I like that FATE in ARR where the sandworms try to overrun the little town. Any time they interact with the environment in some way they're more interesting.
That was one of the first fates I had a lot of fun with. Caught it while I was exploring the desert way earlier than I should have and just barely squeaked out a victory

When I was a little baby sprout still doing ARR MSQ I stumbled onto "The Eyes have it." Had no idea what a boss FATE was, but it was a cool big new enemy and the music had a cool sting on its opening so I my baby warrior self gave it a real shot. Tried, slowly died, failed. Tried again! Failed. Told my FC what I was up to but the FATE timer was too low for them to come help and succeed, so I learned what the deal was and went about my day. Came back to it a week later with a group happy to help me clear a silly personal goal and kicked the cyclops over. Still remember it fondly as one small element of learning what the game had to offer and how much was open to me, so it's the FATE that came to mind when thinking about what my favourite is.
My first experience trying to finish that Fate me and a random group waited for more people to show when a random BLU popped over and vibrated it to death.. That was great... :)
YoshiP actually addressed the DPS checks in DT raids in one of the interviews: apparently, they were a bit harder initially. But then all jobs were buffed a little to keep up with pictomancers. And the devs decided to not adjust DPS checks accordingly out of fear that a party of pugs may end up not being able to clear at all, or that the last minute adjustment will bring critical bugs.
The Dataqi Chronicles on the Azim Steppe is my favorite FATE chain because I’m a Xaela fan and love the Steppe. My favorite individual fate is “It’s Not Lupus” for the House MD reference.
This is my favorite FATE chain too and I managed to do it for the first time during the Yokai event. I loved chilling by the campfire with the NPCs in between fates, and riding across the Azim Steppe together on horseback on our way to the next one. It was a great time
My favorite FATE is 100% The Magitek Is Back. The sole Chase FATE in the entire game, but the whole idea of a FATE that moves along the entire map just has such an intense and epic feel. One moment you're doing some Blue Mage leveling in The Peaks, and you see a giant robot spider walking off in the distance and it freaks you the hell out. Sincerely one of my favorite memories in this game, along with fighting it with someone else another day and feeling so satisfied with taking it down.
There's a similar one in Ra'Tika which is my favorite; a giant monster that you chase across the map as it gets angrier and fierier and you try not to lose your NPC helpers.
I would have, but it also pissed me off this week. It has a boss FATE in that chain where the boss is actually fighting an NPC, and it will just fail and end WAY before the end of the actual timer if you don't know it's killing an NPC. There's no outward indication of it being as urgent as it actually is until you either arrive there or it just abruptly ends. It's not marked as a defense FATE, and it should be. I was with a group farming Il Mheg and we made the mistake of just quickly doing 1 other FATE (very quickly, I was on a Blue Mage and we were really nuking them) on the way to it after it spawned, and even that was enough time for the NPC to die.
This is going to be so stupid, but my favorite fate is a low level one in Western La Noscea called "(I Just) Died in Six Arms Tonight". I remember, back when I was a wee sprout having just started the game, being tickled to death at all the silly fate names and took screen snips of my favorite ones. I would sing this one aloud every time I saw it up. The ones with the silly names will always be my favorite, regardless of how they actually play, because of the little bits of joy those puns/references brought me.
My favorite FATE event in the game is the Godzilla boss fight in Rak'tika Greatwood where the HP bar just continues through 4 different fates and all the Viera hunters help you defeat it.

