I think Masuda made the right call with Leaf Green. Normally I always go for the Red-ish hued versions, but since I had already played the original Red, and Green was the fabled version that the West never got, I thought Leaf Green was super cool and had to have it.
Yeah, and Masuda said he wanted nice artwork of the Bulbasaur line. It’s important to recognize where Pokémon started off with its original release, as Red and Green.
Leaf Green was my first Pokémon game. I’ll never forget wasting my master ball on an Onix, because I thought it was a super rare Pokémon. I also remember that at my school, there was a kid who made money trading exp shares to other students.
Even if they are overshadowed by HeartGold and SoulSilver sometimes, I believe that FireRed and LeafGreen might be some of the most important games in the series. For example, they allowed you to get Pokémon that were previously unobtainable in Ruby and Sapphire due to technical limitations, and they were the first Pokémon games to support some kind of wireless feature, something which would later became the series standard in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. No wonder they got the Player's Choice award.
It is also the only games in the series to legally acquire Soft-Boiled on certain pokemon legally without cheating the game. Nintendo already said that they would completely look the other way if they detect that someone cheated to access the move tutor by walking on water. They also clearly said to back up the save data first before doing it using technology that they knew would come out eventually in the future. They also said something like it will take a while to get the planning out done correctly for what you want to eventually do in the game, but the outcome will be worth every second of planning it, hopefully preparing for the future of the game series and your own personal reasons.
Also the move tutors for Mega Punch and Mega Kick outside of Mt. Moon might be needed to be learned on some pokemon first before getting migrated over to the other pokemon games.

I loved FireRed. As anybody who ever played the Gen 1 games can tell you, there were a number of Quality of Life changes made by the time Fire Red and Leaf Green released. This includes the automatic swapping of Pokemon Boxes when one is filled, as well as the changes to the item inventory. This makes playing FireRed and LeafGreen a far less stressful experience. Having to constantly switch boxes so that you wouldn't miss out on a Pokemon capture was a pain. And only being able to hold a handful of item types at a time meant you were constantly selling or storing items in the PC. I find Masuda's comment about picking colors a bit silly. Fire burns leaves, after all. The most harmonious choice would actually be Leaf and Water, as water helps plants grow. Seems he was still influenced by the marketing power of Charizard.
FRLG are how I remember Gen1. Playing the actual GB games I always miss those QoL improvements and are kinda put off by the weird, random color palettes.

it's a sort of honor system, when you leave the yakuza or if your removed from their ranks forcefully you're required to lose a finger. It's better than some other gangs where they'd just kill you. At least Yakuza technically give you like 8-10 chances to make up your mind.

In fact, all 4 elements oppose each other in different ways and that is how the harmony exists.
When pitted against one another, they can stop each other, but with the right combination of them, life can bloom like a mighty oak tree.
@@CrystalGreymon The symbol of peace doesn't mean much in a game literally built around conflict (pokemon battles, stopping the mafia, beating Blue, etc.)

I wasn't expecting to hear a real-life wholesome moment right then
He used a leaf to represent peace... in a game all about battling. OK then...
I feel like I was the only kid in the US that was into the idea of the eReader when it came out, purely because I thought it was a cool concept to combine the TCG and play some mini games on the side. Also, Digimon Tamers just made card scanning seem so cool and revolutionary lol
As soon as i heard the phrase "a series of unused events" my immediate first thought was "wow, that should be the name of a collection of cut content from all of Lemony Snicket's books"
(......sorry, that had nothing to do with Pokémon)
I love Tama Hero! Can't wait to see what she has down the pipeline; her content is SO GOOD lately.
Happy to hear Tama again!
3:21 Nob Ogasawara looks like the Japanese-Canadian James May...
Crikey, it’s the kanto rozzers
I usually do not read video titles completely, so it was quite a surprise to hear Tana talking here about the gen1 remakes.
Speaking of that, I still need to finish my copy of Midori Version someday that I just stopped at Vermilion City because I felt like playing something else.
Ah yes, my favorite Pokémon game, LeafGrean
Did You Know? DYKG has a cycle of videos.
Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, random other game then repeat
Should be renamed to the Nintendid You Know Gaming channel
@@FreePalestineFromGenocideNOW To be fair, basically every nintendo franchise is a gold mine of trivia, cut content, and regional differences when compared to most other companies/franchises.
"Trainers couldn't get these Pokemon until Emerald"
Colosseum: Am I a joke to you?
Very nice choice having Tama involved for this video! I think I've learned more about Pokémon from her than anyone else! ❤️
Pretty sure setting a leaf on fire isn’t very peaceful haha
My favorite games and my favorite UA-camr. This is epic.
this is reminding me of my childhood 🥺

“We didn’t want it to be red vs blue because there are enough conflicts in this world”
*is a game about animals fighting against other animals*
Fire red and Leaf Green are still perfect to this day 💁❤
Eh........
Can't recommend it because it didn't have the physical/split yet, but it holds up in a lot of ways.
@@fernandobanda5734 i agree there. But still a 5/5
@@fernandobanda5734 Pre split is actually better for most kanto pokemon. Snorlax with shadow ball is crazy.
@@notscorchingsands9718 "Better for Kanto Pokémon" doesn't say a lot if most of the game is just Kanto Pokémon. I like having the tiniest bit of depth there and Gyarados not having to suck.
nice to hear Tama on this channel

