How to Separate the Suckers of a Multitrunk Chamaerops Humilis Palm

- My Chamaerops Humilis Palm has eight suckers that are literally sucking the life out of it. After two years of feeling scared to confront the huge task of repotting and separating, I finally found the courage to separate the suckers of my multitrunk Chamaerops Humilis Palm.
Update: I had to re-edit this video and re-upload because I realized that an FM radio was playing in the background on some of the clips, which is copyright infringement.
Update 2: All the babies were goners. They didn´t survive. From my research I found out that suckers hardly survive once separated from their moms. Had I known this, I wouldn´t have sacrificed my stainless kitchen knife trying to get as much rootball as possible. But I don´t regret FREEING the mom from its suckers.

i love the enthusiasm. i find the best way for propogation is to put the entire plant in a big cintainer of water and move it around to get all the soil out so it can be easier to mess with
You are not alone in using kitchen items as tools for jobs they were not made to do. I use my regular knives as screw drivers and bent the ends all the times :)) You have inspired me to try cutting the baby off my windmill palm after watching you. Thanks so much for sharing your adventure , sad about your knife. I never met a tool I couldn't twist, bend, maim or break using them for the wrong jobs .

Thank you for showing me this! Crossing my fingers I can save my Pygmy Date Palm. I have no choice but to do something. If I don’t it’ll die. In fact, parts of it are most assuredly dead!

Hi, I had actually explained in the description what happened to the babies. None of them survived. I found out too late that babies actually rarely survive. It´s always better to start from seed.
They dont usually die, its because you cutted the babies away from the roots underneath
The small ones would have survived if you cutted all they down and got them with roots
They of course need roots to survive
But on a chamareops humilis there is no problem with seperate the smaller trunks, you just got to have the roots at the bottom following and not cut the trunk away the root system
I had a chamareops humilis with 5 trunks and and used a saw beetwen all of them throught the bottom of the root system and all of them are now on their own and living well alone and growing
They always survive if you cut throught the whole root system
I did it, works every time
But you cuttet the trunk and didnt add any roots thats way they died
My god she's well and truly butchering that palm 😮😢

No
Recommended to propagate using a suckered. With roots I'm guessing
Is there a update?
The mommy palm is doing very well. However, the suckers didn´t grow. From my research I learned that it can take up to 4 years for suckers to develop roots. Seeds will grow way quicker than suckers. But I`m still happy with how my mother palm looks after I removed the suckers.
