It’s so nice that Richard visited Earth just for a show
Lmao
xJoe90 I have to say when this vid started I was happily surprised to see RDJ in the flesh - so used to him being out of sight, like the Wizard of Oz 😉
TzadikTheManic is that what he’s like live? Just our of sight and can’t be seen at all??
@Phobophobia typically that’s been the case, yes. he’s always been one of the most private of artists, and it even extends to his shows
@@TzadikTheManic kind of lame... It's cool at the same time because it's like God; where we can't see the face of him, but I wanna see him in the flesh if I'm paying big cash to listen to him and stuff... one of the big 4 of electronic

how do i save this comment lol
I need to see him live before I die. I have an extreme case of social anxiety but fuck it, I m ready to share the floor with so many people just to experience this insanity myself
Born4DrinkingBeer same man, I'm planning the same thing too
Its ok guys, just try to focus on the music and disengage from everyone around. It will be all fine and hope you see him someday
I was at this gig and have really bad social anxiety, I won’t lie it was intense but honestly what a fucking night
I also have social anxiety. But when you're there, nobody is focusing on you. Just absorb the music and feel free, for you deserve to share space just like anyone else.
i am on the right spot to talk here.. agree with you guys, i also have to see him soon.. seems to be the right space to be free without any fear
In the ancient times, the early tribes danced around the random moving lights of fire with hypnotical rythmic patterns.
Nothing changed, just evolved in tech.
Take me back to this early tribes please
literally
I have thought about this for years man. How since we had fire for 500,000 years, how far does music go back? Is it an integral part of being human at this point. In our dna, genes passed down. Rhythmic threads through dna. We all get music, it's instinctual.
Reminder to listen to aphex twin next to a campfire next time I go camping.
as mans intellect and technology evolves, so do the games he plays
I flew all the way from Los Angeles to this.
Best decision I ever made.
im yealous...
coachella time baby
😂😂 mad respect!
Side show was better
You chose well
The ending is an absolute mindfuck. Imagine being as geeked out as one of those concert goers and witnessing that shit
Honestly, actually being there was beyond insane. Never seen anything like it in my entire life.
@@lynchmaleideal I saw him live at coachella weekend 2 in 2019, he did a similar gabber-speedcore-splittercore-extratone-nuclear bomb ending and i agree with you. It was like nothing i’ve experienced before, all sound and light ceases to have any meaning and there’s no such thing as silence or darkness and you’re just enveloped in the insanity!
He did something similar in Mexico in 2019 and I was at the front, I lost my shit when that happened
Saw him perform in Melbourne and he did a similar thing. The finale was an absolute total sonic destruction perfect way to end the set. It’s like he knows exactly what I like and I pretty much love his entire back catalogue.

I would actually recommend this whole mix to anybody if they haven't listened to an Aphex Twin DJ set before. This is a pretty damn good one.

I remember this day very good. This was the best festival line-ups in one day ever. Flying Lotus, Nicolas Jaar, Jon Hopkins, King Gizzard, The Oh Sees, Run The Jewels and this. I actually missed Aphex Twin gig, because my friend wanted to go see Run The Jewels and we didn’t want to separate. Later that evening terrorist attack happened at London Bridge and it was so surreal. Crazy day!
Its a brilliant line up alright. Similar to Forbidden Fruits weekend line-up in 2017: Aphex twin, Nicolas Jarr, Flying Lotus, Orbital, Moderat, Bookashade, Motor City Drum to name a few. One of the best weekends of music ever for me.
Death Grips were there too! Their set was batshit insane
@@roboroborangutan oh really! didn’t know them back then. Absolutely mad line-up
jesus what a line up, gutted i missed this, would of been great bands for both me and the wife

That closing track was an absolute mortal destroying machine. what a fucking trip it was
Yes man, that a big trip! Love this!
That JUNGLE set at 1:47:00 was absolutely insane!

That end was the fucking hardest i've ever heard him play.
goddamn, you're not kidding... sheesh!
I'm 25 and I've known Aphex Twin since I was about 10. I found him after playing Wipeout Fusion on PS2.. since then my life has changed. Love the community, love the music. 👌✌️
Did you know that the guy who designed wipeout logos is the same who designed Windowlicker record cover? The Designer Republic
my first AFX record was Digeridoo in 1992 when I was 16 :D
It's crazy man, I think the majority of my music taste is from ps1dark sounding synth and amen breaks haha
dat game was rad as fuck, I loved playing it on the arcade
Richard playing solitaire during the insane outro..
People there had one of the best concerts of their life.
19/08/2023 HERE WE FUCKIN GO, SEE YOU ALL THERE!!!!
This is the kind of art that pushes humanity forward. It's like the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey--overwhelming in scope.