That makes no sense to me for multiple reasons. First wouldn't grass and water be the more peaceful options? The Pokemon world is anything but peaceful. Generation 1 more especially. Team Rocket actually kills Pokemon and lavender Town has a giant cemetery with possessed exorcist shouting give me blood. Obviously Pokemon Ghost Pokemon especially are velicious and highly dangerous
It's just Masuda making nonsense excuses to do whatever he wants, as usual.
Not to mention gen 1 explicitly mentions a war that was fought with pokemon (Lt. Surge)
Thank you so much for all videos you made. You are one of my absolutely best youtubers ever. :)
Jste borci. Mám moc rád vaší tvorbu.
Ah yes nothing more conflictless than fire just devouring leaves with no resistance.
It actually does make sense if you think about it
@@aaronjames3228 fire and water would have tied it into Ruby and Sapphire even more tho. Instead you have fire which feeds on leaves. I see your side but, I still feel both create an image of conflict which always made sense for the differences between games
@@TheTrueMalice I get what you're saying too and I understand the harsh difference at first, but it makes sense to me. He wanted to do green and red because those were the original games anyway. It's all part of harmony. They both can cause destruction but they can also exist side by side.
@@aaronjames3228 yes I love they kept the original names. I prefer it I just hoped they had a smarter reason for why
@@TheTrueMalice well i think it's pretty deep and poetic, it's unfortunate that people aren't really thinking or understanding it
It would be more accurate for the birds to have three toes, since birds are therapods in real life.
I want a Yakuza mod where you play as Mr.Mime now.
Whoa surprise Tama! Talk about old school pokemon expertise
Oh nice, DidYouKnowGaming is getting out of their comfort zone and finally making a Pokemon video.
Holy hell thats Tamago! Didn't think she was still around doing pokemon stuff
Yeah Tamashii is. She even streams on Twitch
These are the best Pokemon games. I haven't been into it after this.
That, I have to disagree on. Black and white and 2 and pokemon diamond, peril, and platinum.
@@aurathedraak7909 I didn't like those games m8, I got older and got into Shin Megami Tensei and it set a much higher standard for JRPGs for me.
@@PLANTBAT So it's a you problem?
@@notscorchingsands9718 it's a "Pokemon in general" problem. I see your pfp and I get it man, but there are better games out there.

7:12 Now I'm disturbed by the fact that Yakuza cut their own fingers off.
Anyway, I love these facts about gen 3, everytime I watch a video about it I feel the urge to go back to these games
it's a sort of honor system, when you leave the yakuza or if your removed from their ranks forcefully you're required to lose a finger. It's better than some other gangs where they'd just kill you.
At least Yakuza technically give you like
8-10 chances to make up your mind.
@@Fanatic_Foremem well, when you put it like that, it almost seems reasonable
FireRed was my first Pokémon game but also the first game I ever owned and I remember constantly replaying it
LeafGreen was my first Pokémon game, I remember getting it after baseball practice. There was also a used original Red version at the gamestop too.
Nice to not see tons of complaints about the audio this time.
TAMAAAAAAAAAA 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Talking about a couple of games I played for lotsa hours as a kiddo, you love to see it. (I love to see it!)
I have so much nostalgia for the Gen 1 remakes, but almost none for the original games
One of my favourite games ever replayed this so many times
The only memory of this game I have is a bunch of my friends playing this on our android phones and trading via bluetooth in highschool.
Best part is that we use messenger to talk to each other while playing and giving each other tips
🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
Water and Fire oppose each other so we decided on leaf green with fire red.
Umm... fire... plant... umm....
I think it’s more or less rather what they represent than what the are. Like what Masuda said, Leaf represents peace, as it can show sincerity. While Fire is energy and activity. And they are the remakes of the original pair in Japan, Red and Green.
@@IgnitedQuils In Japan, under the influence of the indigenous religion Shintoism, water is believed to incarnate the purity and pliant simplicity of life. It would have made more sense to have Leaf and Water imo.
Just found your content
Love it
I’m currently replaying leaf green on my game boy micro.

That's amazing!!! I love when stuff like that happens
oh actually hi tama :D i subscribed to you
As a kid of the 90s UK, the NPC named Hiker Nob gave me a chuckle. Still does.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Tama the same person that insulted women for choosing to have a more feminine lifestyle and and called those who referred to those who liked Gardevoir as "Gardefags"?
Oh boy..........
I like these facts etc and yes thank you, Nob for your contributions but honestly like every pokemon DYKG has mentioned NOB with pretty much the same info!
OMG it's Tama!!
This is EXACTLY what ive been waiting for!!! Ive been playing these games since before i could read!!!!!!!! Yesssss
I think shes the first female to host this show
Rosanna Pansino host on this show a long time ago.
YAY!! They added Tama to their videos!!! 😄
This is a cool video on the e-reader and other great pokemon facts
I love the lore behind the Sevii Islands. Wish they had made it into HGSS or LGPE.
Omg fire red and leaf green in December for tama’s channel! Yay!
It's a simple explanation: one of doduo's toes turned into the third head.
If I remember right, up until the mid 1900s they used ao (blue) to describe both green and blue until midori was made to stand solely for green. This happens in a lot of languages where Western languages have words for more colors where some older and/or indigenous languages use one word for multiple colors in the spectrum, and the listener/reader has to use other context clues to find out which color it actually is. Good examples are the Kekchi people, a Mayan group in Guatemala, uses both "raš" meaning "blue" and "green" and the Mahri people of Yemen and Oman use both "heźáwr" to mean "blue" and "green"
The Altering Cave is interesting to me when I read it up in Serebii, and surprised it wasn't released in the US.