This is a bit of a cop out answer, but years back (probably about 2016), The Rising event had you go into an intanced version of Ul'dah in what was meant to be the events of the Calamity. You'd be in there with about 15-25 other people, and it wasn't an alliance raid or anything but FATEs spawned inside the instance in a specific order, culminating in a boss one. This one alsi spawned multiple Chimera who would Dragon Eye and paralyse half the raid, leading to a lot of players dying (if you died, you could respawn at the start & just run back). Anyway, I was leveling DRK at the same time and was tanking the last boss. He did something that ended up killing literally everyone but me, and with no healers my HP was running down. If I died his HP would just reset fate boss style, and there was a timer on the instance... we weren't gonna get another shot at it. I popped Living Dead, died, went into Walking Dead, and watched the counter go down. I knew everyone was running back, but would they get here in time? 3 ... 2 ... 1 *Benediction* I look over and see a WHM, with the cavalry hot on their tail. No Fate has ever got my blood pumping quite the same.
I suppose my favorite fate is the undead gentlemen one you gotta do for the Mandeville quest line what they say with the gentleman pose is pretty funny
I think my favorite FATE event is the Attack On Highbridge chain in Eastern Thanalan. I did that one back during the last Yo-kai Watch event with an absolute mob of people and I was like, "wow, this is how this FATE should work."
My favourite fate is Tender Buttons in Western La Noscea where you fight the giant dodo, because if you read the flavour text it says "Gluttonous Gertrude was just another plump dodo on the farm...until she bit the arse off one of the stable boys at Swiftperch and escaped into Quarterstone. Seek out the ravenous bird and slay her before another rump goes missing." You are literally saving their asses.
I do like all the superboss FATES, but besides those, I like the one that starts the Hildibrand questline. I love the battle theme in it, and it's a nice goofy little time with flexing zombies.
I think my favorite fate is "A Horse Outside" aka Ixion. The fact you have to get an item and use it on the guy to even get the fate started is so unique and it always stuck out in my mind. Second favorite would be the Outjaw one in Dawntrail
I like the FATE super boss in Ultima Thule. I like that there is just this silly square at the edge of the universe where you fight this cool robot. I also like the chain on Rak'tika that consist on you helping a group of hunters fight this huge lizard, chasing it all across the forest.