"Oh look, NTS are recording and live streaming the whole show on UA-cam with a multi camera setup. Best stand and film the whole show on my iPhone so I can delete it when my storage is full and not re-watch it."
Hahah lmao "firework videos"
I recorded it and it is my treasured video
@@xJoe90 A short clip, fine. A significant amount, that's just dull. You're in the room, that's the only time you're ever gonna get to experience the real thing without looking at a screen. I guess I have a bee in my bonnet because some douche was holding an iPhone right above my head in an already confined space.
〈easy〉coding I recorded about 10 minutes overall the whole 2 hours and didn’t look at my phone as I filmed, still had the best day of my life and felt like I had witnessed God
@@xJoe90 When the unreleased SAWII era track came on it hit me right in the feels. I was squinting to try and make out if he was there and then the lights got brighter and I could make out his messianic hair. In the same room as the man himself. Saying that, I got a better glimpse of him when Nina Kraviz was on, he was stood behind her getting ready :)
Jesus, this is really something. It might be one of the best live performances I've seen recorded.
Better than that one Death Grips live recording with the word CRACK flashed on screen every couple of mins? lmao

he opened a portal at the end there.
I'm convinced he was controlling the weather at his Texas show.
Being there and the temps going from 85f to 45f was something only a god could do.
are you serious?? haha sounds beautiful
Hector Peinado I was there too, the timing of that weather shift was a conspiracy. It was amazing. Life-changing.
If anything ever tops that weather change / rain at the texas show ... fuck. I will never, ever forget that. Most surreal shit I've ever experienced.
Sacred geometry and Aphex Twin. Absolutely tremendous.
Reading the flower of life book while listening to aphex meshes real well.
i noticed that today. i think it's very important to show these kinds of things to the public eye

All the words that appear are the passwords entered by all the people who tried to enter the nts site. Awesome!
Kick What makes you think that? I’m asking because I found it very cool that within the alpha-numeric madness there seemed to be, over and over a tip of the hat to the origins of house/acid: “mr. fingers” is the legendary producer Larry Heard from Chicago who changed the whole scene in the 1980s, “jack” and “jacks house” is from the ubiquitous Jack had a Groove” which has been used especially acapella mixed w endless records in thousands of dj sets for decades (“This is our house and our house music...I am the creator” “..and Jack had a Groove..”) -that’s just a couple excerpts.. Anyway I think it was an homage of sorts to the “creation” of one of the most influential styles/genres that has inspired RDJ and soo many others. He was producing his own music not that long afterwards..
@Kick Hey still curious, you haven’t replied......did you read that someplace about “passwords”? Bc I haven’t found anything but agree that would be cool. Otherwise it was more likely a nod to the music as I already stated
@@TzadikTheManic i guess hes playing too cool and wont answer
@Peachy Bumm Perhaps it’s because I’m using my phone but I checked the link and once there I couldn’t navigate/click on anything
@Billy Synk Ha, I dunnoooo.
I remember watching this, from somewhere in the middle of the crowd. I was actually sober but the energy was just spot on. So many great moments, and to emerge afterwards from the aircraft hangar into London, when on that day, I believe a bomb had gone off was taking place was quite the slap around the chops. My brother (also an aphex phan) had already gone to his hotel room with his then girlfriend, but rang and delivered the sad news to me, urging me to be careful like a loving younger sibling would do. Walked my way through busy London, Police everywhere. All the coaches (and the one I was catching back to Sheffield) were on lockdown all night, so slept at the station amongst others. A worker of Victoria station woke me up and I felt lucky, not just to have seen a hero of mine live, but to have made it out alive.
0:
i was there, same vibe, came out being told there was a terrorist attack, London bridge(?), thinking anywhere (maybe here?) could be next, while trying to rush out of field day to get a cab across London and try not to make everyone around you panic, all while not exactly sober (not much alcohol, but certainly not fit to operate heavy machinery if you know what I mean) was all a little bit tricky :)
I once heard a rumor that Richard once sold a boat to a guy in Cornwall
but when the guy put it on his trailer and took it home it transformed
into a massive stack of hardware, computers and rig overnight and
automatically promoted an event online from where it was landed and
started blasting out Richard's entire back catalogue of unreleased
material. Like, as if he had built the seed of a rave in the form of a
boat and randomly planted it in some poor guy's garage or driveway or
whatever. And when the police tried to shut down the Automatic Aphex
Rave they couldn't because it had already remotely immobilised all of
the police cars in the county and jammed all their signals and shit. I'm
actually from Cornwall and I know a guy who swears on his nan's life
that he was there so it's pretty likely that it's true.
that's beautiful
blackops blackops
i heard the music from that thing all the way over in devon
I must say that my intuition tells me that this is likely untrue, however much I'd like to believe it.
That sounds like one of the many myths Richard started about himself in order to have this mystique and protect his identity. There's a really interesting mini-doco on here called the Cult of Aphex Twin that goes into all the publicity stunts and ways he enjoyed deliberately confusing and trolling journalists and mainstream media in general
Holy fuck, the sound quality is amazing! I saw Aphex at the Dour festival in 2009. I barely remember it, it was such an overload. This footage allows me to relive that dream/nightmare. Richard, you are a genius.
Simon Griffiths there was a horn at some point, people were trying to swing a flag up front. I try to find that bit of music since since. Good times
Im shocked to see how someone can get away playing Noisecore and not have the whole crowd walk out of the building.
Only Richard 😅
I revisit this set every couple of months. It is pure art, absolutely enthralling. Thank you Richard.
he is the LEGEND! A man who can bring you to the darkest of the darkest and to the brightest of the brightest.
his crowds really warm my heart. everyone is there, enjoying the music and having fun. it isn't just some homogeneous group either, its actually diverse, race, gender, and age wise. I guess good music will do that
Aphex twin is for the people.
That's the power of Aphex Twin. The kind of extremely niche music artist that for some reason anyone can enjoy.

