  • Random flare-ups & crashes are so frustrating, but when you understand the neuroscience behind pain, fatigue & stress it’s useful to know - the brain DOESN’T do random.
    Random is dangerous.
Something has triggered the body’s alarm systems but often this is an inappropriate response.
There are ways to retrain the response rather than avoiding the trigger.
But it can sometimes be a trap to go chasing what ‘the thing’ that set you off.
(I’ve worked with people with IBS who kept a food diary for 3 years chasing the ‘dangerous’ food when IBS is more about the brain/gut alarm systems)
Just knowing that you’re triggered (rather than looking for what triggered you) can be enough.
You can retrain your body/brain alarm systems while still in the presence of whatever set you off. Maybe that’s even the work? 🧐
Is the exercise, movement, food, smell, person, sound, touch, light, conversation, activity dangerous ….. or is it my automatic / unconscious response that requires attention? 🤯