Speaking of FATE. I wish they bring something like Odin back and put one in every expansions. A world boss that altered the world when they are spawn. It was such MMO feeling that I feel missing.
I noticed the spawn detail attention! It's really really nice! I hope whichever designer came up with these ideas gets the recognition and praise they deserve!
So glad I spammed my way through all the shared FATEs for DT when everyone was doing them, but I didn't do the EW/ShB ones, so me and 3-4 people from my FC decided to do one zone every weekend in older zones. They're fun :). I can't say there's a FATE that has stood out to me as a favorite .. /hmmm...
That's what I have been doing too. I kept Picto until late, and when I was done with DT Fates I started grinding EW ones with Picto instead. That way I was working up the EW levels and grinding for the Turali Gemstone Vouchers at the same time.
My favorite is Alaimbert because it's actually a fate chain. You fight him and win, but another fate spawns where you have to fight hropkens or something and he runs back in to help you fight them. Love that guy. I always love the ones where npcs come out to help you. It makes the world feel more lived in.
My favorite FATE(s) are the ones in the South Shroud, the paired sets of FATE chains Breaching/Clearing the Hive, and then Defending/Keeping the Hive. One set of FATEs is about clearing out a base (The Hive) of enemy bandits so the Wood Wailers can take it over, and the other set is defending the base so those bandits don't reclaim it. As far as I'm aware, its the only FATE in the game where your success or failure actually determines whether the area will be a friendly NPC area or a hostile enemy area- they even have a merchant who sells an exclusive minion. I'd love it if more FATEs worked like this- that neglecting the FATEs lead to a zone overrun with monsters and enemies, and clearing them out makes it friendlier with some services/perks available only when the zone has been made safe.
"Lancer" - lvl 90 xD My favourite fate was the one in Peaks, with a big armored weapon machine walking through the map to the certain point and your mission is to stop it and destroyed. Cool one!
I like the Ahm Areng long chain fate that involved two random dudes stumbling upon an ancient relic and you having to save them from themselves. It's nothing special really but made me really immersed into the zone and actually enjoy doing FATEs. Somehow.
Joking question, but I actually know what the deal is with Star Sapphires: They're one of the most common trash drops from the most profitable FC Submarine route while leveling your Sub. Folks like me who are trying to generate gil for our FC pals just get dozens/hundreds of Star Sapphires and Star Rubies every week.
I don't think these give any achivements, but I found a FATE chain in the Shroud while doing Yo-kai Watch that had you raiding this bandit hideout, with each FATE taking you further in until you fight the leader. I really enjoy that it feels like a very small-scale dungeon.
my fave fate atm......... out of the ones i've done and actually remember............. is probably the turtle dragon boss in dravania. it hits really damn hard and if you don't have a bunch of ppl taking turns stunning it, then it's just an absolute slaughter lol
I started playing this game during the mass WoW exodus, so far I’ve gotten around 1500 hours in the game. All I’ve really done has been the MSQ, and leveling alt jobs using the roulettes. This series makes me realize how much content I skipped over throughout my play time. Even with my shiny new Burger King crown, I can’t even do the roulette because I’ve yet to unlock all the raids and dungeons
the north thanalan achievement chain is my favorite simply because i have very vivid memories of being a sprout lvl 51 white mage trying to solo the chain because nobody else would do it with me, and i reaaaalllyyy wanted to know what happened after the first one. i had to get good and learn how to stop dying
Its spiritually painful to burn 100k Gil at the scrap shop in illdy to get a few leves done but that 300k free trial cap means I can spare no expense in using my resources at least semi productively
7:36 I also misjudge the time things take. Favorite FATE? I've only done ARR and HW FATEs so far. I like the Odin FATE, Steel Reign. I also kind of like The Coeurl King in the South Shroud. It's weird in that it gives no special rewards despite capping off a FATE chain. But there's a Delivery Moogle sidequest that ties in with it. It ends on a bitter note, so I wish there was a follow-up quest of some sort. You can buy star sapphires and star rubies from a jewelry shop on Ul'dah. The convenience tax wins again.
For the comment question, I really like the one in the Azim steppe. Its a part of the dataqi chronicles chain and it tasks you with collecting milk, and the next step to it comes by around 25m later
my favorite fates are probably the ones in lakeland, specifically the nightshade chain and the couple with wargs in them. theres a lot of interesting worldbuilding about the old elf kingdom and the shadowkeeper turning them into werewolves, its such a shame the game never goed that deep into it in msq
My favorite Fate is The Magitek Is Back in The Peaks. It's kinda fun to try and kill the Magitek weapon before it arrives at it's destination. The best Fate chain though is the Mischief Managed one in Il Mheg. A lot of classic fights in that one and I love seeing how the fae folk "play."
One of my favorite FATEs is "Sphenopalatine Ganglioneuralgia" in Coerthas Western. That's the scientific name for Brain Freeze, and the flavor text is something along the lines of "these snowy idiots are giving me a headache"
Shared FATE was so fun the week of DT release because there were SWARMS of people doing them. Especially in Shaaloani when the Snek Waiting Rooms were happening. I wasn't a fan of the Shrek script readings, but overall that was a really fun time seeing so many people waiting around. As for my favorite FATE, I don't know if I have one. I like the Behemoth one from Coerthas because so few people look out for it now. It's like, old rare-er content that happens so infrequently (and isn't on the map at first), that it was fun to catch the few times it popped.
Nostalgia talking, but The Eyes Have It in Coerthas Central Highlands is my favorite. Incredibly fond memories of FATE parties in ARR, and the scores upon scores of dead adventurers that would result from every pull. It was a great way to get the “Kindness of Strangers” achievements back in the day!
For that note about Rubicante EX, pretty sure even back on release, it reached the point where people were going in there with one tank and healer with 6 DPS, he was genuinely always easy
go, go gorgimera is close to my heart because back when i first started playing in heavensward, i was grinding fates in northern thanalan as a brd for *days* to hit 50 and that one was the one i remember most.
I like the achievement FATE chain where you follow the big lizard goober around the east part of Rak'Tika as it gets increasing angrier and turns into a glowing red Godzilla
The long chain in azim steppe was fun, even though you had to wait a few minutes between fates. It told a fun story and had a pretty rate achievement behind it
As much as I hate mannequins and dress-up animals, the Mica Boss fate in Living Memory. It fun. Runner-up would have to be the fate "The Eyes Have It" in Coerthas in ARR. So many fond memories of struggling xd
My biggest complaint about fates is your chocobo keeping you in combat in some because it chases down a mob running away to despawn. As for favorite fate would be the chain in northern Thanalan in that abandoned town. I remember people constantly leaving after completing a step then coming back because the next started. I upset quite a few on the last one because I was on Blu and wasn’t sure if the instant yeet spells would work on it. Sure enough it did so 13 people lost out on it and the achievement.
One fate I wish we saw more of is the one "The Magitek Is Back" in The Peaks. It is the one and only "Chase FATE" and I kinda wish there were more like it
The Dark Devices fate in Northern Thanalan. I spent a lot of time FATE grinding the last few levels there in ARR and it was always exciting when that FATE chain spawned.
Odin is a classic, i just love the atmosphere when he spawns, and back when i was a lil sprout and didn’t know what was going on. Went to watch it a few times when i wasn’t yet at level 50 just cause i thought it was so cool and spooky.
My favorite fates are a series of three in the Fringes, where you face off against the Grand Companies for a training exercise: first enlisted men, then the NCOs, then the officers.
10:40 my favourite fate is the shb greatwood 4 parter fates. the one where u fight this big boss and he just..runs off xD. and you just follow him to the next location and wait for him to finish his tantrum so you can do the next fate. he technically powers up each time but its nothing noticeable damage or difficulty wise. but at least he starts glowing. i loved having a fate train just slowly following the boss run away to the next location, very amusing and fun times. currently i havent finished all shared cates so my fav could change. ive done all of dawntrails and half of the shb and half of ew. ive also done the previous expansions too from yokai completion and relics so i feel like im on the home stretch of seeing each zones fates. i dont have hw achievement fates done cause no one ever really shows up lol but i at least know which one it is
I just got caught back up on my Mentor Roulette requirements over the weekend, so I've been jumping into that again. No EXs yet, but I did get a DRK in a level 90 dungeon who didn't have TBN because they decided not to do their job quests until after they finished the MSQ.