THIS WAS FUCKING AMAZING WHAT AN ENDING! THANK YOU RICHARD! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!
Thanks Jess!
best night of my life
Hands down, it turned my brain into butter
me too
I still feel a bit unsettled trying to take it in. I was there but I feel I was not. My brain says no but body yes.
that's sad AF.
nearly as sad as being a twat to random people over the internet
this is one of the most impressive visual presentations ive ever seen
This shouldnt exist yet
wow....best comment ever on ANY thread
nice
YOU WIN. Been listening to AT since... and THAT'S the best description of him EVER.
@@plunderpunk2 Lmao
His choice to integrate the video of the audience is absolute brilliance. He designed his own computers in the 80s just to get the sounds he wanted. He is definitely another species or perhaps, an alien and I feel so blessed to have his music in my life for almost 30 years
1:29:14 One Life, One Chance by Roberto Senni. What a magical moment.
In Germany, the local rave festival organizers try really hard not to film the wasted ones for their movies. Here they even did it on purpose, that's so damn funny :D
Some awesome muntfaces in there - gifts for the VJ guys :D
TheIcebomber 1:30:47 This dude is on fckn Mars homie!!
Das stimmt ...
@@Aphexm1ke thank you!!
Right as I read that 31:42 happened lmfaooo
Aphex Twin : Your graphic artists are amazing!
amen
Hell yeah
He calls himself weirdcore
Its a trip
its the same guy who did t69 collapse amazing clip
My typical day - Wake up to this Aphex Twin set, fall asleep to my Norm Macdonald playlist.
Good god how am I just discovering this
That dude's music was so ahead of his time.
was ?
Gotta be one of the best electronic shows put on of all time
@ 1:57:15 you can clearly see Aphex Twin had a problem with his machines, he was probably trying to fix a bug which played all the tracks he made during his career
I can clearly hear Rhubarb and Stone in focus, nice
Link please
azuk ahahahahahah
asmr portal
HarumashimaLT Two of my favorites.
Some dance. Some think. Some move. Some stand. Love the scenery... total different with other djings...
fuck me this never stops being good. Untouchable
This has to be one of the best live sets and accompanying visuals to date. And I've seen a lot. It takes me to my warm and sometimes warped happy place. 😁🌫️♥️🔀🌬️🍃✨
The ending was fucking brill. So intense, like communicating with extra terrestrial life forms
I was there when the Speed/Noisecore started at @1:54:42. It was the loudest fucking noise on Earth. Awesome set.
Fucking hell you can't even see him it's that flashy haahah
It was absolute sensory overload. In a weird way, it felt religious. Aphex Twin was God and we were his disciples.
it was a bug from his machines that played all the stuff he has made i think
at that point in the set i got told about the terrorist attack that happened the same day and i thought for a split second it was happening in the tent
track id?
I think I've watched the last 15 minutes or so over a dozen times. What an annihilation!
yeah, I only ever watch the last 15 mins :)
Even when the Earth is an ashen landscape devoid of life... Aphex Twin will be ahead of its time.
Absolutely amazing. I used to panic buy records 87-93. Aphex Twin Analogue Bubblebath Vol.1 on Mighty Force Records. What a buy. Such a great artist from day 1. Waaaay ahead of the pack
LMFAO SOMEONE EATING AN APPLE AT 1:01:20
apples not pills kids
You need your nutrients to properly experience that show.
TECHNO APPLE
when you accidentally eat the weed apple
Are you looking for some MIDIs?
