwood Schwartz (who had his successes in the 1960s and early 1970s -- Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch) and Norman Lear (All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Maude, Good Times, Gloria, Archie's Place), too.
Marshall eventually went into films and was very successful there, too.
Gary Marshall is dead now along with his sister Penny who did the voice of Laverne for the animated series as well. Cindy Williams also reprised Shirley.
The best animated shows I saw in the 1980s were action-adventure series and NONE of them were big successes with toy lines like Transformers and GI Joe. The animated shows I have found memories of were Thundarr the Barbarian, Dungeons & Dragons, Robotech, and Voltron. Of those, Thundarr and Robotech have held up the best BY FAR.