I remember way back in the day(2014) when Odin was not for the faint of heart. Now, it's the one in the Tempest, and surprisingly murder rodent in Living Memory.
i haven't done Odin FATE in awhile, but it's still my favourite! when i first started playing in 2018, my friends and i did a LOT of palace of the dead, and we saw a LOT of Odin spawns as a result of being in Gridania. it felt really exciting to me as a sprout 🌱
The few times my static's had to look for a fill for a night, I've gone FATE'ing XD So they joke that I have a bit of an addiction to doing them. I've sat down and figured out the minimum requirements for Gold on every FATE in the game, as well as the XP drop for doing FATEs underleveled. And have been doing this since Heavensward. :3 But my fave would have to be the chains in both Churning Mists and Il Mheg. The story behind them adds a lot to the lore of the zones.
Favorite Fate in FFXIV either has to be the Mandragora Boss fate outside of Morbay Drydocks, or the on in Peaks with the fancy chocobo armor as a drop (its the Ala Mhigan barding if anyone's wondering)
I think I forgot to comment last week. Which is fine, because I didn't do anything this week, so I can report my paltry progress from last week instead! Lalachievements score: 17,115 Not a lot to say. I picked up Reforged: Majestic Manderville War Scythe from Poetics, and happened to get Mama Said Knock You Out IV while doing Frontlines roulette to level VPR and my PvP Malmstone Series rank. I've been spending a lot more time working on random wiki projects than really playing the game.
Just to share, a silly thing happened one day while I was grinding fates. While I was leveling black mage I kept running into the same pictomancer and I would place leylines on top of their starry canvas. Eventually they started doing the same if they showed up to a fate after me. And finally, we started to do the same thing to a ninja with doton. Silly little things ya know?
I really like the fate chain in the South Shroud! the one that you end up storming the Redbelly hide out. It unlocks a shop when you complete the chain and you can get this stupid lookin raptor hatchling minion that I love buying a ton of and give away to sprouts. :)
Theres a giant turtle boss fate I think in dravania. For my birthday, when I was a sprout still, my friends took me there and we spent like 30 minutes trying to kill that thing. It was a fun time and when ever I go to dravania I always go check to see if that fate is up or not :3
slacking on fates is such a mood. I swore I'd do six in each zone the first time I got to it. I honored that in ew (not in shb cos I somehow completely missed the whole shared fate thing - or didn't miss it but immediately forgot it lol), but I just can't make myself do it now in dt for some reason.
Hmmm... well i JUST got into stormblood but my fave Fate events so far have been the chains in Thandalin where they start with one fate and then when you finish it the next in the chain spawns and leads to a boss Fate. The Cult Fate chain and the Kidnapping ones are my faves so far

