Flaring on the Ulanzi is a little too extreme for my tastes, but still a decent less expensive price point. Nice video dude, always a pleasure to watch.
I think this is why the Moment lens is the best of both lenses. The moment has soft corners like the Ulanzi but it has similar flaring to the Sirui. I like the soft corners it gives it an old school vibe..
Agree... i bought the Ulanzi to shoot a little bit... Going to purchase the Moment lens for our future episodes. ua-cam.com/video/K-heL0VLVIo/v-deo.html
Great stuff. I’ve always been intrigued by smartphone lenses but really am totally ignorant of even where to start. Now that I’m experimenting with only shooting video with my iPhone 11 Pro Max I think I’m going to take a chance on one of these lenses to bring added quality to my videos. Thanks for sharing this
Ulanzi works w Sandmarc cases w the 17mm thread. Also Ulanzi needs to be desqueezed to 2.39:1 instead of 2.36:1. Moment app I believe desqueezes at 2.36. So you’ll still notice your subjects are a bit thinner.
I personally thought Sirui flare was best and besides who wants a dumpster fire lol, another great comparison and look forward to when you feel like making another vid.
Great video Patrick! The thing about the Ulanzi lens is that it actually isn't 1.33x. It's closer to 1.5x (or about 1.42x to be exact.) You can see this in your bridge footage where, on the right side the images are lined up closely, but on the left side you can see almost a whole other pillar. The Sandmarc lens seems to have the same issue from what I've seen. It's also sold under a couple of different names, I have one that's unbranded and can be found for as little as $30.
@@impatrickt The focal length is that of your taking lens, in this case 26mm full frame equivalent, the anamorphic adapters don't change that. What it does change is the horizontal field of view, so a 1.33x anamorphic on a 26mm should always result in a hfov of about 20mm while 1.42x is 18mm.
@@OskarHelgason You're not understanding what I'm saying. The Anamorphic lens itself also has its own focal length, which means the Ulanzi is a wider focal length (they say it's 16mm) Suri and Moment don't advertise their focal length. I've shot with 35mm and 85mm 1.33x anamorphic primes on my GH5. This is why monitors have 1.33x desqueeze options. It's a squeeze standard. You can use the same squeeze on multiple focal lengths. If the Ulanzi was a wider squeeze like you said than you would have to apply a different desqueeze in post than the Sirui and Moment. You don't have to though. They all take the same 1.33x desqueeze.
Great video! Subscribed! Actually, I think this is at least the 3rd time I watch this video, because I need to be sure of my choice. I got the anamorphic Wolffilms from Amazon.de, which is a German 1.33x anamorphic lens in a very nice metal body. The thing that pleased me, too, is the fact that there is a solid phone case for my P30 Pro. The image is quite sharp, but somehow the image rendering is not what I have expected and no light streaks (for quite a high price). I need to return this and make a choice between UIanzi and Sirui. Sirui would be my choice, but I cannot find a Moment case for P30 Pro (Europe), yet. Ulanzi has the right case - which is nice, in the eventuality I would add the Osmo Mobile (that clip could be a problem, with the phone mounted on the stabiliser). Ulanzi flares + price are nice, but I prefer the sharpness of Sirui (but can't find a case). Tough choice!
Amazing representation of comparing two well priced lenses. I may go with Sirui since I've already got a moment case. However, I've heard some complaints that the bayonet blades are so easily bent to the point that they can become unusable. Do you have thoughts on this?
But if you already happen to have the 67mm adapters for Moment lenses, like me, the square one won’t fit the Sirui anamorphic as it’s made specifically to adapt the Moment anamorphic for VND’s and other 67mm filters. I like the Sirui for its quality and price point, but I’m sticking with Moment for the gold flare option and filter adapter that I already own. Hopes this helps someone in the same situation.
The disadvantage of the clip on lenses is that you have to take your phone out of the protective case if you want to use them, otherwise the lens will not be close enough to the phone lens and your images won’t be sharp. I prefer to keep my phone protected so I got a Moment case for my Sirui (=Serooh) lenses. I may consider the Sirui anamorphic lens, especially since Sirui now also has a variable ND filter for this lens. This filter also fits their V2 18mm lens btw.
Thanks dude. I already had the Sirui VD-01 and got the Sirui case with it, but I returned the case in hopes the Moment case with the wood would also use the same mechanism, surely looked like it. But you just gave confirmation. So I'll order that while it's on sale now. Do you know if Moment and Sirui have the same outer dimensions for the filter holders?
Bought the Ulanzi Anamorphic and Cage for my iPhone Pro Max.. I assume I need to mount the lens on the far left (of three) lenses... and only use wide... then FilmPro to select the “Moondog” (as the only Hardware For anamorphic lenses) and I am getting in the frame in the far left and right side... or am I missing something???
Why go to the trouble and expense of using an anamorphic lens, which can twist and warp the image, when you could use a wide-angle adapter, and crop the top and bottom for the anamorphic aspect ratio? In either situation, you’re getting the full horizontal resolution of the camera, and software is throwing away the top and bottom to give you the wide/short aspect ratio.
I have to say that the ulanzi will fit on a case or rig and is well presented and the clarity or soft as you mention ion the sign is Mr perfection kicking in and in film, even at the cinema stage who sees that plus your going to watch this on substandard gear, so twice the price or more is Questionable.
If you start shooting a film with an anamorphic lens do you need to shoot the entire movie with that lens? Or can you switch to another wide or macro lens for other shots in the film?
I just bought the ulanzi anamorphic and the 11 pro max. I’m waiting on the counterweight. I know I’ll need to use my gimbal. But when I use filmic pro with out the gimbal and IS turned on the motion of the IS is greatly noticeable. With an animorphic should I be shooting with no IS?
Garr E. Fe Lix Honestly I haven’t shot with any of them since this review. Now that I have the 11 Pro I’m just less inclined to use any third party lenses. And its a pain to either use an app or desqueeze in post. The Sirui and Moment are essentially identical but the Sirui has the sharpest corners.
First Name no worries. Actually if you don’t use a third party app at all the image will be squeezed making it difficult to frame in general. You don’t need black bars when shooting anamorphic.