Super surprised more people aren't asking what this first track is fading in at 3:36. Its obviously an Aphex track I feel like I have heard a millions times before and could possible be my favourite sounding anything ever. If anyone has some information on this please do tell!!!!
Man no kidding. Its just a perfect song, incredible opener to the concert.
@@ZeRoUnload yeah man, even watching it on UA-cam I get the chills, cant imagine if I was there in person.
Sounds a bit like Ptolemy off the first Selected Ambient Works
You've got so many machines, Richard.
this finale was CRAZY !! this is BEAUTIFUL !!!!
Gonna tell my kids this was Aphex Twin Live at Field Day 2017 (alt. audio)
Never been to an Aphex show. Praying he tours the states in the future so I can go. This set was legendary
People look scared and shaken. Welcome into the Aphex Twin Portal of madness and sheer brilliance.
Nothing can describe it for me other than the feeling of sublime. Majesty in deaths form. The first bass line crack of a world ending volcano. The sub wobble of a nuclear warhead impact. Lol
An amazing end to an amazing festival. Absolutely mind blowing.
It's so interesting watching how these filters/illustrations have a great effect on the audience. I was just vibing with the guy who got excited on 55:46 (was shaking my head with him too)
I love it, the crowd aren't sure whether to dance or shit themselves.
This was the best time I've ever had, doubt anything would come close, except maybe another AT show
Meshuggah in 2019 was better. Still loved this, 2nd best.
This is the best video on UA-cam for sure.
Oh my Mother Nature! Thank you so much Aphex Twin & NTS. I would have paid $30 just have been able to watch this live and now your streaming it. Bless up! Big Thanks. Massive vibes
I wish I was there I appreciate he mixed The Advent. Brilliant
OutFffingStanding!!!
I was there that night and witnessed the whole thing live, but I was way in the back because the place was packed. I keep returning to this set because it ages very well. From all three shows I saw him perform (London, Berlin and Manchester, in that order) this set absolutely kills it. Manchester is a close second though. I am bit bummed I didn’t get to bump into the girl synchronizing with the glitch effects at 47:30 though. I was rocking a mask as well, and I totally dig her vibes
dude this is one of my favorite videos now
I was at this festival, and I remember that I couldn't get into the huge silo-like tent to see this set of Aphex live because it was so full.
At the beginning there are so many people getting excited to dance!
Some say they are still there waiting!
I had a ticket to Field Day and missed it (that's right, I'm a grade-A idiot). It was my greatest shame for months to come. I couldn't even bring myself to watch/listen to this set, the pain was too much.
But it's all okay now because I finally got to see the 'Phex at Club to Club the weekend before last. More than made up for it.
1:24:09 ok, that timing was amazing
I swear near the end, on the big displays, there's a brief flash of Anthony Fantano screaming.
timestamp?
bluelichen dont bring that trash in here
FLASHTONY LIGHTANO
i need evidence.
@@laaaarwood how about you
"EVI" these nuts in your mouth!!!
Sorry... That was uncalled for..
1:40:58 onwards is the best part of the entire set
One of the greatest experiences of my life! My mind was probed in so many ways!
I might have to go to Coachella 2019 just to see Aphex Twin.
Jonah T easily my favorite set all weekend. blew my mind right after Four Tet’s fantastic set...
hope you did
So, did you end up going?