There's a FATE in the Azim Steppe which is part of the Dataqi Chronicles line where you need to milk sheep. Very sedate, no enemies, just interact with sheep in a small enclosure and turn in milk... then occasionally a Forlorn Maiden shows up because it was "attracted by the scent of blood". What blood are you detecting, my dude?
My favorite fates are any fates that I can use blue mage to hydro pull, rams voice, then ultra-vibe a HUGE group of mobs and then see that fate bar instantly jump to 50% or higher. Big dopamine straight to my frontal lobe
I actually went through all of shadowbringers and most of Endwalker before I even realised there shared fates even existed so by the time I started dawntrail I actually had to start doing all the fates from the expansions to start levelling the shared fates. Yeah, stupid me.
Since you already called out the Spiked Butt fate, I'm going to say Fallen Corpses Writhe In Style, if only because it's the first step along one hell of a journey.
I actually need to grind out more dates, might do some DPS jobs in fates to get them up to LVL 90. I been using the bi colour gems for crafting items as I LVL my crafters
Probably not my favorite one, but the first one the comes to mind is "Sphenopalatine Ganglioneuralgia" because that's where I learned the scientific term for "Brain Freeze" and somehow that term has lodged itself firmly in my brain meat ever since.
My personal favorite is, for some reason, Royal Rumble in the East Shroud. I will *always* fight the Prince of Pestilence if he’s up whenever I’m visiting. No idea why!

I think my favorite FATE event is the Attack On Highbridge chain in Eastern Thanalan. I did that one back during the last Yo-kai Watch event with an absolute mob of people and I was like, "wow, this is how this FATE should work."
My favourite fate is Tender Buttons in Western La Noscea where you fight the giant dodo, because if you read the flavour text it says "Gluttonous Gertrude was just another plump dodo on the farm...until she bit the arse off one of the stable boys at Swiftperch and escaped into Quarterstone. Seek out the ravenous bird and slay her before another rump goes missing." You are literally saving their asses.
I do like all the superboss FATES, but besides those, I like the one that starts the Hildibrand questline. I love the battle theme in it, and it's a nice goofy little time with flexing zombies.
I think my favorite fate is "A Horse Outside" aka Ixion. The fact you have to get an item and use it on the guy to even get the fate started is so unique and it always stuck out in my mind. Second favorite would be the Outjaw one in Dawntrail
I like the FATE super boss in Ultima Thule. I like that there is just this silly square at the edge of the universe where you fight this cool robot.
I also like the chain on Rak'tika that consist on you helping a group of hunters fight this huge lizard, chasing it all across the forest.
i know that chain. goes through like, three other fates too where you help them out with other things, leading INTO the Deviljho lookalike.
my favorite fate is either the immense amount of sandworms killing underleveled sprouts, or the ones in kholusia where they reference the "knife goes in, guts come out" from the simpsons
Speaking of FATE. I wish they bring something like Odin back and put one in every expansions.
A world boss that altered the world when they are spawn. It was such MMO feeling that I feel missing.

So glad I spammed my way through all the shared FATEs for DT when everyone was doing them, but I didn't do the EW/ShB ones, so me and 3-4 people from my FC decided to do one zone every weekend in older zones. They're fun :). I can't say there's a FATE that has stood out to me as a favorite .. /hmmm...
That's what I have been doing too. I kept Picto until late, and when I was done with DT Fates I started grinding EW ones with Picto instead. That way I was working up the EW levels and grinding for the Turali Gemstone Vouchers at the same time.
My favorite is Alaimbert because it's actually a fate chain. You fight him and win, but another fate spawns where you have to fight hropkens or something and he runs back in to help you fight them. Love that guy. I always love the ones where npcs come out to help you. It makes the world feel more lived in.
My favorite FATE(s) are the ones in the South Shroud, the paired sets of FATE chains Breaching/Clearing the Hive, and then Defending/Keeping the Hive. One set of FATEs is about clearing out a base (The Hive) of enemy bandits so the Wood Wailers can take it over, and the other set is defending the base so those bandits don't reclaim it. As far as I'm aware, its the only FATE in the game where your success or failure actually determines whether the area will be a friendly NPC area or a hostile enemy area- they even have a merchant who sells an exclusive minion. I'd love it if more FATEs worked like this- that neglecting the FATEs lead to a zone overrun with monsters and enemies, and clearing them out makes it friendlier with some services/perks available only when the zone has been made safe.

My favourite fate was the one in Peaks, with a big armored weapon machine walking through the map to the certain point and your mission is to stop it and destroyed. Cool one!
I like the Ahm Areng long chain fate that involved two random dudes stumbling upon an ancient relic and you having to save them from themselves. It's nothing special really but made me really immersed into the zone and actually enjoy doing FATEs. Somehow.
There is a new fate chain where you retrieve and defend a shipment of coffee. ☕️
Joking question, but I actually know what the deal is with Star Sapphires: They're one of the most common trash drops from the most profitable FC Submarine route while leveling your Sub.
Folks like me who are trying to generate gil for our FC pals just get dozens/hundreds of Star Sapphires and Star Rubies every week.
I don't think these give any achivements, but I found a FATE chain in the Shroud while doing Yo-kai Watch that had you raiding this bandit hideout, with each FATE taking you further in until you fight the leader. I really enjoy that it feels like a very small-scale dungeon.
It may not give an achievement, but it does give you access to a merchant selling the a very lovable goober, the baby raptor minion.
my fave fate atm......... out of the ones i've done and actually remember............. is probably the turtle dragon boss in dravania. it hits really damn hard and if you don't have a bunch of ppl taking turns stunning it, then it's just an absolute slaughter lol
that big aoe is just proximity damage, it doesn’t hurt much if you run out, but it is more convenient to just keep it stunned lol
I started playing this game during the mass WoW exodus, so far I’ve gotten around 1500 hours in the game. All I’ve really done has been the MSQ, and leveling alt jobs using the roulettes. This series makes me realize how much content I skipped over throughout my play time. Even with my shiny new Burger King crown, I can’t even do the roulette because I’ve yet to unlock all the raids and dungeons
the north thanalan achievement chain is my favorite simply because i have very vivid memories of being a sprout lvl 51 white mage trying to solo the chain because nobody else would do it with me, and i reaaaalllyyy wanted to know what happened after the first one. i had to get good and learn how to stop dying
The Magitek Is Back is my favorite FATE, it's so unique and I remember being in awe when I first saw it
Its spiritually painful to burn 100k Gil at the scrap shop in illdy to get a few leves done but that 300k free trial cap means I can spare no expense in using my resources at least semi productively

Favorite FATE? I've only done ARR and HW FATEs so far. I like the Odin FATE, Steel Reign. I also kind of like The Coeurl King in the South Shroud. It's weird in that it gives no special rewards despite capping off a FATE chain. But there's a Delivery Moogle sidequest that ties in with it. It ends on a bitter note, so I wish there was a follow-up quest of some sort.
You can buy star sapphires and star rubies from a jewelry shop on Ul'dah. The convenience tax wins again.
For the comment question, I really like the one in the Azim steppe. Its a part of the dataqi chronicles chain and it tasks you with collecting milk, and the next step to it comes by around 25m later
my favorite fates are probably the ones in lakeland, specifically the nightshade chain and the couple with wargs in them. theres a lot of interesting worldbuilding about the old elf kingdom and the shadowkeeper turning them into werewolves, its such a shame the game never goed that deep into it in msq
My favorite Fate is The Magitek Is Back in The Peaks. It's kinda fun to try and kill the Magitek weapon before it arrives at it's destination.
The best Fate chain though is the Mischief Managed one in Il Mheg. A lot of classic fights in that one and I love seeing how the fae folk "play."
Oh man, I really wish that fates pre-shadowbringers were better exp. Levelling is a drag before bozja, 70+ fates and pixies.
One of my favorite FATEs is "Sphenopalatine Ganglioneuralgia" in Coerthas Western. That's the scientific name for Brain Freeze, and the flavor text is something along the lines of "these snowy idiots are giving me a headache"
Dawntrail fixing up Fates to be good leveling for even non-DPS jobs is an amazing change
Shared FATE was so fun the week of DT release because there were SWARMS of people doing them. Especially in Shaaloani when the Snek Waiting Rooms were happening. I wasn't a fan of the Shrek script readings, but overall that was a really fun time seeing so many people waiting around.
As for my favorite FATE, I don't know if I have one. I like the Behemoth one from Coerthas because so few people look out for it now. It's like, old rare-er content that happens so infrequently (and isn't on the map at first), that it was fun to catch the few times it popped.

Nostalgia talking, but The Eyes Have It in Coerthas Central Highlands is my favorite. Incredibly fond memories of FATE parties in ARR, and the scores upon scores of dead adventurers that would result from every pull.
It was a great way to get the “Kindness of Strangers” achievements back in the day!
For that note about Rubicante EX, pretty sure even back on release, it reached the point where people were going in there with one tank and healer with 6 DPS, he was genuinely always easy
go, go gorgimera is close to my heart because back when i first started playing in heavensward, i was grinding fates in northern thanalan as a brd for *days* to hit 50 and that one was the one i remember most.
I like the achievement FATE chain where you follow the big lizard goober around the east part of Rak'Tika as it gets increasing angrier and turns into a glowing red Godzilla

The long chain in azim steppe was fun, even though you had to wait a few minutes between fates. It told a fun story and had a pretty rate achievement behind it
As much as I hate mannequins and dress-up animals, the Mica Boss fate in Living Memory. It fun.
Runner-up would have to be the fate "The Eyes Have It" in Coerthas in ARR. So many fond memories of struggling xd

My biggest complaint about fates is your chocobo keeping you in combat in some because it chases down a mob running away to despawn. As for favorite fate would be the chain in northern Thanalan in that abandoned town. I remember people constantly leaving after completing a step then coming back because the next started. I upset quite a few on the last one because I was on Blu and wasn’t sure if the instant yeet spells would work on it. Sure enough it did so 13 people lost out on it and the achievement.
One fate I wish we saw more of is the one "The Magitek Is Back" in The Peaks. It is the one and only "Chase FATE" and I kinda wish there were more like it
The Dark Devices fate in Northern Thanalan. I spent a lot of time FATE grinding the last few levels there in ARR and it was always exciting when that FATE chain spawned.
Odin is a classic, i just love the atmosphere when he spawns, and back when i was a lil sprout and didn’t know what was going on. Went to watch it a few times when i wasn’t yet at level 50 just cause i thought it was so cool and spooky.
My favorite fates are a series of three in the Fringes, where you face off against the Grand Companies for a training exercise: first enlisted men, then the NCOs, then the officers.
I like the treasure hunters in Amh Areng, and the Goblin super weapon in the zone next to Idyllshire
10:40 my favourite fate is the shb greatwood 4 parter fates. the one where u fight this big boss and he just..runs off xD. and you just follow him to the next location and wait for him to finish his tantrum so you can do the next fate. he technically powers up each time but its nothing noticeable damage or difficulty wise. but at least he starts glowing. i loved having a fate train just slowly following the boss run away to the next location, very amusing and fun times.
currently i havent finished all shared cates so my fav could change. ive done all of dawntrails and half of the shb and half of ew. ive also done the previous expansions too from yokai completion and relics so i feel like im on the home stretch of seeing each zones fates. i dont have hw achievement fates done cause no one ever really shows up lol but i at least know which one it is
I just got caught back up on my Mentor Roulette requirements over the weekend, so I've been jumping into that again. No EXs yet, but I did get a DRK in a level 90 dungeon who didn't have TBN because they decided not to do their job quests until after they finished the MSQ.
Ah, yes. The "Dark Devices" FATE chain in Northern Thanalan. Yeah, I wouldn't say the FATE itself is really a favourite of mine, but I do have many a memory of grinding that FATE chain back in A Realm Reborn. Initially when you get level locked out of the MSQ in the mid to high 40's. Then, when leveling alt jobs. Northern Thanalan was really alive back then.
As for a favourite? Eeeeehhh... There's so many to choose from that have great names... I'll go with "Sphenopalatine Ganglioneuralgia" from Coerthas Western Highlands. It's definitely a fun way to say "Ice cream Headache". 🙂
I remember way back in the day(2014) when Odin was not for the faint of heart. Now, it's the one in the Tempest, and surprisingly murder rodent in Living Memory.

i haven't done Odin FATE in awhile, but it's still my favourite! when i first started playing in 2018, my friends and i did a LOT of palace of the dead, and we saw a LOT of Odin spawns as a result of being in Gridania. it felt really exciting to me as a sprout 🌱

The few times my static's had to look for a fill for a night, I've gone FATE'ing XD So they joke that I have a bit of an addiction to doing them.
I've sat down and figured out the minimum requirements for Gold on every FATE in the game, as well as the XP drop for doing FATEs underleveled. And have been doing this since Heavensward. :3
But my fave would have to be the chains in both Churning Mists and Il Mheg. The story behind them adds a lot to the lore of the zones.
The Odin FATE. Its always fun to see new players in shout freaking out about the weather.

Favorite Fate in FFXIV either has to be the Mandragora Boss fate outside of Morbay Drydocks, or the on in Peaks with the fancy chocobo armor as a drop (its the Ala Mhigan barding if anyone's wondering)

I picked up Reforged: Majestic Manderville War Scythe from Poetics, and happened to get Mama Said Knock You Out IV while doing Frontlines roulette to level VPR and my PvP Malmstone Series rank. I've been spending a lot more time working on random wiki projects than really playing the game.
The Outjaw is techically a primal, the grandmothers all believe in it, it came into being.
Just to share, a silly thing happened one day while I was grinding fates. While I was leveling black mage I kept running into the same pictomancer and I would place leylines on top of their starry canvas. Eventually they started doing the same if they showed up to a fate after me. And finally, we started to do the same thing to a ninja with doton.
Silly little things ya know?
I love the chain of fates in ARR about the Lambs of Dalamud. I like to force new players to play it before going to the banquet if possible.
I really like the fate chain in the South Shroud! the one that you end up storming the Redbelly hide out. It unlocks a shop when you complete the chain and you can get this stupid lookin raptor hatchling minion that I love buying a ton of and give away to sprouts. :)
Theres a giant turtle boss fate I think in dravania. For my birthday, when I was a sprout still, my friends took me there and we spent like 30 minutes trying to kill that thing. It was a fun time and when ever I go to dravania I always go check to see if that fate is up or not :3
Odin. The fight is so chaotic and the Tension weather condition is so goddam cool.
Favorite fate is the giant mammoth and summoner in Zadnor. Love fighting those two, quick, easy, plenty of health to actually press some buttons.
slacking on fates is such a mood. I swore I'd do six in each zone the first time I got to it. I honored that in ew (not in shb cos I somehow completely missed the whole shared fate thing - or didn't miss it but immediately forgot it lol), but I just can't make myself do it now in dt for some reason.
Honestly I'm a sucker for any FATE chain where there's a story.

well i JUST got into stormblood but my fave Fate events so far have been the chains in Thandalin where they start with one fate and then when you finish it the next in the chain spawns and leads to a boss Fate.
The Cult Fate chain and the Kidnapping ones are my faves so far
My favourite fate chain I've done so far is the achievement fates in Il Mheg. I always like fate chains in general, and I kinda wish that there were more fate chains (I know why there aren't).
There's a FATE in the Azim Steppe which is part of the Dataqi Chronicles line where you need to milk sheep. Very sedate, no enemies, just interact with sheep in a small enclosure and turn in milk... then occasionally a Forlorn Maiden shows up because it was "attracted by the scent of blood". What blood are you detecting, my dude?
My favorite fates are any fates that I can use blue mage to hydro pull, rams voice, then ultra-vibe a HUGE group of mobs and then see that fate bar instantly jump to 50% or higher. Big dopamine straight to my frontal lobe
Favorite fate is "Pray Destroy the Waking Sands" It's a pretty bog standard FATE in Ahm Araeng but the name is just perfect.
I actually went through all of shadowbringers and most of Endwalker before I even realised there shared fates even existed so by the time I started dawntrail I actually had to start doing all the fates from the expansions to start levelling the shared fates. Yeah, stupid me.
I don’t remember the chain names, but the one in Yanxia with the angry namazu is probably my favorite so far.

Since you already called out the Spiked Butt fate, I'm going to say Fallen Corpses Writhe In Style, if only because it's the first step along one hell of a journey.
I actually need to grind out more dates, might do some DPS jobs in fates to get them up to LVL 90. I been using the bi colour gems for crafting items as I LVL my crafters
